  1. I'll give my props to Neal Cotts. While going an inning and giving up nothing when you're up 9-1 isn't that big of a deal, we just need him to give us some innings and a reasonable ERA (Hell, if he can give us a 5.00 ERA over the season, I'll be not thrilled, but happy). The kid can pitch, and when he gets going, he'll be a big help to our bullpen. When he has that fastball/slurve working, he's really hard to hit. Let's hope he can spot those pitches with more regularity...
  2. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 01:35 AM) Great find.....The records don't lie.... If someone's bored enough, and they don't believe me, I've never called Garland "Judy".... Same here, greasy. I never felt the need to refer to him as "Judy"... I've said " Jon", but never "Judy". And I'm proud to say I was pretty supporting of Jon throughout last year. And sox-r-us, this is twice this week you've been caught in a lie. Looks like the records do lie...
  3. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 01:27 AM) All Garland haters from pervious years can go f*** themselves The fact is this guy is worth every $ for us. Yes, he has not lived up to the expectations yet but for the $ he makes, no way we should let him go anywhere yet. We have a fixed salary team (unlike Red Sox, Yanks) and hence, we need to always retain those players that give us the value for our $. Garland as a #5 is superb value, given he is worth 10 wins every year at least. Now, after his 3rd win tonight going 8 innings strong, his ERA is 2.5. It may not stay there all year, but this is the reason you never dump someone cheap and solid like him. :fyou Garland haters While I don't want to go back and look up all your posts, I doubt you were supporting Jon every step of the way... Nice call, Addy. Go Jon!
  4. QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) Yeah, it's not a stellar collection of media talent at Comcast Sports Net. We get a kick out of watching them, the guy who did the postgame last nite, Pat ?, he's a walking talking mistake machine. Then there's William Jackson, whom my wife refers to as Crooked Head. He looks like his head is placed on his left shoulder vs. his neck. Mitch Robinson is ok and so is Karrie Sayers, even though she's got that little piggie nose thing going. Gail Fischer = Cub loving dolt. Some of the people they used to have on Fox Sports Net, maybe they weren't the greatest but they tried hard and had personalities and were likeable people ... i.e. Damon Andrews, Megan Mawicke. They went on to bigger and better things, which is good for them but I liked them. Ditto Jill Carlson and I also thought Julie Sweica was good although she needed a wardrobe coach at times. Oh, Pat Boyle is garbage. I don't know how many times he used the "gap" line during ST (for those who didn't see, they'd show highlights, and a guy from the Sox/Cubs would hit the ball into the LC/RC gap, and he'd be like, "And so and so is going shopping at the Gap, gonna buy a new shirt, some sandals, and a triple!"). And whoever that nerdy lookin' guy who was at the Sox game last night was just terrible. Ozzie answered four questions about Shingo, and then said that he'd like for the media to stop asking questions because they'd get the same answer, and the reporter asks about Shingo. :banghead And William Jackson -- his voice jumps ten notches every time someone dunks... "And Tyson Chandler says, 'you know what, i'm gonna slam this BALL". It's annoying and histerical at the same time.
  5. I really want to try and make it out to one of the LA/Sox games. Jason, you said they're wearing the '59 jerseys on that Friday?
  6. I don't know who they're going to pick, but I really hope that if they go with a WR, they go with Williams, and if they go with a RB, they go with Benson. And, maybe Angelo can make a trade with that second round pick to get a late second rounder and a fourth rounder. I think taking Nugent that early in round two is sort of a waste, but I'd definitely love to see him in a Bears uni... EDIT: And you guys have sold me on Benson, so, if they do in fact pick him, I'm hoping that everything (most) of you guys said about him is true.
  7. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 04:59 PM) It does not have to be discussed after every game, but it does deserve to be discussed every now and then because it is the single most impt reason we cannot compete consistently. If we had the payroll of the Cubs, we would be winning the division for the past 5 years (no doubt in my mind). And yes, high payroll does not mean you will win automatically, but with Kenny at our helm, I am comfortable with him making those decisions. Bulls***. Our payroll has been larger than the teams in this division the past what, four years? At least since Cleveland's "dynasty" ended. Money doesn't do s***. We're at $75 million this year, that's more than enough to win on... EDIT: I shouldn't say that money doesn't do s***, because, it does. But we're above average in the major leagues, and the payroll might be upped to $80 million (JR said it). You can't tell me that we can't compete because we don't have a huge payroll. A smart GM will overcome most lack of money deficincies...
  8. You are the king of sample sizes. I'm sure glad that Vinny Castilla is one of the best third basemen ever. And, Ozuna is probably right behind him for that awesome spring he had.
