QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) Garland is pitching for the Sox Well, he is on the mound anyway.

One of the best GMs in baseball, Terry Ryan of the Twins is reportedly going to resign. The hallmark of just about every player that comes through their system is fundamental soundness. I am not sure if Ryan is being forced out, or if there are other circumstance surrounding his departure. This is a big blow to the Twins. I know this will never happen, but here is a golden opportunity For the Sox to grab one of the sharpest GMs in the game. I just don't have faith in Williams turining this ship around.

I am not sure if this is an appropriate spot for this post, but I practically fell out of my chair when I learned that likey ROTY KC Royal pitcher who has the sixth best ERA among AL starters, and a 14 game winner belonged to the Mets last year. Omar Minaya, the GM of the Mets, is a decent GM but like Kenny, has fallen into the 'let's get a reliever from a last place ball club trap' when he dealt Bannister for the now injured and useless Ambiorix Burgos. The GM of the Royals is a genius.

QUOTE(soxfaninpa @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 07:15 PM) have to say KW. The way he put together this team is risky. Relying on guys who are coming off of injuries e.g Erstad, or have not proven themselves to be succesful major leaguers e.g. Floyd, Masset, Sisco, Aardsma, is a risky proposition. Sometimes taking chances can be extremely beneficial, but when your payroll is @100 mil, you should not be in last place with the majority of your offseason acquistions either being in AAA or having been demoted there. Aging and injury prone with a farm system pretty barren of position prospects, this organization needs some new life breathed into it. Exactly. It's one thing to have several 'projects' in the bullpen, but with this payroll it's downright cheap and foolish.

QUOTE(OilCan @ Aug 26, 2007 -> 10:57 PM) Well, given the fact that KW actually put together the roster for '05, and Ozzie was managing all the right moves, who can blame them? Now you want to bail on them because the lineup can't hit, the bullpen can't put out any fires and the team is in a tailspin? Okay, go do so, but...given the fact that Kenny and Ozzie wants to taste success again, and would like to make the team into something the city can be proud of for years to come, don't expect KW to rest on his laurels. Now he's given notice by the fans, and you better believe that Jerry Riensdorf and the rest of the White Sox management are listening, as in lesser and lesser attendance = no money coming in. I won't give them a 5-yr grace period. You're only successful as what you do now. But to their credit, KW, Ozzie and the rest of the organization did do something that the prior 84 years before 2005 could not. Give them that at least. The lineup can't hit because it is comprised of a combination of one dimensional lineup old and slow and young untalented players put into place by the GM. The bullpen can't pitch and hasn't pitched for two years beacuse of gross misevaluations of talent by, yes, the GM. The misevaluation occurred on two levels, one misjudging the pitchers and two, thinking that Don Cooper was some sort of pitching coach god. While I give credit to Ozzie and Kenny for winning a WS, I do think that it is a loser mentality to be satisifed by that one title, and then watch the team rot the next several years. No I don't expect Kenny to rest on his laurels. I just dont think that he, Ozzie, Cooper or Walker have the smarts to turn this around. Finally, if I were jumping ship, I wouldn't be writing this.
-
I told someone shortly after the Sox won it all in 2005 that one drawback of winning was that we would have to put up with the Kenny and Ozzie show for an eternity. The only way either of these two will go is if iehter or both quits. As I observe this wreckage I regretfully say the same about the coaching staff especially Cooper and Walker. Apparently, this whole organization will be in denial until the attendance starts to dramatically slump, which should be next year, given the awful effort this year
-
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) I'm not too sure that would help, seeing that Kenny Wannestadt is running the show. You may be right. It's only going to help if we draft and SIGN a player commensurate with the draft slot.
-
there are two guys who should not see the light of day on the Sox infield. Jaun Uribe should be gone for good, and Josh Fields who should immediately begin trying out left field. The left side of this infiled absolutley blows. As Hawk says, you cannot hit enough to compensate for bad defense.

How do you rate a pitching/hitting coach's performance?
chisoxt replied to BigSqwert's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 06:49 PM) When our offense blew ass earlier this year a lot of people defended Greg Walker and said that the players are ultimately accountable for their results. Then I look at the disaster of a bullpen and half the starting rotation stinking up the joint. Question is, if the players are accountable for their results then what criteria do you base the pitching and hitting coach's performance? What would it take to get them fired or, in contrast, get them a contract extension? You were reading my mind from about a month ago...I was thinking the same thing. If you base the success of your bullpen on the fact that you have a pitching coach that can take a rag-tag group of arms and turn water into wine, then why should you not hold your other coaches, especially the hitting coach. more accountable? I call bull**** on white sox management on this one. -
QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 05:50 AM) And don't forget MacDougal. He was not beloved in Kansas City because of his wildness. It was truly foolish. We need a reliable veteran like Hermy was. MacD was the hope; but he is truly truly hopeless. Lost in all of this discussion is the fact that the Sox refuse to pay for quality relievers Hopefully that will change next year.

