  1. QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) I think there's 1 out? Crisp bounces out 3-1, full count to Cora.
  2. QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) He wrote a different article just a few days ago saying we won't be in the playoffs because we have no offense. I'd love to meet Jay in a dark alley... How about in a parking lot! Bring along an old wheelchair, some crazy glue and lighter fluid. We'll 'Freddy Lounds' him. :finger
  3. MLB audio highlights coming on for anyone who wants to re-live the goosebump thing.
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) The Sox luck changed when I got my girlfriend on the phone at the start of the bottom of the ninth inning. I'm giving her all the credit, as I watched this whole game without s*** happening. I couldn't get to a TV until the bottom of the 9th. Unbelievable. I had to follow the whole rest of the game on the radio. Every pitch thrown by Wickman was straight, except for the double by Rowand, which had lots of sink on it. I still don't believe what I just witnessed. All Wickman was missing was a little goatee and and a flat stomach.
  5. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 10:36 PM) Laugh now, cry later when we get owned by Mullholland. Ouch.
  6. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) Non-Sox goes in the Sports Bar. Excuse me. :banghead
  7. Ichiro wth an infield single, Reed with a walk, Beltre with a 2 run double, Sexton with a ringing run scoring double, then Boone with the first out advancing Sexton to 3rd. Ibanez up. Heh heh.
  8. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) Apparently Billy Koch is so bitter about his release from Toronto that he bought a seat behind the Blue Jay dugout and is decked out in D-Rays gear with a foam finger. I wish I was making this up I watched the game for a few innings over supper. For me it was the Bule Jays telecast. I was a bit occupied, but I thought the announcer described it as Billy keeping a promise made to a bunch of kids when he was signed by the Jays. He lives in the Tampa region, so when he signed he made a promise to get a bunch of kids some tickets. then poor old Billy gets cut. He kept his promise and showed up in a Tampa shirt with a large foam finger. The Toronto anouncers thought it was pretty funny. Everytime they focused on Koch he seemed to be having a great time yapping it up with some fans. The general feeling was not one of seriousness by anyone.
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 06:53 PM) Oh, I agree. I'm not basing this on his stats but just the way he worked the ball all around the field, hitting line drives and not just trying to hit the ball out of the park. Punch and Judy, difference of opinion, agree to disagree We probably aren't even disageeing. I, too, preferred the 'spraying' Carlos Lee style of hitting. As far as all the talk of the Sox being unselfish as a unit, I am heartened. We'll see how far it pans out. How many of these guys actually practice bunting. When I was a little leaguer, an almost embarrasing number of decades ago, we ended our individual hitting with a few mandatory bunts. I would love to think the need to sharpen and hone this valuable and time honoured skill is not beneath any current major leaguer. I suspect differently. If they are facing a truly dominating pitcher in a low 1 run game in the late innings, I would like to think anyone could, if need be, get the runner over to 3rd with 1 out. The day I leap out of my chair and threaten my cat with a heart attack will not be when Paul Konerko hits a 3 run shot with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th, but rather when he pulls off a suicide squeeze to bring in the winning run. That would be savvy, exciting and smarter than potentially ending the threat with one swing by hitting into a double play.
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) That was the carlos lee i wish i saw all of his career. He was a GREAT hitter during that streak, cause he was using all directions of the field not overswinging, taking what was given to him. After that streak he went to walker saying he wanted to hit more homeruns, that's always bothered me. He started hitting his fair share of homeruns but he was back to popping up a lot of pitches and overswinging in key situations where he'd only care about hitting a homerun, that was always my biggest problem with carlos. To my way of thinking, even his non-homerun, high average stretch of games, does not necessarily mean he was not thinking selfishly. He was 'seeing the ball' great and making solid contact. But he still might have gotten many hits through the left side, when the situation dictated going the other way. When you are on a roll and you hit the ball 'where it is pitched', then all the power to you. But sometimes you have to force it the other way to the detriment of your average. I am not saying this is what happened. I am just pointing out that statistics alone do not point to sefishness or otherwise.
  11. QUOTE(Spiff @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 12:46 AM) Smallball can definitely be boring, but it is fulfilling when they do it right. I'd rather they be boring and win than be exciting and lose. Besides, a sac fly when it's close and late is pretty exciting to me. Watching home runs on the high-light reels is like watching basketball slam dunks. Boring. Scoring any other way involves actual running. Running is more exciting. I find triples, home runs and suicide squeezes more exciting than home runs. I'm thrilled at the prospect of a more varied offense.
  12. QUOTE(Hall of Famer @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 05:26 PM) THANK YOU RICHIE SEXTON!!!! Twins getting rocked already 3-0. You can say that again. Sexton with a second dinger. Make that 5-0 in the 3rd.
  13. One batter over the minimum for the Tribe. Buehrle
  14. Through 8 innings, Buehrle has thrown 102 or 104 pitches, depending on the source.
  15. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Apr 2, 2005 -> 05:38 PM) I was going to say that he has hit a ton this spring, but that's like 2000.00 so 650 average sounds more like it. I think it comes out to .527. And Farmio said he has a .535 OBP, so it follows he is up there hacking.
  16. Pods with the swinging strike. At least they made it mildly interesting. 4-2 final.
  17. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2004 @ Apr 2, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) Does that bring his average up to about .650 now? He's 29 for 55.
  18. Uribe lines the ball to left and Ozuna scores, as he was on the move. Uribe at 2nd. Tying run up. It's Pods.
  19. P. Lopez flies out to left. One bullet left. Uribe is it.
  20. R. Casanova leads off with a long fly to one of the outfielders. 'Babe' Ozuna up.
  21. R. Branyon follows with a forward K. Top of the 9th. Time for a 3 run dinger.
  22. Spivey thrown out trying ot steal third. Then Retino groundes out 6-3. 2 out, man on second 4-1 Brewers.
  23. Wes Helms with a single up the middle (just out of the reach of Uribe). 1st and 2nd, run scored.
