QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 27, 2005 -> 06:29 AM) Maybe, maybe not. If Chandler's offense can improve, I don't see why Curry's defense can't improve. Is there any way we can just fuse Eddy and Tyson into one all-around great player? Garland at least pitched in the minors. Eddy only played in high school. It would be a fair comparison had Eddy played in college. OK, good, at least you're accepting that. I was starting to only one side of the double-edged sword there -- in that, I was seeing people say that Chandler couldn't improve offensively, but Curry could improve defensively -- and vice versa. As a basketball player myself, defensive is pretty much about 'want', and heart, unless you have the unfortunate task of guarding a guy that really, really outsizes you -- and offense is something that needs to be groomed, worked on, over the offseason. If Chandler can improve even the slightest offensively, maybe just develop a little bit of a low-post game, I'd say his value is much higher than Curry's. But at this point, he's just a hard-worker who wants it more than the average player. I don't follow the Bulls as much as most of you -- will it, in the future, really be a situation where the Bulls will not be able to keep some of this current core? I love how Gordon and Deng and Hinrich and Curry and Chandler and the rest of them are doing, but won't they be getting awfully pricy (if they keep this up) in the next 4-5 years?

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 27, 2005 -> 05:39 AM) You mentioned steals first, not his overall defense. I agree that his defense leave ALOT to be desired but that can improve with time. He is still young and he probably didn't even have to play defense in high school. I'm sorry, just saw the rest of the thread now -- but, Eddie's old enough to know that you must box out when a shot goes up, and he does an absolutely horrendous job of boxing out. Sooner or later, we'll have to realize that Eddie is what he is, a (potential) offensive beast who does everything else below average to average...

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 27, 2005 -> 04:26 AM) Would you be mad at Curry if he choked away our season by attacking a fan and getting suspended for the entire season? I know I would be. What Artest did wasn't right, but the fans who were throwing s*** at him (almost -- not quite, I can never see myself hitting someone unless I was really, really provoked) got what they deserved. Again -- not trying to sound like an absolute jagoff, but these guys were throwing cups and beer intentionally at him. But I won't try to defend what Artest did, because it was absolutely wrong. But Detroit's got some messed up fans -- the whole brawl incident, and now bomb threats?
-
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 27, 2005 -> 04:26 AM) Yes, you are wrong. To say Artest being a nut case is the reason we lost this game is f***ing ignorant. You're blaming that entire thing that happened in Detroit on Artest? That's definitely a little off. As I said in another thread earlier, Artest is obviously not the reason for any of this to happen. There were bomb threats last night against the Pacers in Detroit. Suspending Jax, Artest, and JO obviously did nothing to fix the problem. Detroit's obviously still got a problem. It's wrong on Stern's part for Detroit to get off scotch free. I'd like to see you justify what the Pistons and the fans in Detroit have done. Live by the line, and I die by the line -- De-Troit Sucks!

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 27, 2005 -> 04:20 AM) :headshake Real ignorant. Ugh -- fans telling other fans who to be mad at. That's pretty pathetic...

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 26, 2005 -> 07:48 PM) Who cares if Ozuna is 30? Iguchi is 30 and he's our starter. I'd rather have an older, established hitter off the bench than have to depend on a young turd like Willie. Young turd? Alrighty then, I'm glad we're having some great baseball discussion. I brought up his age because people were talking like he's a big-time prospect or something who needs to be playing every day, not be on the bench. He's 30 -- he's no longer a prospect, so it best serves our organization if he's on the bench... Oh, and I wanted to bring this up somewhere. Harris had over 100 more walks in less than 1000+ AB's than Ozuna in the minors... Just, FWIW.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 26, 2005 -> 09:16 AM) Okay, I'm going to say this one last time -- if Sheehan has really watched Buehrle pitch, would he be saying that Mark is nothing more than a middle-of-the-rotation pitcher? You have seen Buehrle pitch and you seem to know that Buehrle is an ace or at least an extremely strong #2 so why doesn't Sheehan see this? Just because his name is Joe Sheehan and he writes for "Baseball Prospectus" doesn't make his opinion any more valid than your's or mine. In fact, our opinions hold much more value than his because I guarantee you, Sheehan isn't watching 162 White Sox games every season. It was a dumb comment. I'm refuting that. I'm just saying, just because he works for BP and he's (most likely) pro-sabermetrics, doesn't mean all he does is look at stats and never watches the games.

Ozuna is 30. We're not talking about a prospect who's 22 years of age. He belongs on the bench, and if he proves he can do more than just be a bench player, Ozzie will find room to play him -- just like last year with Uribe.

