  1. Just got back from the game: It was f***ing awesome. The crowd was great, loud when it needed to be, really into the game, too. Buehrle looked great. I was really impressed with how he took care of Martinez/Hafner. I'll be honest, everytime those two are up, they scare the s*** out of me. But, while in the stands, I was talking to my brother, and we both agreed -- other than the top four, they really don't scare me. Peralta looks like he could be something good, but Boone, Hernandez Broussard, Blake -- meh, they're alright, but I'm not frightened. Crisp/Belliard/Hafner/Martinez are definitely a good top of the order, though -- or at least, I think they can be. What else. I should preface this by saying that if it looks like I'm overreacting, believe me, I'm not, just giving observations. Dye looked awesome at the plate today -- hit the ball hard, looked good. Same with Konerko. Iguchi looked absolutely lost at the plate in his first two AB's, probably jitters, he got a loud roar from the crowd. Podsednik looked bad, and I don't see him coming close to his 2003 numbers, but that's just a gut feeling -- I know that will probably piss people off that I'm saying that, but that's JMHO. Oh yeah -- with Iguchi, the nickname I was hearing in the stands were, "The Gooch", so just wanted throw that out there. Buehrle = Awesome. Shingo made Alex Cora look absolutely silly. He got ahead in the count, and threw the frisbee, Cora had no chance. One more thing, wanted to see other people's thoughts/opinions on this. One of the guys on Mac/Jerko/Harry (Jerko, IIRC) was b****ing out Ozzie for taking Mark out in the ninth inning. I know Mark probably wanted that CG shutout, but it was the right move. Buehrle was at 103 pitches, or right around there, and there's no need to send him out for the ninth. Ozzie, IMHO, made the right choice. Gave Shingo some early season confidence, and the place exploded when Shingo came in. People almost anticipate that last out in the bottom of the eighth, and start looking towards the bullpen. I'll say this -- Shingo has been one of Kenny's best acquisitions, and I'm glad that #10 will be closing games this season for the Good Guys... EDIT: One more thing. Great move by Ozzie to put Gload in as a defensive replacement. I'd also like to see him do the same to Iguchi with Harris, but I can understand him not doing that -- Iguchi didn't have a hit, and Ozzie probably didn't want to make him feel like he was lacking confidence in Gooch. I should say, though, when Iguchi ripped that ball down to third and Boone made the diving grab, it was a good AB...
  2. Anyone have a link? I thought I read it somewhere over the weekend, but wasn't sure where... I think that will be real good for David. Reunited with Brady, and placed with the best coach in the NFL.

  4. QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 04:58 AM) Did anybody else feel like they were getting punched in the stomach when seeing how many people were picking Jeremy Reed for ROY. Also, all these people picking the Twins to win the WS is stupid. Its not impossible but my guess is its just as another article on ESPN was saying- the Twins remind people of the Patriots. But just as someone else said, the logic of riding Santana doesn't really apply against Schilling or Johnson. All those writers are just going overboard on that "Patriots" team and chemistry stuff when using it to talk about the Twins. Reed's gonna be a good player, no doubt about it. He's gonna be a damn good leadoff hitter, if not, a very good number two. He'll probably be the best of the bunch we gave up, too (offensively, at least). But, we needed the pitcher -- and, considering we locked Freddy for about eight million a year (or is it nine? either way, he might have gotten 10-12 on the open market), I'm OK with it. Not really happy with it, but oh well -- hopefully Anderson and Sweeney and Young and Owens and Brice etc. etc. will help us to forget Reed..
  5. Less than an hour, and I'll be on my way to the Cell! f*** yeah! Cheer loud had home, folks -- they're gonna need all the juice they can get (and I'm not talking about cream and clear).
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 04:36 AM) a 10 day suspension is nothing..... its pretty pathetic on how small it is... If i had my way if you were caught once you would be out for the season if caught twice your days playing baseball are over... and if caught once while your still in the minors leagues your done no tolerance. The problem with that is that there's still a flaw in the testing (I thought I heard on BBTN), and that there are still the possibilities of false positives.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) All right we are out the door LETS GO SOX!!!! Leavin' for the park in about two hours. I could barely sleep last night, I'm so pumped.
