QUOTE(YASNY @ May 28, 2005 -> 04:33 AM) Oh hell. If Frank comes up and goes 0-4 in his first game, 70% of the posters will be screaming for him to be sent back down. 10% will blame KW for it. 10% will blame Ozzie. 5% will b**** because we cut Timo. The rest of us will be rolling our eyes as we read all the BS. I hear ya

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 28, 2005 -> 03:51 AM) BMAC is going to be an awesome pitcher for this team. Like you said, he's got to learn to keep the ball down more and he's got to add some muscle to his frame. I think one of the main things he is going to have to do, to be effective, is even more simple than putting on weight and keeping the ball down. The Rangers had their confidence level ratcheted up before he threw his first pitch. They were way too comfortable. You've got to buzz some of their hitters when they are standing there, chomping at the bit. My guess is you will see a lot more 'purpose' pitches coming from Garland and Buerle over the next couple of days. Get them on their collective heels.

GAME THREAD 5-27-2005 SOX VS RANGERS

QUOTE(He_Gawn @ May 27, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) We start to lose and some of you guys act like f***ing idiots. No kidding, the reponse to this is a little much. It's taken 49 games to receive a s*** kicking. Some hitters are struggling (against good pitching) and Brandon needs to have a few more starts under his belt to realize he has to keep the hitters honest by brushing them off the plate. I don't think our hitters are as bad as they have looked lately. The main thing is don't jump off a bridge, just yet, and with a positive, aggresive attitude, go after them tomorrow. -

The thing about Frank is he won't swing at balls. If he comes back as old Frank, I would like to see this aspect of his hitting become a bit infectious. Cause right now, if I am facing the Sox, I am not throwing very many 2 strike pitches in the strike zone. As bad as they were tonight at swinging at pitches out of the strike zone, the first game of the series was even worse. -

It seems like an inordinate number of hitters on this team swing at balls in the dirt. -

He didn't groove that fastball. It was on the inside corner. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 26, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) But Cleveland had 6 people last year. It wasn't because they were being represented. Well the other misleading fact about being picked is that it usually means you are having a solid first half of a season. Anyway, he is 24, has an ERA under the league average, has a terrific arm, has made the all-star team (if you like) and people rag on him. It sure wouldn't surprise me if he becomes the dominant pitcher poeple expect of him before he reaches 30. The trouble with very early success is that people tend to expect the second comeing of Cy Young. It isn't that easy. -

Radke just imploded with a 3-run lead in the 7th. 4-4 now with a man on third and no outs. Our friend J.C. Romero is in now. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 26, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) 3 doubles in a row by Cora, Belliard, and Sizemore and then a triple by Blake. No outs for Hafner! 4-4 tie game now! Imagine not getting the lead run in from 3rd with nobody out. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 26, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) But Garland wasn't picked as an all-star last year (Over Buehrle and Shingo, I might add) I don't put that much stock in being picked an all-star. Every team needs to be represented and there are so many teams -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 26, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) Exactly what Jabroni said. BTW, I've been wondering what your avatar is. Michael Bates of "A Clockwork Orange" fame. I actually agree with you that he hasn't lived up to expectations. Yet. But he is only 24. And the same could have been said about Jon Garland. And as high as his ERA has been, it has, each and every year, been below the league average. -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 26, 2005 -> 08:13 PM) Wasn't this supposed to be the year where he cements himself as one of the best in the league? In his defense he is coming off an injury. -
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 26, 2005 -> 01:08 AM) What exactly is the story on that guy? How long till this kid gets back to AAA? It seems like he has flat out dominated in AA and its not like our AAA team is stacked with pitching prospects... Corwin had Tommy John surgery. Before that he was a big time prospect. Lot's of velocity and a great curveball. He wouldn't be the first guy to recover from such a procedure. For all of the Sox arm problems, we are due for a good story.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 26, 2005 -> 12:25 AM) That's a mistake, if that's true. Marte should be brought in for the first two hitters of next inning. He has a better chance than anyone on our team in getting those two lefties out. Agreed - to a point. Something about his work last night (2 innings) makes me worry we would see the "wild" Marte. -

With Pods coming home, you have a huge margin of error on the squeeze - just get it down. -

I wonder how Shields is at holding runners. C'mon Scotty Po. -
This is one instance where it worked to the pitcher's advantage that he was a newbie. The Sox swung at too many pitches out of the strike zone. I think they should be able to recognize the sliders and change ups that end up at their shoe tops a little better the next time around. But he still pitched a great game and the Sox were outhit 13 to 5. So it was not a cheap win for the Angels. When Jon gets the ball up a bit he can give up some hits. And on the rare occasion we hit the ball hard tonight, it was at someone. Let's get 'em tomorrow. That's the thing with this club, they don't hang there head like in years past and they should come out fighting.

I thought Santana looked exceptionally sharp. The only hting that disappointed me was the number of balls out of the strike zone that we swung at. Just about everybody was at fault.
