  1. Hmm, I found this interesting. In the Sporting News, on the little section called Inside Dish (P. 43), Ken Rosenthal has this to say about the Sox (Sorry, no link.): "The White Sox represent another possible trade partner for the Mariners. GM Ken Williams badly wants to add a starting pitcher, but he likely would want Seattle to assume at least part of RHP Freddy Garcia's $6.875 million salary and include a young player if the Sox were to part with a major league ready outfield prospect such as Joe Borchard or Jeremy Reed."
  2. Rather than Borchard, I'd give them Rauch/Rowand/One more prospect. That way Joe Borchard would still be on our team, and he might even get a callup. Kenny - if all they want is Rauch and Rowand. Give them something extra, nothing huge, but a lower level prospect, and get this deal done ASAP! We want Freddy!
  3. lol Come on Jeckle, you were supposed to be the voice of reason now!
  4. (knock on wood) Aubrey Huff hits a three-run shot in the sixth, and the D-Rays lead it, 4-2, YEESSSSS! Top of the seventh, 4-2 D-Rays! Keep it up Rays!
  5. OK - At least I think we are on, a little bit, the same page now. Let me address what you said last, about how Cotts and Reed aren't going to be enough to get Sheets. Just letting you know, Otis never said that Cotts and Reed would be enough to get Sheets. IIRC he said that it would take a package that included Reed, or Borchard, and Cotts to get Sheets. What I take from that is that Reed and Cotts would be a good portion of the deal for Sheets, but not the whole deal. IMO, you undervalue our prospects. Considering Reed is battling two (I think two, but maybe it's just one) ailing wrists, yet still hitting right around .290, and still has about a .380 OBP is simply amazing, well, to me at least. If this is the worst of Jeremy Reed, I think that a lot of teams are going to be more than intrigued. Especially for teams looking for a potential 1 or 2 hitter, a table setter who could get on a good portion of the time (Around .400/.1000). Believe me, a lot of teams, especially those out of contention, would give up a starting pitcher for a PACKAGE that included Reed and Cotts.
  6. OK, then find me one of these rumors since the Nomar/Maggs deal or the Wunsch/Bellhorn deal if you're so confident that these rumors pop-up so often... Yes, the possibility of Maggs being traded was talked about a little bit here in the offseason, but no where near the magnitude of when Otis brought it up that they were actually talking about this huge deal (which came up three weeks later). And say what you want, Otis was the one to break the news of this all coming about. No writers mentioned it. No one from ESPN mentioned it, Otis had it right - on weeks before it ever came about. Again, I want you to find me one of these so-called 'many' rumors that Otis comes up with (Other than the Nomar/Maggs and Wunsch/Bellhorn deal which he was correct about). He doesn't just pull stuff out of his ass and post it like a lot of other 'rumors'. Like I said - if you don't believe him, that is fine. But don't spew out things like 'he's come up with all these rumors that are never right', when you haven't yet come up with one of these rumors. He was right about both the Nomar/Maggs deal, and about the Wunsch/Bellhorn deal. He broke both of those weeks before they happened. If you want to call that gullable, whatever. But more often than not, he's been right about these. Thus I have faith in him. Don't even try comparing him to Peter Gammons, because, that's just wrong...
  7. No - he was the first one to mention the deal, weeks before ANYONE, ANYONE, even had a thought of it, so no, you're wrong about that. He was also spot-on about the Wunsch/Bellhorn deal that would have gone down had it not been for Wunsch's injury (Reinsdorf even mentioned it when he was on the Score). And he hasn't even posted on WSI since then, so I don't know what you're talking about in saying 'there have been two or more cases where Otis has been wrong.' The Milwaukee GM, while he has said that Sheets is going to be very hard to get, has said that he wants two or three top prospects for Sheets. Reed is as 'Top-Prospecty' as they get - and Cotts has been successful in his middle-relief role this year, he's still young (a former 1st rounder, might I add) and if he's given time to stretch out/develop, he can become a very good lefty starter. I also don't think that giving them Cotts/Reed is the jist of the deal - we'd probably have to give them a little more. But please, please - don't be so stupid about this. Honestly... If you don't believe him, that's fine, I really don't care. But no need to sound like an idiot about it. :headshake
  8. Wunsch had his chances when he was up here. For example, we called him in to face Hank Blalock in a key situation at home vs. Texas, there were RISP, and Blalock blasted a base-hit. Wunsch isn't his old self, and if all he can do is get out lefties (which he didn't do while he was up here), he doesn't have much value to this or any team...
