  1. See, Ross can catch the ball in the OF. And that's a White Sox Winner!
  2. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 02:29 AM) I remember that game very well as it was the first time in a long time I had been at Wrigley and the wind was not a big problem. Ross had a string of terrible defensive games during that time of the season. He is not a good defensive OF. More reason why Timo has started in RF/LF for Dye and Pods this season. Yeah, but the bad outweighs the good with Timo. He's nothing special at the plate at all. To each his own, I guess, but I'd take my chances for one game, putting Gload out there rather than Timo.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 02:17 AM) Gload's coming in to bat for Dye. I guess this means Gload will have to battle the tough elements in RF for 2 innings. Gload's value shoots through the roof if he can play a decent LF/RF. Anyways, about that Cubs game that Gload botched a couple of flyballs -- I think I might have been at that game, and the wind was a real son-uvva-b**** that day. So, if that's what we're basing our judgement on Ross play OF from -- then, I'd say we should give him a shot to redeem himself. If he f***s up tonight, then OK, there goes that experiment.
  4. Garcia's at 95 pitches. It's iffy whether or not he'll come out -- I assume he'll come out for the 8th, but I'd like to see Cotts get some work. No need to overwork Garcia tonight. Then again, I guess I won't mind if he send Garcia out to see a batter or two. Just, let's keep Freddy below 110 pitches tonight.
  5. QUOTE(valponick @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 01:59 AM) About f***ing time for Rowand....where did everyone go? I'm chatting with myself. I'm real tired tonight. I'd normally post a bit more, but I'm going back and forth between here and another board. Otherwise, I'd be chattin' more with ya, valpo. AJ doubles! Rowand scores. Crede singles!
  6. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 01:18 AM) :headshake :fyou Looking at Gameday, that looked like a f***ing blast to right-center. He got all of it, no mistake about it. That kid is good. Oh, and I'll join ya -- thanks a lot, Percival. Six million a year my f***ing ass... :fyou
  7. In game update -- Morneau homers in the ninth, 4-4 tie. f***ing Percival.
  8. Nice, Scotty -- two walks. That 'away to set the table...
  9. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 09:03 PM) Yes Benson probably could rack up better yards but I would rather have Jones and MWilliams than Benson and Bobby Wade......... Hmm -- to each his own, I guess. I haven't seen Jones have one year where he's dominated. Then again, I was a pretty big fan of Anthony Thomas, too -- and people questioned that.
  10. QUOTE(rangercal @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 03:18 AM) sounds like cubbie talk to me Geez -- I don't agree with his opinion either, yet it's "Cubbie" talk because he disagrees with your opinion? We just got done reading about the McCarthy hearings in AP American History, too. Disagree with the majority opinion, get called a commie. It's a stretch on my part, though... EDIT: And stupid me, posting after not reading the whole thread. I deserve a bunch of . Disregard everything I said, shouldn't have said anything.
  11. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 03:56 AM) Timo is not a center fielder... he is too slow for it. Yes, i know he has played there in the past but he can't get to s*** in the corners and we would feel comfortable with him in center? Timo catches what he gets to, the problem is getting to it. Just because a guy can play a position doesn't necessarily mean he can play it well. I don't like Timo in LF or RF as it is. Timo in CF??? :puke
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 03:26 AM) Timo doesnt have bad defense..... I know you all hate the way he catches the ball but he always makes the catch so I dont see how that makes him a bad defender. He also has a really good arm too. It's simple. Poor range = bad defense. And Timo has poor range. I don't care the way he catches the ball. Whatever works -- he hasn't dropped one catching it like that, so whatever. But he's slow as hell, and makes diving catches that make him look good when in reality, another OFer would make the same play look ten times easier.
  13. Harris, none of the backs you are mentioning are even close to the caliber of Benson. And, if the conditions were the same for Benson and Jones -- just on a hunch, I bet that Benson would rack up more yards than Jones. I also think we can get a pretty good TE at two. If that Miller kid is still there (out of West Virginia, right?), then that's damn good value in the second round...
  14. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 02:57 AM) I wouldn't be so sure about that. Did you see Gload in the outfield last season? Gload's bat + Gload's Poor OF Defense is still >>>>>>>>> Timo's bat (or lack thereof) + Timo's Better-than-Gload-but-still-not-very-good defense.
