  1. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) Yep, I saw that. He is a Flubs fan ya know. Yeah, but my dad coached/taught him. He went to St. Ignatious College Prep, IIRC. So I like to listen to him. That's a show I like, anyways. I don't always agree with them, but how they bicker cracks me up. Much better than ATH, IMHO...
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) You said it all right there. Frank WAS great. And he's still ten times the player of anyone on this team. When anyone on this team puts up anywhere near as good as Frank's OPS, let me know. In Frank's worst year, he still posted an .834 OPS. Other than Rowand (and Rowand hasn't done it for a span that Thomas has done it at), no one on our team touches that.
  3. He was essential to the 2000 Bears, but it was clear, post (multiple)-injuries, that he clearly wasn't the same as he used to be. Wow, it seems like just yesterday that I was talking about Brockemyer, Tucker, Kruetz, Villareal, and Big Cat, and how they performed so well. Just one of 'em left...
  4. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) keith, me and brian are coming down for the game tommorow. Excellent. Where you guys sitting at, and are you tailgating?
  5. Ugh -- Wilbon is making Frank out like the bad guy on ESPN on Pardon the Interruption... :headshake
  6. I'll be out there tomorrow. If I had funds to support making it out to both Half-Price Monday and Two-for-one Tuesday, I'd be there. It sucks when all of your funds come from poker winnings...
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 06:14 PM) Everett does not have half the arm Dye does and I would disagree with you about their range. Comparing Everett to Rowand is flat out ridiculous. I don't think anyone wants Everett playing CF for them anymore. I would assume he would be playing LF in either case. If Pods and Everett plays then Carl would play LF, Pods CF, and Rowand RF. If Dye and Everett play then we already know that situation. I would much rather have Dye playing full time than Crazy Carl. I am sure he will turn it around. You've gotta be kidding. Whatever definincies (sp?) that Everett has in the field he more than makes up for against right handed pitchers. Against righties, Carl has to be in the lineup every f***ing day if we want to have a productive offense. Against righties over the last three years, he's posted a line of .283/.356/.493, while Jermaine has posted a pretty pathetic line of (against righties) .240/.306/.429. Jermaine better pick it up, quick, or he's the man who's out of a job -- IMHO. You have to platoon the two. The only other option is to take out Podsednik, and that ain't happening. And my thoughts, as a whole, are that if we don't make the playoffs this year, Kenny ought to be sent packing, and same with Oz. For GM, Stone and Keith Law are two names I'd look at. But, I'm jumping way ahead here, in a scenario that might not even happen, so I guess I shouldn't have even brought it up... :banghead
  8. BHam, how does Reynoso look? He seems like he's doin' well right now, but I'd like a first-hand account. And, uck -- Fields hitting in the .250's, Owens hitting at the Mendoza line, and Young hitting below it -- are those three overmatched? I know it's very early, but...
  9. QUOTE(Gldfinger5 @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 04:58 PM) Because you wouldn't hear about a hitting streak of 7 games from Frank or Paulie. Every sox article on the net or paper you read talks about his hitting streak. A couple of days ago they were talking about it increasing to 5. Whoop de doo!!! I find it ridiculous that they need to fish for positive things to say about his offensive ability. Maybe it's just me, but a seven game hit streak is pretty impressive...
  10. Oh -- and our leadoff hitter went 2-9 with a walk this series...
  11. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 10:50 PM) So basically your comment had squat to do with this game, even though you were referring to the game? I was at the game, Harris had a real good jump -- or so it seemed to me. IMHO he looked like he got under the tag, but it was a bang-bang play. Did they show a replay on TV? Was he safe or out?
  12. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 10:48 PM) Ah. So you're blaming this on Ozzie, I guess, saying that he should never put Willie in as a pinch runner and allow him to steal? I mean, if it was so obvious, certainly Ozzie should have seen that. Jackie -- tell me that I'm coming home seeing the loss blamed on Harris?