  9. Bellhorn has a .393 OBP right now, and I think he's very close to the league lead in walks. I was very angry when that trade didn't go down, Bellhorn is like an ultra utility guy, he can play almost every IF position as well as the corner outfield positions IIRC.
  10. To add to that, event though his source lies in Boston, he says the job of his source (or whoever he knows) is to be somewhat knowledgable on who other teams are interested in or inquired about.
  11. You're trying to compare Reed and Harris? I hope you're just kidding. I love Willie Harris but....
  12. But is Burke>Reed at this point? I think Reed at his worst would be > what Rowand/Gload/Perez could provide out in rightfield.
  13. He certainly has become, IMO, the second most dangerous hitter in baseball. In a few years he will be the best. But, the thing with Vlad - he hits bad pitches. For instance, one pitch I saw, it was at his ankles, and he hit it out. The only place to pitch him is in the dirt, or way way outside. If you fool him and get him out, that has to be a moral victory in itself.
  14. Two words: Jeremy Reed.
  15. OK but you're still annoying and blurt out stupid things more often than not... Its stupid to say 'He doesn't sound that great and his defense isn't that great'. You've never even seen him play, and if you are reading SOXTALK, Jeremy Reed is talked about a ton and he is just plain considered awesome. He's hitting 280 with like a 375 OBP and that is considered a slump for him. So what's it like when he's consistent, 300Avg/400 OBP? That's simply amazing, IMO...
  16. 9 RBIs against the BoSox. He is so damn good... 4-4, 2 homers, 9 RBIs (as mentioned). His average is now up to .357. I'm sorry Maggs, but even when he's hitting at his best, Maggs doesn't hit 350 plus. And, to tell you the truth, I think that Vlad can keep this up. He is such a good contact hitter, add to that he is strong as hell. An awesome outfielder, talk about a five tool player there - you're looking at him.
  17. Yeah - You certainly have been the voice of reason. Saying things like: Jeremy Reed is overrated. We should trade him for whatever we can get for him, because he sucks and he just sucks and, did I say he sucks? I don't think my Jeckle impression is as good as santo's, but I tried.
  18. I like, though, how we can say that 'Reed is in a slump' and he's still hitting a quality .280. If that's Reed's worst, he is going to be a very good player.
  19. Yeah - it's good to know Kenny isn't going for fifth starters just to 'get by' and win the division, or give us a shot to. IMO, any one of these pitchers greatly improves our odds of a playoff run, and hopefully a penant run. I can honestly say I trust otis. I don't think, as some of you think, that Sheets and Sabathia are as 'untouchable' as you make them seem. Remember what we gave up for Colon? Basically jack-squat. Now I understand that was a pretty different situation, but you understand my point? Pretty interesting - Sabathia is only 23 years of age... He's young, and each year in the majors he's gotten better and better. In two years, he might be a top lefty in the AL, plus it would pair him with another top lefty in the AL, Mark Buerhle.
  20. Oh, alright, I understand - yeah, well, I think it is for the better that the deal didn't go down. Nomar's been out two months, but then again, now Maggs is going to be out for possibly another month. Well, to the reason either team would trade Sheets and Sabathia - for Milwaukee, looked what happened with Sexson. They didn't get one star player, but they got three solid players who could play well for them and contribute. And Otis says that Milwaukee would want Reed/Borchard, and a few others. So if he could pick up a few good prospects (Or players who could contribute next year like Cotts), then he'd probably do it again. Like I said in earlier threads, I would give up Cotts and Borchard for Sabathia. I don't think that is what the deal is all about, but if that is all the Cleveland GM (Again, I doubt that that is all he wants) than I would do it.
  21. I consider Otis one of very few actual reliable sources. Say what you want, he was spot on about the Mags/Nomar deal as well as the Wunsch/Bellhorn deal - neither went down, but both probably would have went down. The Wunsch one didn't go down only because of Wunsch's injury.
  22. That's good - I mean, the guy really started hitting well before his slight injury, and if anyone deserves it, it's him. He's been labeled about every word possible. Good luck Joe, we certainly could use a right fielder on the big club for a month or so!
  23. ABoz - just wondering - is Borchard healthy? When was the last time he played? I haven't been able to keep up with Charlotte lately...
  24. I, like Jeckle, am hoping for two out of three. A sweep would be great, but considering our west coast troubles - two out of three.
