  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 02:22 PM) I feel we hear this about every Olympics/World Cup and nothing is ever done. And nothing will be done. There's too many logistical issues. It'll be in Rio, come hell or high water... or incomplete facilities.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 01:52 PM) Again appropriate. http://xkcd.com/1357/ LOVE IT
  3. Forgive me for paraphrasing, i didnt catch the quote word for word: 'If a Clipper is under contract and doesnt feel comfortable playing for the team, we will work with'
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 01:06 PM) I am in no way defending him or what he said, but does anyone else have a major issue with him being fined for comments made in private that someone illegally recorded without one party being aware? To me, the legality of such a thing seems a bit tenuous Yea, I'm curious how the legality of the recording comes into play.
  5. Rumor is indefinite suspension and $5million fine. Looks like he will retain ownership, for now.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 12:26 PM) I strongly doubt this. If he were gambling or not paying his bills, they may be able to do something like that, but if they strip him of ownership, they are merely forcing him to sell the team and they would take controlling interest in it. I'm no legal expert, but just taking a $1 billion piece of property from someone seems to be theft property. I think the legal part of this is that it's a "franchise". I dont know how property vs franchises work.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 12:04 PM) Until the team is sold. Who do you think is going to get that money? The phrase "strip Sterling of his ownership" makes me think the NBA would have 100% ownership and would be the recipients of the cash.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 11:26 AM) The guy is a scumbag POS, but you can't take his property from him (which sounds awful in context, but I am obviously talking about the Clippers franchise). The NBAs constitution says you can take the franchise from him if there is a 3/4ths vote by the owners. How NBA could deliver knockout blow to Clippers owner Donald Sterling
  9. "The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of #StarWarsVII" http://starwars.com/news/star-wars-episode...-announced.html And the entire internet just broke.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) The oddball sports are the hard one to find venues for. LA probably would be the best, because they might still have some of the venues for 1984 still around. Honest question: How up-to-date is Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum? I know USC still plays there, but has it been modernized at all? And, for the minor "oddball sports", do those facilities still exist? Sports like Canoeing and Cycling have pretty specific facilities. Many of the other sports can put in college basketball areans and other minor sports facilities.
  11. I'm a bit surprised we havent heard a few towns say they are working on a contingency plan.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 10:17 AM) Any predictions on Silvers action today? I think "indefinite suspension while investigation is done" Sterling wont last long, even without major sanctions. The Clippers will have no sponsors. Doc Rivers is rumored to be leaving the team after the season if Sterling is still around. Players will demand to be traded or released. It's going to be pretty for him. That being said, I think Silver will very seriously look at the "nuclear" option of taking the team from him of he doesnt agree to sell ASAP. If I'm Silver, I dont want Sterling to be able to sell the team. He'll make 100s of millions of dollars by selling it. Leave him with nothing.
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 10:13 AM) So which US city ends up bailing out the IOC and organizes an Olympics in less than 2 years? LA seems the most logical. I wonder if NY/NJ could do it, and they have more up-to-date facilities (Barclays Center, MetLife Stadium) Or, maybe even the bay area: San Francisco, Oakland, Santa Clara (Levi's Satdium)
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 08:39 AM) Sorry to hear about her grandmother. Also - you sure you want to do that? thanks. yea, we're sure. It's a long term proposition. We know the house will need a lot of work over time. But, it's livable while we renovate. The land is the part I am not too sure on. We dont need it, but we're not going to sell it off either. I love the 2-4 acres the main house properly is on, but the other 10 acres are not important to me. Mostly woods and marginally useful land.
  15. Having seen, and loved, Cloverfield... i kind of feel like I've already seen Godzilla.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 09:31 PM) Got one in Lombard! Tempting, believe me, I'd love to get out of my current job. But, my wife's grandmother recently died and we're trying to move out there and buy her estate (to keep it in the family). 15 acres of mostly unfarmable land and a farm house.
  17. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 03:04 PM) I would leave this place for Texas, Missouri, Arizona, Tennessee or Montana, but wife won't go. She MIGHT accept Missouri, but not at this moment. I'm job hunting in IA (near Iowa City) for jobs. We're trying to move to Iowa in the next year or so. PS: Anyone have any leads on desktop support IT positions near Iowa City?
  18. Now things have gone too far.... Verizon location tracking will now follow customers from mobile to desktop
  19. The Blackhawks tied it up JUST in time to allow them to give up a bad late goal.
  20. I am in love with this podcast: Night Attack Not Safe For Work
  21. My fun fact for the day, in honor of the 100th anniversary of Wrigley Field: The defunct Chicago Whales of the Federal League and the Chicago Bears of the NFL have won more championships in Weeghman Park/Wrigley Field than the Chicago Cubs. The Chicago Whales ceased operations in 1915. If you want to steal this: credit my twitter account Tweet 1 Tweet 2
