  1. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 02:29 AM) I also doubt that Paulie is our emergency catcher. Ok, we're both making a big deal about something that really, really has a tiny chance of happening. I just think Pierz should have been pinch run for with Willie.
  2. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 02:25 AM) Besides the fact that Paulie's hips are bad, do you need any other reason for it being a very bad idea? Paulie hasn't played catcher since his early days with the Dodgers. It's an emergency situation -- real unlikely to happen. In a pinch, for an inning, I don't think it would be terrible, no. More than an inning? Now I'm worried -- we should just take one for the team and lose the game, at that point. Like I said, though, if Ozzie is that worried that he can't pinch run for a slow runner in a key situation because he's worried about only having one catcher left, Burke should be on the club with Timo/Harris down.
  3. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 02:19 AM) I hope you're kidding. They'd run on him, but all he has to do is catch the ball. He's done it before, I'd bet he'd be able to do it if it was a last option. I agree with jackie, though, it's a bad strategy to not pinch run for a guy because you fear that your backup might get injured. If that's gonna cripple you in a situation like we had tonight, then get Jamie Burke up here for Timo, and send Harris down when Frank gets back...
  4. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 02:17 AM) Can't beat playoff hockey, period. This sucks, would have been a great night. I've never been to one, but I'd have to imagine being at an OT playoff game is about the best it gets in all of sports. One goal decides it all, you're on the edge of your seat the whole time. It's gotta be amazing... f***ing bastards. Damn, I miss hockey...
  5. Same here, jackie. It gives a statistical basis to what I'm seeing with my eyes. I like that.
  6. Pierzynski's double was huge. But on a serious note -- no excuse for Harris not to be in the game at that point. A lot of us were calling for that right after AJ hit the double, and it almost cost us big time. Ozzie f***ed up there, JMHO...
  7. Great chat tonight, too. Lots of good laughs in there. Nice win! Bring the brooms tomorrow -- Orlando Hernandez vs. Scott Elarton.
  8. Thanks, guys. I appreciate it. (I'm trying to think of something witty to say, but it ain't comin...)
  9. QUOTE(MnSoxFan @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) Nice, a 6 inning 1 hitter with 0 walks and 10 Ks. Real nice. I don't know what I like more -- his high strikeout totals or the real low walk totals. Both are very, very impressive...
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 12:08 AM) Time for Rowand to get back on track right now. HIYO!
  11. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 11:59 PM) Understandable, but, when you have one guy that's perfect through three, and another one that's getting roughed up, I think you can toss that out the window. Hmmmmmm...wait a second, maybe I should ask Dusty Baker. Addy: So, Dusty, do you think the dark skin is hurting Contreras out there today? Dusty: Well, um...yeah, well...um, well, I think Lee is um...yeah, doing so well because he is fair skinned and more suited for cold weather. Yeah, the sun isn't out, so don't expect much from Ozuna/Everett/Dye/Uribe... Nice, Pablo!
  12. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 11:55 PM) Gottcha. Thanks. I think he was so effective in his last start because he located his fastball early and often. It's ALL about confidence with the Count. It's freezing there, too. Not trying to make excuses, but it sounds pretty miserable out there. Hawk says with the wind it's probably 30 or less...
  13. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 11:54 PM) I like Iguchi in road gray. Haven't been watching...has Contreras fallen in love with his forkball already? Nah -- but he hasn't been able to spot his fastball -- at all.
  14. Interesting -- the Sox as a team have drawn ten walks in just under 70 innings at the plate...
  15. I think it's illegal for Jose to have two good outings in a row.
  16. QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 07:09 PM) This sucks. My favorite time of the sports year, ruined by stupid, clueless, greedy f***tards. Bettman, Goodenow.....f*** off. Nothing better than playoff hockey...
  17. Awesome! Gio got some innings (albeit, just a few) with the Warthogs last year, correct? If he pitches fairly well in Kanny, how long do you guys think before he gets the promotion? Is there a possibility he takes the B-Mac route -- Kanny to Salem, then perhaps some innings at Birmy if all goes well?
  18. Has anyone tried going over 'Area 51' with that thing, or those area's in Arizona where they test things? Or have I just entered a new level of 'nerd' with that comment?
  19. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 10:21 PM) Who said I was playing on rookie??? I have it set up on MVP for Owner mode and when I actually play a game, I have it on All-Star with no sliders since Pro was getting ridiculous. I'm thinking about going to MVP for that too though since I still score 8 runs a game usually when I play on All-Star. Sorry, didn't know winning was so frowned upon around these parts. No one is frowning upon 'winning'. But it's unrealistic. You won 130 games one year, and went 26-0 in one month. That's terribly unrealistic, and you're kidding yourself if you think otherwise. Most of us like winning, just, competitive winning. This will sound nerd-ish, but having to work for your win -- a 3-2 game in extra innings, something like that. Ending up 89-73 and winning the WildCard by a game, sort of like that...
  20. Mortenson on ESPN just broke in, I guess he wrote a letter to all 32 NFL teams, letting them all know he took steroids. I guess he didn't test positive, but admitted it? Kiper has him as a 2nd rounder, FWIW...
  21. As far as the Hafner contract, he'll get 500K this year, $2.5 million in 2006, and $3.75 million in '07. There's a 250K buyout, and a $4.75 option for '08. Talk about a good contract. He probably won't be as good as last year, but he'll still be damn solid. That makes two lefty-1B/DH types who are gonna be real good in the AL Central in Morneau and Hafner...
  22. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) On average, how many times per game does a pitcher hit in the NL? I'd say four, but that just an estimated guess...
  23. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 09:21 PM) http://presspass.mlb.com/pp_viewer.asp?d=21796 Gene, does bselig-bselig work for that?
  24. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) Did I ever say that Wood was terrible? Please show me where I said that. The fact is that Wood is overrated. By the way, do you try to dissect each and every one of my posts and try to prove me wrong? Keep trying. Grudges are for losers. Dissecting each of your posts? No. I saw you harping on it in the other thread in "Around the Horn", and I was gonna comment on it in one of the two, just happened to be here. b**** b**** b****... :rolly Your comments just sounded like you think he's terrible. No, you never said he's terrible, but that just seemed to come off that way -- such as putting "stellar career numbers" in green. If I misunderstood you, say so, and I apologize. Why exactly would I have the grudge again? For what reason? Remember, you were the one who PM'ed me, not vice versa.