This morning on WSW, beat reporter Joe Cowley raised a good point......that is with all of the bullpen ills that we have been having this year, why haven't the Sox brought this guy up? Would it not make sense to promote, you know, the one releif pitcher at AAA who is actually getting guys out? I know that sometimes teams are hesitant to promote a young guy who is having a breakthrough year in the minors, but instead look to move him up the following season. Otherwise I am at a lost. Signed.... Confused Sox Fan

White Sox vs. Twins, Game 1 of DH, 7/06/07 (L)
chisoxt replied to BearSox's topic in 2007 Season in Review
QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 07:32 PM) This team is SO f***ing hard to watch this year. Farmio said before the game that he was experiencing some shoulder tightness. And Ozzie leaves him in there to rot. Idiot. -
It strikes me as ironic that Kenny will extend an oft-injured bullpen pitcher like McDougal for three years, but refuses to give MB the NTC in his contract. Note to Sox, there are many other ways that you can dole out stupid contracts other than giving players the NTC that Buehrle is seeking. (For additional stupid contracts, see Jose Contreras)

Phil Rogers Details Kenny's Failures
chisoxt replied to SadChiSoxFanOptimist's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 04:11 PM) 2005 was a great year for KW. His plans A and B and probably C were unable to come to fruition and he benefitted from that. He was lucky the Angels waived Jenks. He was lucky the Yankees made a last minute outbid for Wright. He was lucky AJ fell into his lap, he was lucky Kaz Matsui sucked in 2004 causing Iguchi to be available for far less. You can't fault him for being lucky, but that doesn't necessarily make him the baseball genius he thinks he is or several people believe him to be. You get a lot of crap from this board when you disagree with anything KW does. Its sort of like back in the day saying anything bad about Ditka to a lot of Bears fans. The fact is, the White Sox for one reason or another have only lived up to or surpassed expectations 1 time in KW's 7 season reign. He has made plenty of mistakes. For example waiting to make any changes this season is a mistake. It won't show up as one, but it should. Andy Gonzalez shouldn't be on a major league roster let alone batting second or leading off. KW has failed. The minor leagues suck and since he's been GM for 7 seasons, the failure shouldn't all fall on Shaffer. Agreed. I told someone after the 2005 season that one drawback of winning it all that year was that we would have to put up with KW for an eternity. He constant man-crushes for over-the-hill players like Thome, the Alomar Brothers, Everett and Vasquez have made the team older slower, more expensive and injury prone. His minor league system is a joke and has been for years. Please don't throw that BS line about nor having high draft pickes. There are several teams that have consistently finished higher than the Sox the last several years bt flat out have better farm systems(Oakland, Boston and Minnesota). And with the renewed fiscal insanty returing to baseball, there are now noises that the Sox won't budge on giving Beuhrle a five year deal. If you are going to be an organization that doesn't not have the poker chips to play in the high stakes free agent games, you better damn well have a quality farm system. For Williams to recognize this after being on the job for six years is inexcusable. -
QUOTE(POPPY_HIDALGO @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 10:35 AM) 1. It's the Sox! Come on! They are fighters til the last drip of snot off a dogs ass. 2. The Twins made their come back last year and how bout that run the Indians pulled off in 05? It's not like it's never happened in this division before. The Indians will come back to earth and the Tigers just ain't that good. Once these bats wake up it's go time. 3. Ozzie. He won't let this continue. The man has too much heart. 4. Kenny Williams. I think the Sox will be more buyers than sellers come trade deadline. I think Jacque Jones would be a great pick up. He swings a good bat and he hates the Cubs. 5. Josh Fields. This kid looks great. Crede who? Forget about it. It's a new era of 3rd basemen for the Chicago White Sox. The Josh Fields era. It's like Ventura on crack. The kids gonna be great. 6. The fans. We have the best fans in baseball. Look how they've stood by this team. They are still selling out every night and the players recognize that. The team realizes this is about more than a pay check. It's about an entire community banding together. We all need this. We deserve this. 7. It can't get any worse. It has to get better eventually right? 8. Hawk Harrelson. How long before the Hawk sits this bunch down and really tears into them 1 by 1. Like men. It's time to stand up. The Hawk won't watch much more of this before he finally snaps. You can hear the meltdown coming. There's no way that won't fire this team up. 9. Mayor Daley. How long before the mayor sits this bunch down and really tears into them 1 by 1. Like men. It's time to stand up. The mayor won't watch much more of this before he finally snaps. You can feel the meltdown coming. There's no way that won't fire this team up. 10. The players. These are stand up guys who realize that they need to turn things around. A big win to keep from getting swept at home by the Cubs will really bring this group together. This is the kind of team bonding moment that hasn't been there since Rowand left. This is the White Sox last stand and I think they got alot more fighting left in them. When you are finished, please put the keys under the mat and turn off the lights.

