Yeah, my brother subscribes to Baseball America, I was just looking around and he's like their 44th overall rated prospect. He had a 1.78 ERA, in what is believed to be (well, that's what I heard) a tough Big 12 Conference. That's solid to me - add a Zito-like curve, and I'd love taking him with one of those "sandwich" picks. BTW, What kind of picks (Overall picks) would Maggs get if we offered him arbitration and he declined? They'd be better than those sandwich picks (around the mid-30th overall picks), right?

Can someone explain to me what a 're-draft' is? Isn't it when a guy gets, say drafted out of high school, but doesn't sign with the team, so is thus the next year put into the draft again? Can a prospect be redrafted on more than one occasion?
-
Wow - that.... Well, that sucks... Losing a few MPH, one can adjust, but losing ten? Hopefully he can regain all/most of it back. Doesn't he throw a knuckle-curve?
-
I'm actually pretty interested in, I think his name was J.P. Powell/Howell. You said his curve is compared to Barry Zito's, and that just jumps out at me. What team did you say he played for, again? Im hoping I get a chance to see this kid play on TV, as for some reason, my cable has given me all of these College Baseball channels, which rocks! I think I'm like WHarris. I don't really follow college baseball too much, but I'm interested in potential Sox prospects/draftees.

Uh-oh. Greg Maddux leaves because of injury after going 6 2/3rds innings. Off to the locker room.
-
Ramon Ortiz barely had any control against us coming in as a reliever. You want him as a starter? Jarrod Washburn yeah, but not Ramon Ortiz...
-
Exactly what I was thinking (great minds must think a like ). A curveball compared to Zito's is pretty good...

Make it two tommorow!

OKState wins in 13.
-
Third, I believe, but if OKState closes this one out, we won't see him again until possibly the NCAA Baseball Tourney. Ooooo, a mean curve from the OKState closer.
-
Did I just miss something? Did it just go from the ninth inning to the 13th?
-
Damn, the wind is playing games with the ball...
-
Wow - that looked like Ball 4....
-
Sorry for posting this, I know it's not the right topic/forum, BUT: Runners on second and third, two out. 9-8 Mizzou leads, Top of the Ninth. OK State trying to comeback from an eight fun defecit... EDIT: Bases Loaded. Wild pitch, one run scores, 9-9, Runners at second and third, TWO out.
-
Damn - Fields just CRUSHED one into the left field bleachers, granted it was a hanger, but man. The guy can swing the stick. Meanwhile, OKState has come back from down 9-1 and it's now 9-8 with a runner on first in the Top of the Ninth, NOBODY out. Wow, this is exciting!

The Continuing Decline & Fall of Mark Buehrle

Hey, look who's back! It's Rector! Rector, how's that crow tasting? Oh, and how's the job at the White Sox Times going? -
ChiSox, can you give me a little more info on Josh Fields. I read the post you had about possible picks in the first round about him. I know he isn't going to fall into the second round, but I really like him. They've had on the Big12 Championships that past few days on FSN and I've really enjoyed watching him play. I know he's a two-sport athlete, but I really think the White Sox should look into drafting him. It looks like he can hit the ball to any part of the field, he has some power, plays a pretty good third base (could use some work), and isn't slow. I really like how strong and athletic he is (or seems to be), and if he is really, really dedicated to baseball, I wouldn't mind the Sox taking a page on him.
-
I question the reliability of a source in New York having more 'inside' news about contract negotiations than any one of the Chicago papers...
-
I've been watching him the past two days, because it's been on FSN, and I just love his stroke. It looks like he can go opposite way, he's got power, he plays a good thirdbase, he's not slow, and he's just a strong/athletic guy, I guess that's what happens when you play football and baseball. The only thing that scares me about him is if he really loves baseball or if he's torn between football/baseball, but IIRC aboz or Rex said that he is totally committed to baseball, unlike Borchard.

Best starting pitchers theoretically available
CWSGuy406 replied to SoxAce's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Tom Glavine - I would love to have him. He'd bring playoff experience, and he's been awesome thus far. I wouldn't mind a playoff rotation of Buerhle-Loaiza-Glavine. Freddy Garcia-I think he would be a great fit here in Chicago. He and Ozzie are buddies, so I think Oz would find a way to get the best out of him. He has awesome stuff, he just tends to be mentally unstable up on the mound sometimes, which is where I think Oz would help out. Kip Wells - I'd love to have Kipper back. He's been solid with the Bucs, but I dunno if he would be able to help in the playoffs. That's why I tend to like Glavine/Garcia more, but then again, I don't know his mentality. He could be just as good in the playoffs as a Garcia would be. -
If we can somehow stay right around first place for this month, I think we're poised to make a run in the closing months of July-August-September. Minnesota has a pretty easy schedule for this month - Their opponents include Tampa, Detroit, Mets, Phillies, Expos, Brew Crew, BoSox, and WhiteSox to close the month. I dont get it. Is something screwed up with MLB.com's scheduling, it has the Twinkies also playing Tampa in July for a short two game set, which would mean they play Tampa eight times in a season... I'm confused. OT: Damn, Josh Fields from OKState is pretty dang good...
-
Agreed - after the one-hitter, even of it was just one game, you know the guy still has it. He was hitting all his spots, he mixed up locations and speeds, it was an awesome game to watch. He does carry his contract into 2005, so that will probably make for part of the decision, but I'd personally love for him to be stuck right into the number three spot (Making the rotation Buerhle-Loaiza-Glavine-Garland-Show, L-R-L-R-L). Not to mention he brings the playoff experience. Glavine for Rauch and (Can this deal be made without dealing Borchard-Sweeney-Anderson-Honel-Reed-Munoz?)
-
I want to see Reed maintain a 300 average or there-abouts at Charlotte before I see him in a Sox uni. Granted, it's only a couple of months in and there is (IIRC) some wrist soreness, but let's not rush him. Im happy with our outfield as it is right now, and if Borchard keeps hitting like he has of late, then we can send Joe up before Reed, which is all the better. Let's not rush him. BTW, ABoz, A few days ago you mentioned Borchard sat out a game or two because of, perhaps reaggravating the back injury. Was he in the lineup yesterday (Or two days ago) and how's he doing?
-
Because we've won a couple of games without him? You want Ross Gload/Aaron Rowand platooning at RF the rest of the year? People don't just give away good pitchers, and there aren't a lot of teams offering pitchers who are in their prime. If we traded Mags, I'd want an ace who's at or around the age of 30. Not Randy Johnson... A Roy Halladay like guy. And frankly, that isn't happening...

If contract talks keep going in the crapper with Pedro, I'd like to throw some money his way. Derrek Lowe would be nice too at a reasonable price.
