  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 10:39 PM) No, I saw. I just thought that it was funny. I cringe every time Kenny swings one of his famous mid season trades.
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 03:55 AM) Swisher sucks with 2 strikes. A little problematic since he always takes the first pitch down the middle.
  3. Something tells me that there is a plane ticket to Charlotte with Adam Russell's name on it waiting for him in the clubhouse.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 07:59 PM) Crede over longoria is a big "whack" as the kids say. The players aren't any smarter than the fans apparently
  5. This team will be dead and buried by the All Star Break PS. had it not been for a fly ball that Gardy Sizemore lost in the sun In KC, they might have blown the lead in 05.
  6. QUOTE (striker62704 @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 09:25 PM) Crede should have bunted Swisher over. Bad move Ozzie. When has ever Crede bunted ANYBODY over??
  7. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 01:32 AM) Never been a fan of Kenny. I almost came around after 05, but didn't. However, for as many bad moves as he's made, he's made plenty of good moves. I am the same way. I have been critical of his handling of the farm system, but, with the trades for Floyd, Danks, Masset, Quentin and the signing of Ramieriz, he has bought a few years of time to build the system back up. His off-season moves last year were reminiscent of the off season prior to the WS year, when he made a lot of under the radar deals that turned into gold. I was thinking the other day how the Iguchi signing was similiar the signing of Alexi Ramieriz....Remember how in both cases, a lot of other teams passed up on both guys, who would end up being critical pieces at second base.
  8. After 23 games last season, the Sox were 12-11 this year, they are 13-10. More disturbing, like last year when the bullpen got off to a great start and fizzled, there is a similair pattern this season. Also, what is it with playing at home?? Last year we started with a 5-7 record and this year 6-6? Even the games that we win at home are an intensive struggle. I beleive there is better talent on this years team than last years, but some of the same red flags are starting to pop up.
  9. QUOTE (rafacosta @ Apr 26, 2008 -> 07:27 PM) Only his defense? Another year he starts slow and will probably heat it up when we are 5 games or more out in June/July. Only 5 out by July? I would take that.
  10. QUOTE (frankie5angels @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 01:48 AM) I like having Swisher on our team, I think he was a great pickup, but I wish we had a legitimate leadoff hitter who could bunt and had some speed. This team has no speed whatsoever. Truth be told, I think that we are going to regret this trade. I know that I am in the monority on this, but I am just not a swisher fan.
  11. QUOTE (frankie5angels @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 01:23 AM) Shades of 2007 the last 2 nights for the offense. Is it me or does it seem like we play so flat at home...Even the games we win are nail biters or games that we trail much of the way. It also seems as though the attendance is way down this year and there is not as much energy in the park...last night, only 25,000.
  12. QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 01:21 AM) PK and Dye out on 2 extremely soft outs. Why do I get this feeling that there is going to be some 'Cap Tipping' tonight?
  13. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 02:14 AM) how many runners stranded is that? yikes... I am sorry but this is the same crap from last year...poor situational hitting, poor defense, pitchers giving up runs after two outs....to think that our payroll is how much? For this crap?
  14. QUOTE(daa84 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 02:09 AM) actually really only C is a sabermetric nightmate I also forgot D. -too old
  15. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 02:05 AM) I have trouble finding any team with 4 slower players than Thome, Dye, AJ, and Konerko. This team is a sabermetric nightmare: A. Too slow B. Too many strikeouts C. Too few walks D. Naive GM who refuses to recognize A, B and C
  16. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) My main argument here is that management has no gameplan. Now, I understand Kenny holds onto the weird notion that the White Sox are going to compete this year. That's fine, delusional GMs eventually get fired. However, have you ever seen a true title contender have so many question marks heading into a season? Absolutely not. Yeah, I jumped around a lot, but this is a lot of stupidity for one offseason. If the White Sox do what we think they will (hover around .500 or worse) with their 3-5 starters all being huge question marks and a lineup that still tries to only hit homeruns aside from its 33 year old shortstop, what will we have to show for it? I believe another relatively high draft pick that we can combine with this year's high pick to trade for another guy who will help Mr. AARP Jim Thome and co. flounder toward a .500 finish. Maybe we'll throw Poreda into that trade as well. /rant I agree with you on about every point. Kenny is a poor GM with a lifetime contract. I do not understand how most people can favor a trade for Swisher for top prospects, while many of these same people project the Sox as a .500 team at best and out of contention. At some point, your farm system will run out of players. Then what?
  17. QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 04:35 PM) 80 wins I believe Can someone please explain something to me?....It seems as thoough most people peg the Sox at 77-85 wins and out of contention, yet most everyone loves the trade in which are two best prospects were traded for a player that for all intents and purposes, can't help the team win a championship. Would it not have made sense just to hold onto the prospects and started the rebuilding process? Who caresif the team wins 68 games or 82 games, the result (going to the playoffs) that matters does not change.
  18. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 01:58 AM) Bull. San Diego covered the spread today. (and I know what you mean, but I'm of course just talking about actual betting, with the spread and all that fun stuff) Also, kickers are a lot like relief pitchers...they are the last thing on everyones priority list but usually the most notable deficiency at crunch time.
