Field Turf at Soldier Field?
HuskyCaucasian replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) I've heard that because of the soccer games played at Soldier Field they can't play on field turf. The soccer games have to be on grass. FIFA OKed field turf -
Gene Wojciechowski is not from, nor has ever lived, in Chicago. He clearly has NO idea on the sports history of Chicago. It's not even worth talking about.
-
I thought about this a little over a year ago and I've heard it brought up several times over the last month on the radio, so I thought we could talk about it here.
-
TPM- To get people like Rep. Wilson off their backs, Sens. Baucus and Conrad have decided to toughen up the illegal alien provisions in the senate bill to address Rep. Wilson's concerns.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 09:05 AM) I agree with the applause after every damn line, whoever is speaking. Stop that and the speech be over in 15 minutes. AMEN!! (oh good Lord, we agreed on something!)

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 07:58 AM) I'm now going to go find out where his district is, and see who his likely opponent will be in 2010. ME! jk
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 07:44 AM) I'm betting he goes, and I think you are right, Obama may be the difference maker here between Chicago and Rio. ohhh man do i wish McCain had won. lol

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 10:20 PM) I guess I am the only one who remembers Bush being booed during the state of the union? I am still trying to determine if I consider booing acceptable or not. It;s kind of the anti-applause. I need to ponder it a bit more.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 10:04 PM) What in the f*** does this have to do with anything I am arguing it's wrong to disrespect the president and he's saying that's hypocritical because he thinks by Obama disagree with bush's policies that is disrespecting the president. But my argument is that it's not disrespectful to disgree on policy... but it IS disrespectful to heckle the president because you are heckling the position, not the policy.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 09:58 PM) Obama himself has spent the last two years disrespecting Bush, don't feed me that crap. Bush's policies. Not that man.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 09:54 PM) That is complete crap. W got zero respect, even from Congress. He got respect for authority (ie they shook his hand, greated him, listened respectfully), not respect for his crappy ideas.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 09:52 PM) After the 8 years of W, it is funny to see that in a Democratic thread. I dont think Bush was ever yelled at during a speech to congress. Many hated him and thought he did a REAL bad job, but you still respect him. EDIT: Although, i cant say that with 100% athority because Bish became so unlisenable the last few years I refused to watch his state of the union.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 09:51 PM) I'm sure worse has happened before. But it does give the talking heads an interesting point to focus on. and it does NOT help the GOP cause when they come across as hecklers, rather than productive negotiators.

QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 09:05 PM) Yah that moment reminded me of Canada in a way too. But of course this joint session is nothing like our Question Period where heckling is allowed. Also, the Prime Minister isn't really the Commander in Chief and doesn't really have the same pomp as the President. The most similar things we have to speeches like this one or State of the Nation speeches are our Throne Speeches which are written by the Prime Minister and officials but read by the Queen's representative in silence with the Prime Minister seated next to him or her. Even in debate and Question Period in Canada I don't believe that members recognized to speak by the Speaker are allowed to call other members "liars". If they do the are removed from the house. You have to be more creative in your choice of words I guess. No mater what people do in other countries, shouting out during a speech to the join houses is not acceptable on any level.. ever. THat's not how it's done here. You respect the president, even if you disagree with him. The "tradition" is just to not applaud on points you disagree with. that is you "heckle"

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) Smile Congressman Wilson, you're on camera. ABC News- that's nice... "wink and nod" support the guy.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) Lightning is going to strike me, but I agree with Balta. There are times where, as a country, we need to run a deficit. We just need to clean up our act when times are good and shrink the government accordingly. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) War, disaster, and recession are my three big circumstances I think a lot, if not all, of the versions of the Balanced Budget amendment included clauses that allow congress or the president to run a deficit... at least I know a clause about war as been present.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) Terrible idea. A balanced budget amendment would have pushed this country flat-out in to a depression this year. I am not say it would be implemented over night. It would be phased in over time.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/57493-s...iling-above-12t Do as I say not as I do. There needs to be a balanced budget amendment to the constitution.

So, despite years of being in politics on both a local and national level, Obama was merely a "celebrity" according to John McCain. But apparently Curt Schilling is fully capable of replacing Ted Kennedy...

With all the ruckus about Obama's "indoctrination" speech today, I saw a headline on TPM that got my attention: "Rep. Charles Boustany (R-LA) To Rebut Obama's Speech" My first thought was, "really, they need to rebut a stay in school" speech. Then I clicked the link and saw it was in regards to Obama's speech TOMORROW about health care reform. Interestingly enough, the most well known Louisianian politician ("Chocolate New Orleans" Nagin not with standing), Gov. Bobby Jindal, will not be rebutting after his poor speech after Obama's last address to the join houses.