  13. QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 04:35 PM) I think by the ASB we might be ready to put Gio down as our 7th pitcher... You meant to put that in green, right?
  14. If we're going to use, "Well, our number two hitter is still getting adjusted to America" as an excuse, maybe he shouldn't be hitting in the two spot...
  15. Beck, back to your first post -- I believe we have control over Garland through 2006, I think he's arbitration eligible after the season.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 12:14 AM) Ya but willie would have to get on base first, before you could do a hit and run. He had a .360 OBP vs. righties last year. Better than just about anyone else we have to choose from... And, I'll take Willie's weak arm playing center over Timo's s***ty bat in left.
  17. QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 11:27 PM) This is just crazy talk... Garland will be better than El Duque this year I am almost positive on that.. Contreras will prolly be around 14 - 9 with an ERA in the 4's mostlikely.. They are both in their 30's yet we got a young guy like Garland who isnt making that much and is pitching worth what we are paying for him with a chance to have a big year this year.. Why would he be the man who is gone? Garland > Contreras and El Duque It would be a dumb move to commit to the other two instead of Garland, imo, based on age, price, and performance I'm saying that if he puts up a year like you have him pegged at -- then he's gonna get some good money in arbitration. I'm not saying it's a great move, but I can see the Sox being more committed to the vet in Hernandez rather than Garland.
  18. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 11:19 PM) He wouldn't sign that. He's making the average of that in 2005, and he'll do better next year if he's merely league average again. That's a good point. I'd really like to see Kenny's "Big Board" right now, as far as our staff for next year. I can assure you that Buehrle, Garcia, and probably McCarthy are on it. And El Duque, most likely. If Contreras has a big season, Garland may not be with us in '06...
  19. QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 11:17 PM) Um if he has a huge season why would we want to get rid of him? Playing in our park we need our pitchers to be solid, if he has a huge season its all the more reason to keep him in the fold.. If a team wants to give us a whole lot for him -- that's the only way I'd do it. If Jon puts up the season that you have him pegged for, or even a little worse, he can command (and get) 6-7 million on the open market. But, I believe we have control over Jon for at least one more year beyond this season...
  20. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 05:14 AM) its a title i'll gladly share... Jon deserves a little more support than he gets... he starts every fifth day... and if he can keep himself out of big innings... he can be an above average. I personally wouldn't mind if the Sox locked Jon up on a three year contract. Average pitchers are making five to eight million a year, and up till now, Jon's been a league average pitcher. I realize he isn't awesome, but if you could lock him up for three years for at about ten million (not per year -- total, obviously), I'd probably do it. That, or if he has a huge season this year, sell him high to a team that wants pitching and is willing to give up a whole lot...
  21. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) timo had an ugly start, hopefully pods is back soon. I'm going to the game tomorrow. I'll puke if I see Timo manning LF. I'd really like to see Ozuna and Harris in the lineup, giving Iguchi and Perez the day off. Let Harris lead off, with Ozuna hitting second. Ozzie should love that, lots of speed with good contact in the two hole -- he can certainly do a lot of hit-and-runs with those two...
  22. Congrats Tony! Definitely deserved it!
  23. Hmm... Hate to be picky, but Timo was 0-4. No reason he should be hitting first, no reason at all. He isn't a leadoff hitter. I realize that there aren't many other options, but come on -- get Harris in center and move Rowand to left. Put Ozuna in left, do something different. That guy is just about the worst option on our team to be leading off...
  24. Just got back from my first outing at the golf course today, but luckily I was able to bring a walkman to listen to an awesome, awesome performance by Mark Buehrle. Damn. 1:39? That's f***ing awesome right there. 12 K's, CG, the win, Mark, here's to you...
  25. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) Not even close to joking. Those that watch Beltre play every day or close to it will soon see just how sick of a defensive player he really is. Beltre is going to save a lot of runs for the Mariners with his glove alone, that's for sure...
