  1. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 08:00 PM) Boy, the Sox have been on such a hot streak, I starting forgetting how fast the wheels fall off around here... Good to see everyone back. But it's almost impossible to point out some very troubling signs without being accused of being a naysayer. The starting pitching on this team in their current state will not cut it, if the aspirstions are to repeat as World Champions. Plenty of time to get some things right, but I am concerned now.
  2. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 12:08 AM) I wonder if Ozzie shouldn't adjust his pitching philosophy a bit and pull his starters short of 100 pitches if they aren't doing well. I am very concerned about the starting pitching. Recall last year when we were struggling, by and large, the pitching held up, for the most part. This year, we are winning as many games, but it's more from our offense, rather than our pitching. Note that what wins in the post season is pitching and defense, not offense. Right now, the current team reminds me more of the 2000 Sox or the 2005 Cardinals. We all know how those stories ended. Maybe the pitchers are a little arm weary. someone earlier suggested a 100 pitch llimit on starters. I wonder, instead, if a six man roration even if it's temporary, may help the starters down the stretch?
  3. I think that by now, we are seeing why this guy has bounced around the majors. The guy has all the talent in the world, but apparently has neither the intelligence or the stones to go along with it. It is maddening to witness the amount of two out two strike runs this guys gives up. Contrast that with Freddy Garcia who manages to find ways to win, even without his best stuff. Frankly, I hope that he can get his win total up so that we can cut our losses on him at season's end.
  4. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ May 28, 2006 -> 02:42 AM) Look, our bullpen did a pretty good job holding them until the 11th. If you think that our bullpen is going to be like it was last year......it's not. We were spoiled last year. Politte and Hermanson had career years last year, and maybe even Cotts. I'm not ready to give up on Nelson yet, because I don't think there is anyone in AAA that is THAT much better. CWSOX45 Look, maybe in a past life I would agree with you, but keep in mind, we won the world series last year, not with hitting but with pitching, pitching and pitching. If we are trying to duplicate last year's accomplishements, our pitching overall has to be as good as last years team. Right now, it's mot. And don't tell me that our improved offense will compensate for the inferior pitching, in the words of Rocky the Flying Squirrel, that trick never works.
  5. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ May 25, 2006 -> 02:49 PM) In 2/3 of an inning he managed to give up 3 runs, make 2 errors, Give up 1 hit, walk one batter and hit another batter. His ERA stands at 27.00. Sadly, I am not making this up Charlotte ended up losing 8-7. Fields went 2/5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI Rogo went 3/5, 2 RBI Redding gave up 4 runs, 10 hits in 5 innings, but had 9 K's. linky This guy had an outing so horrendous in Tampa Bay, I hope he does not get mentally scarred from it.
  6. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ May 28, 2006 -> 01:42 AM) So he gave up a homerun, big deal. I'm not ready to give up on him yet, his slider still looks really good. I really don't think Javier Lopez would do much better. Would you guys rather have Boone Logan back? Jeff Nelson is not to blame for the loss today, you can blame stranding 13 baserunners. This game should have been decided in 9 innings. We're going to have to go with what we have until Kenny gets us help.... Nelson had more zip on fast ball than he does now. He is finished. Yes, we did strand a lot of baserunners today, but note the disturbing trend of late of bullpen collapses in tight games on the road. Sometimes, your bullpen just has to hold the other team down, regardless of how many runners you strand on base.
  7. Watching Nelson pitch today, it is painfully obvious why so many teams passed on him...he has no fast ball left and relies strictly on breaking stuff....A recipe for disaster. I say this guy last two weeks. No, we did not execute offensively at all today, but currently our bullpen will not be able to hold many teams down on the road in close games. Frankly, Jenks is the only guy I trustI know that Kenny is trying to avoid giving up quality prospects to get some good bullpen help, but that is probably what it is going to take.
  8. Has anyone noticed that this is the third series in a row that the Sox have played in a dome? As long as I can remember, these monstrocities have always given us fits. Remember Minnesoata's Timmy Tuefel's fluke inside the park HR off of Richard Dotsun in the '80s ??? I look forward to the open-air of Cleveland.
  9. I think that I noticed his problem in general...While he has great stuff, he seems to more of a thrower than a pitcher in that on rare instances does he ever pitch inside. Last night, on an outside pitch, Troy Glaus hit an opposite field run-scoring double, that in my opinion, changed the momentum of the game. Hawk was commenting on how filfthy the pitch was and how you had to give Glaus credit. This may be true, but there was no way that Glaus could have gotten to that pitch had Vasquez done a better job with his locations of the previous pitches, which were away, away and away.
  10. Options as far as driving routes??? No Brainer.....I would take Lake Shore Drive south. Exit aroound the Museum of Science and Industry and follow the signs to the Skyway. The Skyway will take you south to Interstate 65, which takes you right to Indy. This way you avoid both the Ryan and Route 80.
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) He's employed by espn 1000 not the sox so with the switch he's a goner. To bad too, cause I really liked Bryan. To be honest, I've never even heard of this guy. Isn't it somewhat dissapointing that with the switch in stations and on the heals of winning a WS, the whole Score radio production of the Sox is being staffed with second rate talent? I wish ESPN still had the radio rights.