  8. QUOTE(El Piervizdyeguchansodnik @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 03:50 AM) Let's stay up all night and speculate!!!!!!!!! Woohooo! PS: It's gonna suck if we lose. You remember last season? Mercy. Soxtalk and WSI both got f***ed up because people wanted to go online and type, "f***ING MARTE! f***ING KOCH!". :banghead
  9. QUOTE(Hall of Famer @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) Yes What year are you, and are you/were you on the basketball team?
  10. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) Just for reference sake, here are Soriano's stats for the past 3 seasons. He really seems to struggle with the strike zone. I realized he K'd a lot but I didn't know it was that bad. Right. I was thinking more along the lines of, one bad contract for another bad contract, except Soriano's (I think) is done at the end of this year, while Contreras' takes it into 2006. But, maybe Texas is hoping they can fix his problems... I don't know what Ozzie would like or hate more, the fact that he's fast and has a ton of power, or the fact that he strikes out a zillion times a year... EDIT: And anyways, there wouldn't be a place to put him, unless Podsednik struggles or Dye gets hurt. That way, we could put Soriano in center and move Rowand over to right/left. Bah, ok, it's not happening, so I'll just move on. :banghead
  11. We ought to have another thread, like we did last year, where you can't type anything, you just gotta describe how you're doing with smilies. It gave me a cheap laugh, last time we did it.
  12. Lots of people like Bonderman to break out this year. As far as him winning a Cy Young, though.... :banghead And the people that are putting Minny in the World Series are banking on a year-long, healthy Joe Mauer. Whether or not that's a smart thing to do....
  13. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 01:53 PM) Rangers almost dealt Soriano; Just a thought, but if Contreras is still struggling in June/July, I wonder if a Contreras for Soriano swap could work. They're desperate for pitching, and both sides would be (if it turns out that Contreras doesn't have his head on straight, this year) wanting to get rid of the players. Where to put Soriano would be another question, but Ozzie would make room for another speedster. Just a thought... 'Tis all.
  14. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) Looks like i'll be here in champaign on monday for obvious reasons. My tickets are going to my brother. Have fun guys, I guess i'll meet up with everyone again at another game down the line Looks like we'll have to save the cornhole festivities for another day...
  15. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 03:03 AM) I was there for a visit Friday. It was a really neat campus. I really liked it a lot, but that could be because it was the first college I've visited with interest for myself. (I have tagged along on a few trips with my sisters.) The people there seemed really cool and the sports teams are moving to the Big East next year so that is a positive. It is close to the Bradley Center and Miller Park and is pretty much right in downtown Milwaukee. Plus, I am Catholic so I would fit right in. I hope you have a good time when you're there. It's definitely high on my list, I'm gonna check it out real soon. I'm Catholic too -- just, I went to a public high school.

  18. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 06:21 AM) Too bad Everett can't play third eh? While we're at it, Contreras is kind of sucky -- think Carl can pitch?
  19. QUOTE(whitesoxfan56789 @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 04:14 AM) I got tickets today May I ask, how? Or, did you order them a couple days/weeks ago, and they just came in the mail today?
  20. Just for confirmation, the parking lots will be open at 11:30. At least, that's what it says in the article. I can't f***in' wait... Link
  21. QUOTE(Hall of Famer @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 02:47 AM) He is pissed at himself for how he played. Agreed though, he is much better off in a team-oriented offense than trying to show off his individual skills. HoF, do you go to Rice?
  22. Congrats to Illinois, going to the title game.
  23. Well... The Sox begin the season on Monday. I'm going up to Marquette to check out the university within a few months. I have my ACT next weekend (dunno if that's good or bad, I'm a little nervous, I'll tell ya that much). My AP test for American History is within the next couple weeks. Overall, I dunno if most of that is good, but I'm hoping for the best. Next Saturday is a big day for me.
  24. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 12:52 AM) That's a wide open catagory. Reynolds doesn't seem to grasp much. Good point. It's funny how a career .258 hitter can criticize so much...
