QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 24, 2005 -> 01:42 AM) Looks like much ado about nothing. In the game thread it seemed like it was the Wrestlemania XXIXIXIXX. That's what I got out of it, greasy, but with all of the things I've been hearing out of Carlos today, you'd think that he'd killed someone. Geez -- I certainly never any of this when Carlos was here...

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 24, 2005 -> 01:07 AM) Haha, hell yes. The day I'm supposed to go back to school, forget that. I have things higher on my priotity list. Same here. My Spring Break starts Friday, and we go back on that April 4th. Luckily my mom already said I can skip that day, so it's pretty sweet.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 11:54 PM) Becuase of one or 2 good moves KW has done, we should all bow down to all the f*** up this guy has made over the past 4 years.. Man Wake up.. This is the first year he actually done something for this team in regards to a "shake-up". Which should have happeend after 2002 when we fail to win the Division.. Back then I was calling for his head, to be fired, he got Colon and Koch.. But giving up the best closer in the AL..in Foulke. One would wonder why the A's would just so easyly give up such a "great" Closer in Koch and a propect(sp), for a non-closer.. HMMM.. The man is over his head, has no idea what or how to do things... Another case and point.. We get Iguchi for what we ask, yet overpay on Hernandez.. who hasn't pitched 200+ in in over 2/3 years.. and oo BTW is a fly ball pticher in Coors lite.. While the likes of Clement and Lowe were still out there, and are grounball pitchers something needed at the Cell. IIRC, Jeremy is far from one of Kenny's biggest supporters -- he's as objective as it gets when it comes to judging Kenny -- he sees the bad, the good -- just wanted to throw out what I'm seeing/saw.

I'll be there... And Brian -- I see you reading this thread. I got the cornhole. This time, two of 'em (hopefully).

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) I dont think, looking at our lineup, the way it is now, that we needed to keep him. He was a decent fielder, a good hitter, not a great runner. I really really like Carlos as a player from the moment that he started with the sox, but judging by what we got for him, I think we came out on top. Dont you agree?? Player for player, no -- I didn't feel comfortable with the trade. Do you? Lee for Podsednik and Vizcaino. Seems pretty lopsided to me. Now, what we did the money is a different story. But, if half of the trade is, in part, that, "Well, look what we did with the money" -- why wasn't it done with a different player? I know a lot of people like Konerko for his clubhouse 'leadership', saying he's the face of the franchise -- but, I just feel that his contract would have been a better contract to unload than Lee's. Then, we still could have signed Duque and AJ and Iguchi, just, we'd have Lee + the players gained in the Konerko trade -- as he wouldn't have been traded to Milwaukee, I think they're pretty set at 1B. But that's just a lot of what if's up there, so I'm not gonna harp on it. I'll hope, along with every other Sox fan, that Podsednik produces at his 2003 rate.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) I think we traded him because we didnt need him, and alot more came from the trade than we initially thought. I wouldn't say that we "didn't need" our best overall player from last year...

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 10:36 PM) Now Carlos Lee wants to get tough, where was he when Tori Hunter was plowing down our players. Thats why he's playing in milwuakee. Oh, come on now. What was he supposed to do? Yeah, he had a chance to make a hard slide into second base, and he didn't do so. But, you're blaming him for not having any retaliation? I put that on the shoulders of the pitcher, who, in that case, was Mike Jackson. Boy, since when did Carlos Lee become the bad guy? I'll personally root for him to beat the s*** out of our neighbors to the north, but to each his own, I guess...
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 10:33 PM) Now what do you think about my comment about Lee's attitude? It's a Spring Training game! He hit a homer in his previous at-bat. If anything, doesn't that show that he's a fiery guy? I thought that's what Ozzie liked. Nothing really happened. Marte and Lee exchanged some "friendly" words, the benches cleared, but they weren't really close to fighting. Sorry if I got some people excited, I didn't really elaborate at first...

Marte hits Lee with a fastball, and the benches clear.

And the benches clear!

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 10:24 PM) I wonder if age isn't almost always overrated -- at least up until players really start to decline, mid 30s or maybe a touch earlier. The idea seems to be that if someone has played extremely well and not been called, there must be SOMETHING wrong with him. It's not as if there're hidden volumes on these players. I'm just not so quick to discount the possibility of a bad organization, or other reasons -- maybe a vicious cycle of being too old leading to leaving the guy in the minors, making him yet another year older. I don't know -- anyone seen something that looks at this? I've been thinking about it since all the 'Rogo is too old' stuff at the start of st. I'm sort of thinking the same thing with Ozuna. Why hasn't a guy with an .800 OPS gotten more than 111 AB's in the majors? I mean, he certainly hasn't performed well in those 111 AB's, but that's really not enough AB's to make a good judgement on the guy. Attitude problems, perhaps?

Jason, what happened to the rest of the FutureSox Top 25 list? Or, when are they coming out?