  15. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 02:27 AM) No matter the offensive line, we couldn't run last year when the defense has no worries about you passing game and load the box. Which is why we picked up Moose. And I'm 99.9% certain that Turner wants to use Gage a hell of a lot more than Terry Shea used him. I like Mike Williams, but I think having a top back -- who will touch the ball 20-35 times a game -- is more important than a wide receiver, who won't get the ball half the time.
  16. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 02:22 AM) Yeah but Reggie Brown, Heath Miller, etc are > Fason, and will probably be around at our 2nd pick. I think the Bears are building a defense and running team. Ball control wins championships, it may not be sexy, but look at who has won the last 4 Super Bowls. SB Well, good-to-great defenses has been consistent in all four. And I don't see any star WR's on those teams, either, though some will argue that Troy Brown might have been. Which is why I still want them to take Derrick Johnson. Best LB core in football, I'm tellin' ya, if they take him.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 02:12 AM) Mush and Bray/Mike gives you 2 solid receivers that you'll always have to wrry about. This will force defenses to have a LB or 2 drop back in coverage or have safeties deeper. This is a great advantage for RB's liek TJ because once he get's through the line, he has more room to roam. He had 900-some yards last year and missed like 1 or 2 games. A full season would have had him well over 1000. Since when have we been a passing team, though? In the cold months of December, it's a hell of a lot easier to have your offense running on the back of Benson/Caddy than on the arm of Grossman. I know I'm sounding like one of the old, Doug Baffone "Run the ball down their throats and awesome defense" type of guys, but I believe a productive back will have more of an effect on this team than a WR. But like I said, I won't be mad if they grab Williams/Edwards. I'm still hesitant on Edwards, but I'd have to say if they grab Williams or Benson, it's at the point where I'd be extremely pleased. If they took Johnson, I'd faint out of happiness...
  18. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 02:06 AM) Well, you do like Gload over Timo. That's because Gload >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Timo.
  19. DetroitWhat, what were the overall expectations of the Tigers from the Tiger fan base, generally? And, how did Tiger fans view the Maggs signing? I like Bonderman, but a lot of us Sox fans never really bought the Tigers being contenders. And, while 16 games or so certainly isn't enough to make a real good judgement from, I can't see the Tigers competing throughout the year just because of a lack of pitching. Bonderman seems like he might turn into a real good pitcher in the next few years, but other than him, I don't see anyone that stands out. And, as far as the Maggs signing -- the Tigers only out was if Maggs hurt his knee. So, he could injure himself anywhere else, and the contract would still be in play. On top of all that, even when Maggs was healthy, I never really saw him as a 5/$75 type of guy. I hope I don't come off as a guy who's just piling on, because you could certainly do the same to me (us) in a basketball or hockey conversation (for that matter, baseball too -- who am I kidding, were the ones who haven't won a title in 80+ years) -- but, do you have any thoughts?
  20. Settle down, fellas. You're disrupting the good vibes that me and Tony have been "setting"... Who cares? If he wants to start the thread a day early, let him. I personally would like to see us (as a board) keep a closer eye on what the Twins do, but maybe that's just me. Come on Tiggies. How about gettin' hot right after you play us? That'd be nice.
  21. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 01:09 AM) I didn't know i had one... I guess mine and yours wanting Gload to be a starter (so long as the conditions were right) got him to be your 'boy'. Other than that, though, you haven't really deserved for him to be your 'boy'. I'd consider that one guy (switching sports for a second) from the 76ers your boy -- Iguadala, is it?
  22. Mark the time: 8:45 Central. Draft fever has hit me... Addy, I know you've been pumped for awhile now, but up till now, it hasn't hit me. It's here. I can't f***in' wait.
  23. Plus, Badger -- if the Bears take "Cadillac" (I know that's spelled wrong) Williams, can you think of all the endorsement opportunities gallore? 'Cause, you know, the Bears are sponsored by "Cadillac". Ah -- a PR-guy's dream...
  24. Like the name of the title? I ought to work for a newspaper... Anyways, it looks like we're finally seeing a little bit of giving from both sides. I guess the NHLPA offered a system with floating caps and floors from year to year, with the caps moving up or down based upon revenues. I really hope they get it done. I don't think I can go two years without hockey. Plus, it'd be nice to have an NHL Draft come June. That's one of the best events that we Hawk fans have to look forward to from year to year, and it'd be a bummer if we miss out on the famed 'Crosby' draft. Anyways, here's the article. Link
