  1. i don't know all the details, but i think the red sox gave schilling some ridiculous perks too.
  2. pysical distress? how is it physical distress? man, that is ridiculous... oops, i used the word "man", i hope that doesn't offend any women. i sure women think it is ridiculous too.
  3. i think the royals don't have enough pitching, especially in their starters. i don't know about juan gonzalez, i can't help but see another season ending injury in him this year. i honestly wouldn't be suprised if they didn't hit .500. the twins will be about their pitching. they don't have the bullpen they did last year, and that could hurt if they don't get quality starts. i'm betting on santana having a good year, you never know with radke, and the rest of the rotation i think is a question too. if you remember the starting pitching improved dramatically after the all star break, and they won the division. didn't shapiro think the indians were on schedule for competing in 05 or 06? they could be the suprise team though, if their pitchers develop. so i think the sox have as good a chance as any, after that i think we're screwed.
  4. they need to change something, cause what they are doing now sure isn't working. it seems like reinsdorf is happy just accepting that the cubs are the team in chicago. and that won't get us anywhere. ownership needs to give a rats ass about the team, and they don't.
  5. yes, a thursday fan, awesome band
  6. agree on burkett over erickson. erickson is a 35 year old pitcher coming off tommy john and doesn't look all that interesting to me.
  7. hmmm. i don't know? he is just coming off tommy john surgery, and he is 35. it usually takes around 1.5-2 years to recover from tommy john. i remember erickson being a sinker ball pitcher. i don't know if 87-89 will cut it unless he has some sort of change up. i don't know if he is worth more than a minor league contract right now, if a bidding war starts i don't think we want to outbid anyone.
  8. what about John Burkett. he is still available and might be had for cheap. he could take a spot in the rotation and dw in the pen. his numbers weren't that spectacular last year but he can pitch plenty of innings and wouldn't be bad at the end of the rotation. maybe he can play a sandy alomar jr. role to some of our younger pitchers too.
  9. i'm trying to be optimistic. the twins lost a lot of bullpen depth, and their starting pitching is only ok. they sunk way to much cash into shannon stewart and traded away aj. the royals aren't going to have a season like last year. they pretty much fell apart the second half. their starting pitching is sketchy at best, the bullpen is ok, but they really like grimsley and he isn't that good and they don't have a closer. the sox on the other hand i think will do better than last year. our offense is fine and we have the best pitching in the division. if we can only beat the tigers this year we should win the division. i did find a good thing to say about 0 though... he only blew 2 saves, so although his numbers don't look that impressive and suggest he won't do all that well... he got the job done. thats about as good as i can do though
  10. k/bb ratio is terrible, very poor bb/ip ratio = poor control = koch career whip is 1.7, gives up quite a few hr's for the low amount of innings pitched, which is another thing, can't go 2 innings or even 1 1/3, looks like 1 is all you get out of him. i hate to be pessemistic, but those stats aren't too impressive. especially since hitters probably have better plate discipline here.
