Twins Silva Out Until After ASG
CWSGuy406 replied to LowerCaseRepublican's topic in The Diamond Club
Jason, if you're reading this, have you seen the Twinkie prospect JD Durbin pitch? If so, what do you think of him? My brother thinks that Durbin, if given the chance, could actually come up and do better than Silva. His K/9 in the minors look impressive, but he's walked 3/9 IP and given up about 9 hits per 9 (per nine, per nine, per nine, bleh ), which tells me he might get hit harder up at the major league level. Anyone with knowledge about Durbin, care to share? -

QUOTE(gettysburg32 @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 01:27 AM) Garland 6 IP, 10 H (LOL!), 3 ER, 0 BB (compensates for the 10 H) (84 pitches) Marte 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER (27 pitches) Not the sterling performances of the last 3 and 3/4 games, but certainly getting the job done in the dome vs. the Twinkies. Jon's are fifth starter, and he kept us in the game against their number two starter (he started opening day, but in terms of best pitchers, Radke's the number two). I don't think many people, before this game, would think that we'd be in a position to win the game in the ninth (Radke vs. Garland doesn't look great on paper). A lot of those hits, too, were soft ones. Hell, did Lew Ford hit the ball out of the infield? Oh yeah, that spray hit to right, but there were a lot of soft hits. All things considered, I thought Jon pitched pretty well. I know the 6.00 ERA doesn't look great, but it could have been a lot worse. Anyone else think Pierz might get his first day off tomorrow? Tough lefty on the mound seems like the perfect time for Widge to get his first shot. -

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 01:22 AM) Ya know, thinking about the past few years and this year, I have to admit...and I'm not just saying this because we are winning...but the feeling of the Twins has changed to me. The past few years I've feared the Twins, especially in the Twinkie Dome...but this season, I'm not feeling that...AT ALL. I *really* like this team -- they can hit it long, and when they cannot hit it long, they can do the little things, like taking 2 bases (pods) on a error, steal some bases, put pressure on opposing defenses, etc. Am I alone in saying something just feels different about the Twins this year, as if their 'mystique' isn't quite the same?! Well, people were saying the same things last year at this time, too. That we were going to surprise everyone and win the division. I mean, I don't mean to piss on the parade, just sayin'... -

Ozzie, that's why you don't send Marte out for a second inning... I don't know what's so hard to understand, Marte and Politte are one inning pitchers. It's setting them up to fail... -

That a way, Marte! Good pitch on the inner half, there. -

Excellent. Come on Jon, one more strong inning, then we can pass it off to Politte/Marte/Cotts. -

I'm sorry, that's such bulls*** -- that third pitch to Uribe was clearly off the corner... f*** this ump. -

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 12:52 AM) That was a good sign for Joe. I hope that knocks some of the bad luck outta him. Heads, he looked good that AB. Fought off some tough pitches inside, layed off some tough changeups away, and when he got his pitch, he ripped it. Everyone's ripped the ball off of Radke this inning, except for Rowand -- and A-Row still got a hit. Crain coming in? -

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 12:44 AM) I know there's few people on this threat tonight, but am I the only one not impressed with the Twins at all this year? I don't even care if I jinx the Sox tonight, I'm not impressed with the guys they've called up to replace their old starters. Bartlett looks like someone who you can jam whenever you want. Losing Silva will be a massive loss for them. I don't really think you can judge a team on two-and-a-half games, but maybe that's just me. Come on Timo, clutch hit right here. -

Anyone know Garland's pitch count? Maybe I'm not the only one, but I don't have much confidence in Politte coming into a tie game, I'd stick with Garland. He's made about two-three bad pitches today, I'd let him go one more... -

Wow -- that pitch hasn't been a strike all day, yet now it's a strike against Konerko. I hate that -- inconsistent strike zones suck. Call it the same all day, I won't b****, but that can't be a strike for Radke, yet not for Garland. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 12:27 AM) Was I the only one who thought that was a routine flyball off Stewart's bat? Same here. Good to see Jon settle down. Folks, we knew the streak of great outings was going to end, and Jon is still having a pretty good outing, so long as he can give us another inning or two of shutout ball. Time for the offense to get us one more. Jon isn't throwing many straight fastballs today. I thought he could have got Stewart on a four-seamer to the outside corner. And, is it just me, or is this ump's strikezone awfully small today?