  19. QUOTE(Jeremy @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 08:18 AM) No offense to anyone but I think you'll almost always find most Sox fans in favor of a prospects for major leaguers deal. First of all, despite Sox fans' reputation as pessimists, most fans I've encountered defend the overwhelming majority of Kenny's moves. Look no further than the Chris Young trade: the consensus in baseball is that Young is a highly promising young player and we got hosed in the deal but many White Sox fans still adamantly defend the deal. People moan about Young's OBP even though he improved markedly in the second half of his rookie year and posted a .358 OBP in the minors. More importantly though, Sox fans seem very willing to throw their support behind any deal where "unproven" prospects are deals for established players. People in this thread seem to be explicitly saying they believe a prospects for major leaguers deal is always a good deal, which I find completely mind boggling. Every All-Star and Superstar player was a prospect once and most of them where highly touted prospects like DLS and Gio. The typical fan reaction doesn't surprise me. It would also not surprise me to hear some of these same fans pissing and groaning the next few years because we suck and we can't improve ourselves through the farm system. I voted a resounding NO on this deal and here's why.....At some point, there comes a time when you have to survey they competition, be honest with yourself, and admit that it will be difficlut to win a championship with the current group of players. I believe we have arrived at that point. First of all, does anyone actually think that the performancesof Danks and Floyd instill confidence that they will be capable fourth and fifth starters? And isn't obviopus that Jose Contreras better days are well behind him? That leaves two, yes two, reiliable starters in your rotation. Now for that rat's nest of a bullpen.... The only real upgrade here is a Liebrink - A guy who Kenny overpayed for and is on the downside of his carreer. Frankly, this guy got lit up every time he came into a meaningful situation last year in Milwaukee. I hope he pans out because we have hoim for four years. I wonder if one year of Latroy Hawkins would have made more sense. If we had a lights out pitching staff, this deal would have made more sense. But we don't. I had pitted hopes that Gio could have been a safety net if Danks or Floyd crap the bed. As it stands now, we are counting on those few quality starts Danks had at the beginning of the year, and those few good starts from Floyd at the end to give us hope. This doesn't even address an aging core of a slow-footed veteran lineup, and that after the Swisher deal we now have two left fielders to go along with our two shortstops and two third basemen. I hope that if this all blows up, we find a new GM ASAP.
  20. QUOTE(ptatc @ Dec 31, 2007 -> 07:13 PM) Most people just realize that a GM who usually fields a winning team and wins a World Series is a successful GM and fans should give him a chance until he has shown that he can't win. I think that you answered your own question in that we will probably change GMs when it's clear the team can't win. But at what point is that?. Obviously, Kenny won't be fired this season, but say, next year, if we lose 90-100 games, if our young players like Richar, Danks, Floyd, etc regress, and, if the young guys we traded like Carter and Cunningham flourish, does Kenny get the ax? I say yes. Keep in mind that winning a WC should not give one a lifetime contract. At what point do we stop resting on our laurels? If we are still satisfied with a recent WC, why even watch the team at all anymore?

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 10:30 AM) I'd love to land Damon. I'll take Burrell as well but I'd be so freakin happy to land a legit leadoff hitter with out trading away one of our pitchers. Don't people realize that Damon's skills are diminishing? Like Kenny, many of us don't realize that star players like this are not what they once were, often have large contracts that diminsh payroll felxibility, and spend lots of time on the DL. NO THANKS!!!!
  22. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 01:41 PM) I heard that the Sox expect to lose Hahn but aren't worried because they have Harold Baines set to accept the position. Let's assume that you are serious in your assessment....The Sox might not be worried but I would be. Harold Baines would have no business taking on a job like that.
  23. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Oct 16, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) LOL...you may have caught them on a slow day. being banned after 1 post is insane. And I believe you, it probably wasn't crap ANYONE was upset about except one of their idiot moderators. And heck, the mod probably wasn't mad about it either, just had a banning fetish. When you read some of the venom spewed by the moderators in some of the crap that they write (in particular the computer geek and the site's founder), one wonders whay they aren't banned as well.
  24. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 07:52 PM) LOL at the list of 'banned' from WSI. That site is ridiculous. I got banned 3 times and after the third time I just said screw that place and left. I can't remember why I got banned the first time, but it came without warning of any kind (none of my bannings were preceeded by a warning). The 2nd time I got banned it was because someone brought up politics in a thread (which is forbidden) and I RESPONDED to that poster to get the political crap out of the thread and was banned. The mere fact that I responded to a political comment (I quote the other posters post) though i didn't make one myself was why I got banned. Yep...Count me among the ban-ees as well...Ironically, that site has a fabulous set-up. The Nostalgia is great, the interviews are good and some of the forums like Talking baseball, What's the score? and the Parking lot are worth reading on occassion. Ironically, the hardest thing to do over there is objectively discuss White Sox baseball. Part of the fun of being a fan is to criticize and discuss bone-headed moves like bad trades or management desicions that negatively affect the team. Instead, insipid things like "Where the best churros stand is" seem to be the norm over there. I still lurk over there, but I noticed that many of the regulars over there from a few years back (whom I enoyed reading) are not to be found. Too bad.
  25. Any chance the Cardinals will interview Kenny? Nevermind, Hahn would pobably beat him out for the job anyway.
