  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 7, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) The dirt around home plate is like concrete. DJ missing the fact that Uribe dropped the ball on the steal attempt. Yea, I was wondering how they were going to address that after yesterday.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 7, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) There's that concrete home plate area coming into play again. Not sure, but I think that you went clean off home plate.
  3. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 7, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) Uribe walks with 2 outs. The Sox are really making this guy throw a lot of pitches. Nice approach by Joe there. Hang wif 'em.
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 7, 2005 -> 02:03 PM) You guys must be googling your asses off. Dave, throw your glove on the mound, see you later, the Sox are dead, Stieb. God what a lot of tight movement his pitches had.
  5. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 7, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) Ok .... I've thought of another Sox-Jays trivia question. Who was the Toronto ace that tried to make a comeback with the Sox? Dave Stieb.
  6. QUOTE(KWs OK for Me @ May 7, 2005 -> 01:43 PM) SSTTTTREEEETCH The HELL with solo shots. YEA!!!
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 7, 2005 -> 01:40 PM) You sound like me. Scheduled my vacations this year to see the Sox.
  8. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 7, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) I believe he hit two. But it was the Jays initial game as an expansion team. Maybe, 1977? Sounds right. After that first game, I drove from my home in Ottawa to Toronto to catch the rest of the series. For the next 10 years, I was in attendance for every Sox - Blue Jay game in Toronto. I grew up in Toronto, so I always co-ordinated Sox visits with my own.
  9. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 7, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) Well, that's a 24 pitch inning for Garland. I hope he settles down. How does his control look? Looks OK. Even with a 4 pitch walk and an 0-2 pitch down the middle.
  10. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 7, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) A bit of between innings trivia ... Who is Doug Ault? What's special about him in Jays vs Sox history? Game number one for the Jays against the Sox. Was it a 3 homer game?
  11. One ininning done. We got the lead and Garland looks to have good stuff. All is good.
  12. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 6, 2005 -> 10:33 PM) Come on, dude. 22-7. Whoops! The Blue Jay announcers were downplaying the Sox start quite a bit. Not being able to make sense of it, they referred to the 'weak' Central, as opposed to the 'powerful' East. Makes me hope the Sox can sweep more than ever. If that is possible.
  13. I'm not, by the way, suggesting that Timo Perez should be piece of a championship puzzle. But he does fit into Ozzie's multifaceted baseball strategy. The oppostion doesn't know what he is going to attempt. As opposed to the past when we were loaded with sluggers and station to station base running. Timo didn't get it done. And if he is sacrificed when Frank gets back, then I won't lose any sleep. But the pressure offence is doing it's job. So many complaints, yet we are 22 and 8.
  14. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ May 6, 2005 -> 10:14 PM) No it's not "which is easier." It's completely "which has the better chance of scoring the run" With Timo at the plate, I go with the bunt.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ May 6, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) The problem with that play by Timo was that with Everett on 3b, and not breaking on the pitch, there's almost no way he would be able to score even with the best bunt ever. Timo tried to be too cute, but he did it on the wrong field and with the wrong personnel on the bases. I don't consider Everett slow. And all he has to do is get it by the pitcher. I have more faith in him accomplishing that then driving the ball to the outfield.
  16. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ May 6, 2005 -> 10:06 PM) Drag bunt with Carl on 3rd doesn't guarantee you score the run. Well hit fly ball does. But the point is which is easier. What percentage of attempted 'well hit fly balls' never reach there destination. It should be easier to put the ball on the ground. Of course the hitter's skillset enters into the equation. And Timo is a good bunter.
  17. I feel like the devil's advocate. I for one like the decisision making of Timo. He just didn't execute. Shouldn't it be easier to get a ball down on the ground by drag bunting like he attempted than to drive a ball into the outfield? And I also stand by Ozzie's feel for when to go to the pen. We are 21 and 7, with a lead in the 8th of game 29.
  18. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ May 6, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) No it can't. Go check out baseball prospectus, and they'll talk about pitcher abuse points. When it comes down to it really is about pitch count. Agreed. But the pitch count loses meaning when not taken over time. I'm sure that if he feels strong, once in awhile is OK.
  19. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 6, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) It's not that we don't trust his stuff, it's that we don't trust his arm not falling off. I'm sure he indicated and showed that he still felt strong. No way he throws that number of pitches start after start. But once in a while if his strength is there is OK. This automatic embracing of a number can be taken too far.
  20. Nothing but complaints and he gets out of the inning. Hernandez is one gritty SOB. And it didn't look to me like he was losing it.
  21. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 6, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) LOL, no offense. Just seemed fitting. cheers
  22. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 6, 2005 -> 09:17 PM) f***ing Canadians don't know how to take care of a field. A field crew screwed up. No need to get to express nationalistic prejudice.
  23. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 2, 2005 -> 11:24 PM) This is not about what type of pitcher Jon is. When he strikes out someone, he's still going to be a groundball pitcher on the next pitch. But a strike out is better than a groundball for a flyball pitcher, is better than a groundball for a groundball pitcher. Isn't that obvious? I don't think it is obvious if the groundball gets a double play. And what of the obvious advantage to getting someone out or 2 outs on one pitch. I would also think it would be obvious that infielders behind sinderballers would be kept on their toes a little better. Admittedly, if the hitter does not put the ball into play, then he is less likely to do any damage. But, for me, that is looking at the small picture. Over the course of the whole game, I would prefer to have a sinkerballer in my corner.