Our top hitting prospect will likely be the number overall pick in the 2008 amateur draft, which at this rate will belong to us. I only hope that we can can sign him. Otherwise, we may have to rely on the offspring of our front office.

The Seattle Marieners went from a 93 win team in 2003 to a 99 loss team in 2004. In fact, the 2003 Seattle team had a bit of a tail off in the second half 2003, That team got old fast the next year and the bottom dropped out. It is now 2007 and it has taken them three years to get half way decent. This Sox team is looking very similiar. I expect it will also take a few years to fix the mess we are in.

Well, it has been two weeks since the Sox screwed their fans by raining out a Saturday night game against the D-Rays that could have been played. Recall that was the game that was called at 6:00 pm but rain cleared out of the area completely an hour later. So instead of a playing the game late into the night on that Saturday with a fireworks show after, ticket holders got the screw job and are forced to attend a Monday daygame on the 27th of August, one week after the school year starts. Needless to say, many of those tickets will go unused. I am not the most superstitious person in the world, but I do beleieve in karma. When an organization pulls crap like that they desrve what they get as evidenced by the atrocious record over the last 14 days.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 31, 2007 -> 05:38 PM) Teams that might be looking at Sox players Giants, Dodgers, Angels, Brewers=Joe Crede (although Braun is long-term solution for MIL) Angels=Dye Braves=any starter, Mack and/or Cintron Brewers=Thornton, Logan or Sisco Cubs=will trade outfielders for pitching help Mets=pitching Phillies=bullpen Yankees=pitching Possible targets of interest for the White Sox... Mark Teixeira Dunn Griffey Rich Harden Noah Lowry Jose Capellan--Milwaukee (reliever) Jose Castillo--Pitt. Chris Burke Willy Mo Pena Baldelli Chad Cordero Melvin Mora (OF) This post makes zero sense. This Sox team should be a seller, not a buyer.

i had tickets to the rainout game Saturday night. It is now shceduled as a day game on Monday the 27th. Like 90% of the ppopulation, I work Mondays, and all of the otherd ays of the week. I always thought that tickest from rainouts can be redeemed for any games, no?
-
OK, let me preface this by saying that I live in Oak Park which is a few miles from the park and I realize that the weather conditions there may be different, but here I sit at 8:30 pm and it has stopped raining for a good solid two plus hours. Why did they call this game so soon? I know that there was no Konerko and Crede and Thome are ouchy, but come on! The double headers and lost off days later in the season are piling up. I am not sure if the Sox employ a professional meterologist, or if they just rely on Roger Bossard's big toe for guidance, but this happened once before this year.

QUOTE(zimne piwo @ May 26, 2007 -> 07:14 AM) I'm from the neighborhood, so we went to lots of games when I was growing up. We especially used to go whenever they had cool giveaways for the kids. I was 8 years old when we went to Bat Day 1973 (doubleheader vs. Minnesota, with the largest ever crowd at Comiskey... 55,555). What sucked about it was we got there pretty late and the people in front of us were the last to get bats. I still remember seeing all those people on the catwalks along the scoreboard. Although we missed out on that promo we did get those red bats the following year at "Bat Night" (vs. the Yankees, IIRC), not to mention the t-shirts, those awful plastic jackets (the red one with the Chevy logo on the back and also the black and white one with the English Leather logo on the sleeve), several mugs and lots of other cool stuff. I also remember my father giving me a taste of his Falstaff beer, going to games with my family (including my aunt and my grandmother) during the summer of the South Side Hit Men. One other thing I remember was that season WBBM-TV news did a "Sox Fan or Cub Fan?" poll and despite the Sox leading most of the way it ended up with the Cubs getting more votes. Bill Veeck however gave free tickets to a game at the end of the season to everyone who voted for the Sox. My grandmother picked the tickets up for us and it turned out to be one of the coldest nights I've ever been at a ballgame. I was at that game too. Not to rub it in, but I got a bat! My favorite memory was the previous year in 1972, one of the greatest years for me as a Sox fan, watching Dick Allen torch Sparky Lyle for a three run walk off home run to complete a double header sweep against the Yankees.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 12, 2007 -> 12:59 AM) Unbelievable example of everything that's wrong with our hitters vs LHP on that swing by Dye. He popped up a pitch a few inches away from the dirt. I have a feeling that there will be some 'cap-tipping' tonight.