  12. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) Wow, I don't know where to start. I guess my first question is, when was the last time Kenny got "pantsed" on a deal? Outside of the Todd Ritchie deal, its hard to find a deal where somebody totally got the best of Kenny. Yes, some of his deals didn't work out. But that doesn't mean he was wrong at the time for making them. As far as the part about Kenny waiting for deals to come to him last offseason, I'd like to find out how you know this? All indications were that Kenny sought out the Lee for Podsednik deal. Yes, Thome isn't exactly young, and yes, he did have some health issues last year. But he says he's healthy. Kenny says he's healthy. His physical said he's healthy. And if you base his performance on all the years he was healthy (basically every year before last), the guy should put up his usual big numbers. Many often forget how poor our offense was throughout a good portion of the regular season. We seemed to lack consistant run production and guys who could get on base. A healthy Thome should fill both of these needs. Yes, this is all speculation. But its probably safer to assume that Thome will perform at his normal level or close to it than to assume that these two minor leaguers will amount to anything, or that Aaron Rowand will become more than an average player. I have no problem with letting Aaron go. I think that Brian Andersen in the long term will be a better player. I only think Thome could have been had for less. I don't question is health. I do question his ability to maintain his skill level for the next three years, given his age.
  13. QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 07:36 AM) 2) Basically, Thome is replacing Everett. Anderson is (most likely) replacing Rowand. The philosophy isn't really changing. Just think of it as the same type of ball, with a much more productive Carl Everett. Never thought of that. Good point. I did watch Thome bat a lot last year, however, and I hope you are right. He couldn't get any loft on the ball in the many games I'd watch him. Weak grounders and one hoppers and pop ups. People forget that Thome is 35 years old-an age when bat spead can go south. IMO, this was a terrible deal....Why trade two of your better prospects and ARow for a guy whose health is questionable, but also is old? Trading your best young pitchers only makes sense whern you , A. get something of value in return, and B. have an intention of signing Guys like Buehrle, Garland, Contreras to long term deals. I doubt that will happen anytime soon. It seems as though a world championship hasn't changed Kenny....he still has an infatuation with over-the-hill players and a penchant for over paying to get them. Unfortunately, the rest of the baseball GMs know this which is why they typically pants him on deals. I thought that Kenny had a terrific off-season last year beacuse for once in his life, he was patient and let the deals come to him and not vice versa. Who else were the Phils going to stick Thome with? He had a no-trade contract and indicated that there were only two teams he would play for.
  14. QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 04:02 PM) They already figured out a way to screw it up...Mike North is hosting it! I have no problem with North hosting the show.At least he has a lot of fire and passion about the Sox. Would you rather have Jesse or Lawrence Holmes? That said, the score did screw this thing up already by not tying Rooney up.
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) No offense to Ed.. but I'm likely not going to listen at all. John made the broadcast for me. It wont be the same without him. Same here...Farmer is downright unlistenable.
  16. Two ladies behind me in the mass of people were talking about Soxfest...One says to the other..."I hear that Soxfest is sold out already....We'll have to buy tickets from a scalper". Unbelievable. I never thought that I would ever hear something like that in my life!
  17. QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 02:44 AM) i heard there was too - wud be nice to get a .mp3 of it or something I heard the song and thought nothing of it. Tonight, however, I learned that the song was actually remixed by a friend of mine. I wll ask him how or if it is being distributed.
  18. With the win tonight, the Sox have now won 105 games total, including post season wins. This beats the 104 wins that they won in 1917, whn they won 100 games during the season, and 4 games in the WS. Of course, othe season was only 154 games long, but it's worh noting. Lets get 5 more wins boys!
  19. I have a real problem with inexperienced people in the radio booth. TV is one thing because you can at least see what is happening. Maybe I'm just bitter over losing John Rooney, but it would be so typical for the Sox and the Score to hire someone cheap along a play-by-play guy who in the process of ralking insessantly, describes very little.
  20. QUOTE(chisoxt @ Oct 1, 2005 -> 03:09 AM) I swear to God, How in the hell has Ozzie managed to win 96 games?? I guess I just found my answer.
  21. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 1, 2005 -> 03:08 AM) Why would Pods be bunting on his own with the infield in? I swear to God, How in the hell has Ozzie managed to win 96 games??
  22. Once outstanding on the road, we are now 4-9 in our last 13 road games. Boy, I sure feel great about our chances in Cleveland.
  23. QUOTE(rangercal @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) actually this thread makes me feel better. It can only jinx cleveland Not only that, But I didn't claim that the Tribe would hold first once they got there, but that they would occupy first place next week, albeit briefly.
  24. I believe that the fate of this team is now sealed.....This thing has been a leaking balloon for six weeks now, culminating with the devastating extra inning losses against Minn and LAA, an losing three of four to lowly KC. The question in my mind is not if the Sox will lose the divisional lead but when.... My prediction is that they come out flat against Minn and lose Friday night. Then Santana beats them on Saturday and the Twins finish off the sweep on Sunday. Cleveland will take two of three from Kansas City going into the Sox series trailing by 1.5 games... Then, Cleveland will win the first two games of the series and take over first place by next Tuesday. But the Sox will salvage Wednesday's game and move back into first by a half game. I need to polish my crystal ball to see what will happen the rest of the way.
  25. QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 03:26 AM) I bet PHG is banning left and right at WSI right now. Didn't you know that everything is bright and sunny over at the Flying Sock!!
