Iguchi Traded to Phillies for RP/SP Michael Dubee
CWSGuy406 replied to IlliniKrush's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Apparently Kenny (or Kenny quotes) was on The Score talking about the trade? Can anybody recap? -
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 03:50 AM) WarCraft III disagrees. My favorites for the PC were definitely the Diablo series, an early version of Warcraft ("yes me lord") and Splatterball, a multiplayer only game that AOL offered. The graphics were very bad but the game was the s***. Great community, weekly ladder matches, holiday tournaments -- they had it all.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 02:07 AM) Sega Genesis: Golden Axe, Streets of Rage 2 These two are classics -- in fact, XBox 360 just added Golden Axe to its marketplace. I was always the skater kid in Streets of Rage. Is there a better boss than the fat boy who emerges from the pitching mound in that stadium?

Official Love for the Milwaukee Brewers Thread

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 04:59 PM) give them dye for villanueva/gwynn jr. That would be a terrible trade -- Gwynn Jr is pretty much Jerry Owens. Just what we need -- more fourth OFers. Ever since this thread was put up, Milwaukee has tanked. Me thinks this thread needs to be merged with the reular 'catch-all' thread. -
QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 04:21 PM) That's known as a bust. Umm, no -- far from it. Matt Bush is a bust. If Poreda made a career out of being a dominant left-handed reliever, I'd imagine that would be better than the 'average' value of a 25th overall pick. ---------- I'm not saying the Sox should focus on turning Poreda into a reliever, BTW.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 05:14 AM) lol after a while we did ban the wrap around, so I ended up just using angle shots and 1 timers. Every goal on NHL 94 seemed to be a glitch, that was the fun of it. I have NHL 96 on that same Sega I mentioned I have WS Baseball 96, it's a lot of fun. One timers were money in that game, too, especially if you got a quick pass. WS Baseball 96, there's another classic. For some reason I would always be the Rockies in my season modes -- I guess I couldn't resist the Bichette/Galarraga/Burks middle of the order. They also had Vinny Castilla and Larry Walker, and I had some strange fascination with brining Jon Vander Wal off the bench.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 05:23 AM) Poreda continues to dominate btw....2 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 3 k's, 3 groundouts......not sure if they think he's a SP or RP, but he seems ready for Kanny either way. If Poreda eventually made it as a 2006 version of Matt Thorton -- I'm talking dominant lefty setup man -- would people really be that pissed? I mean, I know Porcello was taken immediately afterwords, but I'd have to think that getting a great reliever with the 25th (?) overall pick is better than the 'expected value' of that pick.

Mariners Looking at Dye; Sox Looking at Otsuka

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 05:08 AM) Put him in LF, and put Sweeney out in RF. But trust me, if we trade him, I won't be upset (unless we get Jon Adkins back). I'd have to guess that as of right now, Josh Fields is your 2008 left-fielder. It's just too hard for me to see the Sox just cutting ties altogether with Crede, especially because there's a chance that the surgery goes well and he goes back to being an average hitter with a plus glove for a couple years. Not that I want the Sox to sign him long term, but I'd guess the first half of 2008 will be the Sox "showcasing" Crede to other teams. -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 05:24 AM) No. I'm talking about Built to Win and it is fantastic. Okay, good. I haven't gotten my hands on that one, but I wouldn't recommend Scout's Honor, which is seemingly written as a shot back at Moneyball rather than a book about Atlanta. I'd say just about every other chapter there's some hidden snip at computers, sabermetrics and whatnot. No, FYI I don't/didn't think of him as what you'd call a "Grinder GM". In today's game you've gotta have the best of both worlds -- if you don't, you end up like Pittsburg.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 04:56 AM) The Simpsons. Great f***ing game. I LOVED the part where you got a bucket of tomatoes and would throw them at people walking by the school. I know there were a bunch of Simpsons games, but that particular game was awesome -- IIRC, it was sort of a collection of mini-games.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 04:52 AM) Seattle has top 50 spects at all positions we need. Bavasi has made questionable moves in the past. Seattle could be desperate after losing 6 straight. Get it done KW. I don't think they'd give up Adam Jones, but I don't see Jeff Clement talked about the same way that I do other top prospects (maybe I'm not looking hard enough?). I'd love to have Clement -- his numbers don't look that great considering he's hitting in the PCL, but his .850 OPS is still better than anything we have at the catcher spot. Dye + Contreras + $$$ (say, half of Conde's contract) for Clement? -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 04:44 AM) Who knows what people will give up. It doesn't really need to be said, but PLEASE let some GM get a little ancy at the deadline and do the same for Dye. I've been saying this for the last week or so (and probably at this point, sounding like a broken record), but Dye picked the perfect time to get hot. I also hate to put injuries in any positive light whatsoever, but Valentin's injury for the Mets may have created a market for Iguchi. Speaking of Tad, I'd be very surprised if the Indians weren't asking about him -- Barfield has been awful for the Tribe (OPS of .611). -
Zombies Ate My Neighbors was an awesome game -- did anybody ever beat it all the way through without using a cheat? The old NHL games were the s***, too. Fighting was amazing. I was always either the Penguins or the Hawks -- the Jagr/Lemieux combo was just too good to pass up.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 04:37 AM) According to what I found online, Otsuka is a FA after this year. Well if that's the case, I still wouldn't mind trading for him. He's been an outstanding reliever in his short career -- ERA under 2.50 -- so he'll almost certainly qualify as a type A free agent. The Sox could also resign him, he'd be awesome to have in front of Jenks. However, if Rosenthal is right about the Rangers wanting a major league ready CFer, we don't really have that. Then again, who's going to give up a good major league ready CFer for a reliever rental (one who's hurt at the moment, too)? -