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 10:02 PM) Ozuna Minor League Totals .317 AVG .357 OBP .443 SLG 800 OPS Harris Minor Leauge Totals .290 AVG .369 OBP .415 SLG 784 OPS Did I stutter? I don't recall saying anything bad about Ozuna... Like I said, I'm certainly interested in him, as to why he hasn't gotten more than 111 major league AB's. His walk rate is a little low, but he seems that he can rake a little bit. And, I didn't know that one could stutter online... EDIT: I think the worst thing I've said about Ozuna is that just because he's had an awesome ST, doesn't mean he's going to do this in the regular season, but I'm sure everyone is smart enough to not expect him to hit .300 up here. But, I don't recall saying something like, "he's a bum", and then putting Harris on an almighty pedastal.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) Iguchi has really been a suprise. I thought it would take him a long time to adjust, even though he is still doing it, but he has really impressed me with his work so far this spring. At first he said he would go to right field all the time to work on his timing like he did in ST in Japan. Now you can see him jerking the ball to left and punching it to center and right. I am really excited about what he can do for us. He's hitting .300 in his first camp in his first extended stay in America. I have no problem with Iguchi starting. If his Japanese numbers of the past two numbers can tell us anything, he seems to have some good pop, can handle the bat well, and a pretty good eye. He's certainly one of about five 'interesting' players added this year...

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 09:51 PM) "I'm glad that there's a solid correlation between ST numbers and regular season numbers..." So you didn't read the rest of the post. "goof".

QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) Carlos grounds into a double play. That should help Fabio Castro's confidence. Nice pitch. In answer to the question, Castro is a Sox farmhand ... played Single A last year. Lefthanded reliever, very young. Jim, did you see him pitch? If so, you're thoughts on him...? Lots of people like him to break out this season.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) I mainly don't like his attitude but I could still see Carlos being a DH if he signs with an A.L. team. There's also a reason Dye is a right fielder and Lee is a left fielder. And there's a reason the Brewers moved LF'er Jenkins to RF to accomodate Lee. Keep in mind that Jenkins is not a good fielder either. You don't like his attitude. I'm glad you're in the clubhouse, Aidan...

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) JMHO, but I think it would fit the team best if Harris went down in a week and a half. If not sooner. Give the ABs to Iguchi in ST. Hey, I'm all for Iguchi too. I'm just looking at the 'what if' part of the equation -- what if Iguchi doesn't work out? Personally, I think Ozuna/Harris might make one hell of a platoon, if it were to come to that (hopefully it won't). Don't know how well Ozuna has performed vs. lefties in the minors, but it has to be better than what Harris has done in the majors...
-
QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) Really??? So Brandon McCarthy owning in spring training also doesn't mean anything at all. NOTHING AT ALL. No, I'm not saying ST numbers mean nothing at all. But with McCarthy, he has something besides that to back it up. He's dominated just about every level he's been at. And I suppose Ozuna's been solid at points too, I'm interested to see how he does this year, actually. But, for a guy like Kevin Walker -- who's been bad at AAA and bad in the majors, I don't know how it can warrant making the big league club because of ten good IP...

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) It was sarcasm. I wish we still had Lee's offensive ability but I definately won't miss his defense or lackadaisical attitude. I continue to laugh at you thinking Willie is a good hitter. Hey, I'm looking at the whole picture. I want Podsednik to prove he can hit and get on-base. He's done it one year.
-
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 09:40 PM) Dude, we know. Get off it. You've been barking up this tree for weeks now. Personally, I'd much rather have a guy fighting for a roster spot put up excellent numbers versus putting up poor numbers and justifying by saying, "There is no correlation between Spring Training numbers and regular season numbers." But, to each his own I suppose. Hey, I'm just trying to match your 'trade Harris' posts... But seriously, it would probably best fit the team to have Harris go down when Thomas comes back -- if Ozzie isn't comfortable with Harris at short.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) If you needed Spring Training numbers to provide solid correlation that Willie can't consistently hit, you must be blind. Harris had a higher OBP than our Opening Day leadoff hitter did last year, and had much better minor league numbers. Oh, and I just read your comments about Carlos Lee. Thanks for making me fall off my chair in laughter. EDIT: And Jim, I agreed with your post about Harris/Crede in the other thread. Harris needed to have a strong spring, and he hasn't, simply put.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) Ozuna, a 30 year old career minor leaguer, is outplaying Willie's sorry ass. That's pretty sad. Add in the fact that Ozuna can play more positions than Willie, Willie should not make our roster. By the way, is there any online feed of this game? I'm glad that there's a solid correlation between ST numbers and regular season numbers...

QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) No Hawk today? Who's doing the announcing?

Shouldn't the fourth pick be someone who will have an immediate impact? I wouldn't mind the Bears grabbing Benson, but if they do, they should probably just look to dump Thomas Jones. While running back by committee is sounds nice and all, in reality, players are so competitive that they want the bulk of the carries (the majority of times). I'd assume there'd be some market for Jones, but Lovie loves depth, so they'd probably keep both. I'd still go with Derrick Johnson, but I can't see myself being mad if they grab Benson/Williams. The only pick I'd be mad at is if they grabbed a QB...