Michigan State is Elite Eight-bound!

QUOTE(SoxDaFox005 @ Mar 26, 2005 -> 02:23 AM) Hey just wanted to let you guys and girls know, that there is a trade in the works! It should be completed (if agreed upon) by opening day. Details and source? This is sort of, out of the blue...

If MSU hits their free throws, it's game over. They're up 4 with under 50 seconds to go...

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 26, 2005 -> 01:58 AM) Let me be clear -- I'm not pro-Sheehan on this. But I think it's an understandable position. There aren't many aces who rack up fewer strike outs than Mark, at least before last season. I think Mark looks good enough to be a #1. But if someone really believes (from stats or experience) that a frontline starter needs to be a high-k pitcher, then they may still be uncomfortable w/ Buehrle as a #1. And, DIPS isn't really that high on Buehrle -- though they haven't been for the past three years, and (I could be wrong) doesn't BP really like DIPS as far as judging pitchers?

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) yeah i think in Oaklands case you can blame the GM over the manger.... its pretty clear from moneyball that Beane runs the show. Well, we can 'blame' Billy Beane all we want, all he cares is that he got a damn good closer out of the deal, as well as a couple of compensation picks later for allowing Foule to leave...

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 26, 2005 -> 12:16 AM) Do you think I really care to get a response back from this guy? He's a hack and has probably never even seen Buehrle pitch. He probably sits around and makes player assessments with a calculator. :rolly What, because he's pro-sabermetrics? I love the stereotypes of people who are pro-sabermetric -- that they don't watch the games and just look at stats, and plug in numbers. I agree that he's totally wrong on his assessment of Buehrle, but that doesn't mean he's a freak who sits around and plugs numbers into a calculator...

Over at WSI, a guy posted one of his articles from 2001, and, in describing the Mariners -- he called Ichiro a "glorified Triple-A hitter"... I found that a little funny.
-
Hmm... If the Mets traded Scott Kazmir just to aquire Victor Zambrano, think they'd give us Philip Humber for Davis and Diaz? (It's funny because I'm actually half serious -- well, no I'm not, but Minaya might be crazy enough to do it.)

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 25, 2005 -> 10:46 PM) If you really want to get an answer back, or at least get listend to, calling a guy a toolbox is not the way to do it. As well as saying "get your nose out of Bill James' ass". It seems every offseason move that doesn't have the Sox being picked one gets ripped, but that should be expected. Overall, though, I must say I'm dissappointed in his assessment. Saying we'll finish third is one thing, but things like "Mark Buehrle is a middle-of-the-rotation guy" and other dumb s*** is pretty stupid...

QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Mar 25, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) over harris presumably No, I think Harris will be on the team until Thomas returns...

QUOTE(chisox05 @ Mar 25, 2005 -> 03:12 AM) My point is that almost everyone(including myself) think they are going to acquire a Wide Reciever with the first pick. That would give them 6 wide recievers and none of them are going to get cut or anything. I dont think there are any teams come the beginning of the regular season with 6 wide recievers which is why its interesting. They aren't taking a WR with the first pick. Maybe if they trade down, but not at four. Benson seems to be the consensus around here. And, I'd put the knowledge of guys like Addison and Badger as well as various others up against a lot of the 'experts'. You won't hear me complainin' if they take Benson, but I'd rather it be Johnson at four...

Punk isn't the word I'd use to describe Carlos. He seems more like a kid in a big man's body. I mean, I remember hearing stories about during pitching changes, how he'd do some crowd looking for some ladies. And, I thought it was histerical the time the game was delayed because he was takin' a piss. It also led to some bad things -- like when he'd stare down his homers, but oh well -- that led to one bad time out of the 500 or so AB's he had. Carlos will be missed...

Rex, I'll post my All-Star sliders in the next couple days. For pitching, the only thing I can suggest is to change your speeds time to time. I've found it very helpful -- to do that, instead of letting the meter go all the way to the green, let it go a little early. Don't do it for a fastball, but it generally works with your offspeed stuff. Other than that, all I can really say is on All-Star, you have to pitch accurately, and with hitting, you gotta take some pitches.

LOL. I walked into the room, and there Brian is, laying on the bed. My brothes says, "It's probably better if you don't wake him up..."

LOL Cheat, love the line about Gio Gonzalez' weakness...

QUOTE(Tadahito Iguchi @ Mar 24, 2005 -> 02:00 AM) Why does it say he hit a homer off of Josh Fields? There are two Josh Fields'. One is a relief pitcher, one is our first round pick of last year at third base.