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7056962 Jerry Owens probably doesn't qualify as "young, major-league ready center fielder", does he? -
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 03:39 AM) I have a feeling we're going to have to bad contract for bad contract in order to get rid of him. I suggested Contreras for Jack Wilson, another bad contract. Would the Bucs do that trade straight up? I don't really like Wilson, but he's a strong defender and will give us a .300 OBP from SS (we haven't had that since 2004, Uribe's best year).

Dan -- Francisco Hernandez was suspended for quite some time this season, right? If so, was it an on-field related or a drug-related suspension?

QUOTE(AirScott @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 03:10 AM) So there appears to be a "Trade Konerko" camp. Why the heck wouldn't there be? I don't think anybody is wanting to trade him for beans, but he's by no mean untouchable. I personally think Anahiem might be a great fit, provided Casey Kotchman is coming back our way. Kotchman has been Konerko's equal this year, according to OPS+. If Stoneman offered, say, Kotchman, Willits and Santana for Konerko, it's definitely an offer I'd listen to. And as far as trading away the team's "heart and soul", the only thing that really matters to Sox fans are wins and losses.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 01:01 AM) And the more I read from Schuerholz book, the more I dislike Williams and the White Sox. Don't tell me you're talking about Scout's Honor. Christ did that book suck. "The Braves scouts didn't need no stinkin' numbers or new-fangled computers. The Braves scouts were able to see that this kid had heart."

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 07:41 PM) I don't think there would be many links of Sox employees publically s***ting on Kenny's deals. Hell, no one would admit Todd was a bad move until Kenny finally did at Soxfest in '05. Steff, I wasn't under the impression that fathom's sources worked for the Sox.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 07:12 PM) You mean the same ones that thought that Masset wasn't even close to being a major league caliber pitcher, and that Gavin Floyd was washed up, or that Aardsma was a bad acquisition? Yes, the same ones that laughed at all three moves from the Sox' perspective -- afterall, you had no bones about posting their thoughts on all three deals. And tell me, fathom, which of these deals did Kenny lose? Danks has been better than McCarthy and the Sox also get an extra cheap year out of Danks. Cotts for Aardsma has been crap for crap, although we got the throw-in who is looking like he might be an okay backend-of-the-bullpen type in Vasquez. And Garcia -- the trade that seemingly all scouts laughed in unison at Kenny Williams -- how about that trade? If either Gavin Floyd or Gio Gonzalez has but ONE good year out of the bullpen, the Sox will have won that trade in a landslide. Of course, I know Kenny should have been able to get Pelfrey, Milledge and Gomez for one year of Freddy Garcia's Shoulder, but...

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 07:11 PM) You can see it in Moneyball, for one. Yeah, they ripped him for their handling of Bradford and subsequent trade to the A's.... for Miguel Olivo. Tell me how that can be viewed as a loss. As far as the other time they rip on Kenny -- taking Ring over Blanton, a move I despised -- I believe the scouting director had more "pull" in that decision than Kenny.
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 04:45 PM) There's a reason Williams was a laughingstock for awhile Laughingstock? Are we talking about fathom's scouts who seemingly laugh their ass off at every move Kenny makes? I remember lots of 'quotes' from them immediately after the Freddy Garcia trade. I'd like to see what those same scouts are saying now...

This Fox Sports Soccer Channel definitely has been worth the investment. Let me just say two non-related things -- Kaka is f***ing amazing, and I think Fernando Torres is going to be unbelievable with LFC. Also, any answer to my question about about that LFCTV or MUTV?

Fields = a cheaper Crede with no back problems
CWSGuy406 replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 06:02 AM) If he can shorten up his swing so that he'll catch up to the fastball more consistently, look out. He already knocks the stuffing out of mistake off speed pitches, so he's ahead of the game. If we can get him to shorten the swing and let the bat and his natural power (which is bigger than Crede's) do the work on those good heaters, look out. I don't think his swing being too long is actually the 'problem' (I use that word loosely, seeing that Fields is at about a 90 OPS+, just about as good as could have been expected). When looking at his K numbers in the minors for the past two years, I feared Brian Anderson-like longness in his swing, and that's far from the case. My only idea about why he swings through so many pitches is because he gets 'overlocked' (if that makes sense) on a plan before the pitch is even coming that he can't adjust quick enough. For example -- a couple people pointed out that Fields, in his AB against Andrew Miller, didn't swing at the first two pitches (fastball strikes) because he was looking for breaking pitches. On another note, I've been very impressed with Fields' discipline at the plate. The pitches he swings at are generally good pitches. Maybe I'm wrong here, but it's rare to see him swing at a slider in the dirt. For somebody who wasn't impressed with the idea of Fields being the future at 3B, I sure have been pleasantly surprised. He's one of the reasons to watch this team the rest of the way.
