Charlotte played against Cleveland's affiliate so I noticed Andy Marte on the roster. Is he still injured? His OPS is in danger of falling below .700 in about 200 at-bats. He sure has fallen...

What a day for the two positional prospects worth a damn at Charlotte. The game isn't over yet, but Sweeney is 3-for-4 with two homers and Richar is 3-for-5 with a homer. Sweeney had a power surge in the second half last season -- we'll see if the same happens this season. Oh, and Eggy is teh awesome. He's still pitching but so far six innings, one run. Only four strikeouts but 11 groundouts to two flyouts. Neat-o.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I'm more of a fan of having separate NBA and NHL threads.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 10:17 PM) Finally got xbox live set up..."Bullsback83" if anyone ever wants to get spanked at NCAA. Once I get back up to school and have nothing else to do, you'll be first in line for an XBL ass-kicking...

I assume they would put Dunn in left and Hall -- once he heals up -- in center. But who would play right? I'd hope that Yost wouldn't bench their third best hitter (Hart) in favor of the veteran platoon of Jenkins/Mench. I'd have to think if Dunn were acquired, one of Mench or Jenkins would need to go to Cincy.

I, for one, welcome our new Invision overlords.

Yeah I tried emailing Phil Rogers, but haven't gotten a response. I'd have to imagine he's in some way injured...

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 14, 2007 -> 02:18 AM) As far as the loan system, most will tell you it is a very imperfect system. On initial glance, that's what I seem to think. It just seems to me like it's a system that could cause some problems, i.e. some "under the table" type agreements. Tevez is a striker, right? I'm still learning all the different formations, but isn't Man U pretty well-stocked up front with Saha and Rooney?
-
So is Carlos Tevez going to Man U for two years on a loan? I find that loan system very odd by the way, especially in this case -- one of West Ham's best players going to a team in the same 'league'?

Continuing on the blast from the past... http://www.baseballamerica.com/draftdb/xrnd.php?rnd=2 Maybe I'm overrating this a little bit, but the 2nd round of the 2004 draft is looking really good. Dustin Pedroia and Hunter Pence have already established themselves as solid everyday players, Yovani Gallardo is arguably the Brewers' second best starting pitcher right now (please, Yost, put him in the rotation!). Reid Brignac is struggling this season but is still considered a very good prospect, and Kurt Suzuki would probably be the A's everyday catcher if they weren't paying Jason Kendall $10 million. There's also one of the Twinkies' decent prospect, Anthony Swarzak. I remember during this second round I really wanted BJ Szymanski to make it to the Sox (he didn't -- probably a good thing) and was also extremely pissed when the Sox went with Lucy over Suzuki. I'd bash the Sox for missing out on so many of those 2nd rounders, but it's looking like they did their homework with the first two picks of Fields and Gonzalez (looking like the 2nd best player in the supp round behind Huston Street, and if Gio becomes an average starter he'll be the best).

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 02:53 AM) By my count that's two hitting coaches gone this season and neither of them were named Walker. Make that three -- the Mets fired their hitting coach, too. The Mets have scored 40 more runs than the Sox, playing in a pitchers' park without a DH. FWIW, the D'Backs have also scored more runs than us and are a team full of rookies. I really don't know how Walker has kept his job... Firing him isn't going to solve the team's problems, but the team hasn't hit for about a whole calender season. If an offense that's been stagnant for a whole doesn't warrant the firing of a hitting coach, I guess I don't know what does.

When you say a "Big 4" team, I assume you're talking about Arsenal, Chelsea, Manny U and Liverpool? I'm also taking it that this is a tough sport to follow from America because, for the most part, you can't see the games live (well, most of them)? That's sort of a bummer...

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 12:37 AM) Premiership is in the offseason for about another month -- until August 11, to be exact. Pretty soon, Premiership sides will play some friendlies (exhibitions to us on this side of the pond) to get ready for their long season ahead. Have you chosen your side yet? DBAHO swears by West Ham, while I swear at Tottenham. There are a lot of Big Four followers -- and of course, Sox Fan 1 will cheer for any side with a couple of Serbs! Following the matches is a lot more fun than a lot of folks would have you believe as well. It's an exciting game once you learn some of the nuances. Is there any way to follow the Premiership online? Like, does English soccer have their own version of MLB.tv or NHL Radio? If you were to put to a gun to my head right now to choose a side, I'd say Liverpool just because I go gaga over Gerrard. But I feel like that would be like an Englishman picking a team to follow in MLB and choosing the Yankees. As of right now I'm in the 'watching' stage and I'm enjoying that. I love watching Christiano Ronaldo with the ball, although I also understand he's kind of a puss and goes down a little to easy.
-
So I just ordered the Fox Sports package on Comcast, mainly to see the Premiership games. I'm a total soccer newb, but how does this work -- are they 'in season' right now? Are the games that Fox shows live? Any and all information would be appreciated. I'd love to be able to follow the Premiership and eventually be able to latch onto one team, but if the games aren't live, I figure that's going to be tough. Any good blogs/message boards I can follow? As I said -- any and all information would be appreciated.

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Jul 11, 2007 -> 08:44 PM) But besides that, I think I'm the only one who doesn't like Gears of War I'm not going to say I don't like GoW, but I've played it a couple of times and it hasn't 'done enough' for me to buy it. And this is after five months of my friends telling me that this game is the s*** online and that I'm an idiot for not buying it. So no, you're not alone. I'm going to get Halo 3 for sure, though, and I also might hop back on Rainbow 6 with the new maps.

What did Nintendo announce? I only saw the Microsoft and Sony 'conferences'. Also, is Resident Evil 5 going to be exclusive to PS3?

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 11, 2007 -> 05:56 AM) Nothing to sign-up for. Everything is free right out of the box. The Wii doesn't have many online games right now but I figure that should change by the end of the year. The other online features include a weather channel, an internet browser, a news channel, and a shop channel(Download all the classic games and other things here). There's a couple other kind of gimmicky channels too. Good thing is that they are are always going to be adding new channels it seems. Ugh -- I just saw in the instruction manual that if you don't have a wireless connection, you have to buy an adapter? That's a bummer...
-
B>W, since you seem to be the go-to guy for everything Wii, is there anything I should know features wise about the Wii besides the obvious playing of games? For example, is there anything online related with the Wii, do I have to sign up for anything (ala X-Box Live), and if I do, is it worth signing up for?

In Wisconsin, people call "bags" (and generally anything with the hard A sound) "bay-gs". It's rather annoying. I asked a girl for an explanation about why they say it like that and I was told, "do you call a 'bay-gul' (the bread) a 'bag-gul'?" I proceeded to silently question whether going to Marquette was really the right decision.

I can't wait to hear Ichiro's quote about that one.

"Battle of Thermopylae 2" Oh Tim, that's so f***ing hilaripus. McCarver just gets me every time. I don't know what was worse -- the joke, or the fact that Buck actually laughed.

Watched Green Street Hooligans last night, and while I thought it had the makings of a good movie, it's just tough for me to take Elijah Wood as a 'fighting' character too seriously.

Anybody hear the new Kanye mix, "Can't Tell Me Nothing"? I hear it's 'teh s***'.