  9. I said it in the chat, but I'll say it here -- Ozzie's delegating Marte to LOOGY roles pisses me off. He's clearly been our best reliever the past three seasons, and it's bulls*** that he's getting so few innings...
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 12:49 AM) Exactly, so keep his ass on the bench for PH reasons. I'd rather Dye get to hit against a finesse pitcher like Radke in order to try and get it going. I agree with you, fathom. I don't know why Harris can't be put in center and Rowand moved to right. You're not losing anything by doing that except losing Timo's arm, which is more than replaced by Harris' better range. Ah hell.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 12:47 AM) Timo as our 5th hitter is an absolute joke. He's now 4-21 on the season! But he's clutch...
  12. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) No, Timo hit his upper tank shot against Radke last time, that's probably one of the reasons he's in there tonight. He still went 1-for-4 on the night...
  13. And wasn't Radke the guy who Harris went 2-for-5 off of? Was it Radke? Damnit damnit.
  14. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 11:42 PM) No. Timo hitting fifth... ... ... ... :headshake :puke
  15. Redskins acquire the 25th pick of this year's first round from the Broncos. I'll post a link ASAP, but the Broncos get the 'Skins 3rd-rounder this year, and a 1st & 4th in 2006. (Don't quote me, though)
  16. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 03:54 AM) I hope this is true, however I really doubt it. Do you think he would be fine with just being a bench player as long as they won? I serisouly doubt it. He may want to win, but he also cares about playing and putting up numbers. He would never want to be a Julio Franco type player. And why should he be? He's still capable of putting up damn good numbers. If Barry Bonds was asked to ride the pine, do you think he'd be very happy with it? You don't ask your best player (or one of your best) to be relegated to the bench -- unless the situation absolutely calls for it, i.e. interleague, or if Thomas absolutely sucks against a tough righty.
  17. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 03:06 AM) He wanted to either be a starter or closer. He was not gonna close there because they had other people in mind. ...And because he was under the age of 35.
  18. What an offseason by Melvin -- it must be viewed as one of the best. Stole Lee for not a whole lot (Vizcaino moreso than Pods), and grabbed Atlanta's best pitching prospect (or so I heard) in Capellan (sp?). That might turn into a hell of a team if some of their younger kids can pan out...
  19. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) When Frank Thomas actually steps into uniform for the Sox this season and proves he is healthy, then talk about how great he is. Until then, he's not the best player on the Sox. He's not even a part of the active roster and we are 8-4. OK -- well, I think we've seen Frank at his worst, and Frank at his worst was still pretty damn good.
  20. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 10:28 PM) He is not 10 times the player of anyone on the team if his only contribution to the team is at the plate. Had he been a solid fielder his whole career, there wouldn't even be a debate as to whether or not he belongs in the hall of fame. This is why you see and will continue to see few DH players in the Hall of Fame. Sorry to burst your bubble, but in his current state, Frank Thomas is not 10 times the player of several guys on the Sox roster. Hell he's not even the best player. At the plate, he still is. Who's better than him? Rowand, maybe if he continues at what he did last season. That's about it. Ten times was an extreme situation, but he's still better -- offensively -- than anyone we have on our team...
  21. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 10:24 PM) The guy can't even play the field, so how can he be ten times the player of anyone on the team? :headshake What does that matter? The DH is there for a reason... Are you saying that a player should hurt his teams overall chances of winning a baseball game by putting them out into the field? EDIT: And if I didn't put "offensively" in there, then that's my fault -- I should have.
  22. QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 10:19 PM) If Rodgers goes #1 Miami will take Smith or trade im almost 100% positive on this.. Geez, where have I been? I thought Saban was in love with Ronnie Brown?
  23. QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 10:12 PM) Upstairs is the Pepsi 1/2 price thing. Aww, that pisses me off. Only UD tix? I don't hate the UD, but it'd be nice to sit in the lower bowl. Damn.
  24. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) Why you want to sit up there...??? No, I don't think they will sell out. I just figured you guys would want to sit in the lowers. No, not that I wanted to sit up there, but I figured they'd all be gone via ticketmaster/phone by the time I'd get there. And the problem is, I'm not quite sure who's coming with me yet. I think I'm having some of my friends come up with me, but don't have a set number on that yet. If I get there at say 5:45, do you think I'll be able to grab LD OF/bleacher tix?
  25. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) You guys might want to call and get them today... Let me know where you're at. Jim and I will be there also. Steff, they might actually be sold out by tomorrow? I was hoping I could come a couple hours early and grab some good UD seats...
