QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) Just upgraded to a cat 5. Should hit N.O. on Tuesday. OMG. Projected to hit as a Cat 4. Katrina was a strong Cat 3 when it hit. And NOLA is on the east side of the storm... the really bad side of a hurricane.

Still Needs Another Day or 2 to be sure, but Obama seems to have stabilized: -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 09:26 PM) To be fair, Palin would be ready to answer the phone at 3 AM, cause it'd be like what, 10 PM in Juneau? GOP Tagline TO be Reexamined

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 08:56 PM) I think universal health care is a colossal mistake, I think the war in Iraq was justified but absolutely managed as poorly as one could possibly manage it, I think that the government needs to stay out of my (your) wallet and my (your) bedroom, and I think states' rights should reign supreme. Where does that leave me? No-where. Libertarian?

I am an Independent who happens to support Barack Obama in 2008. I was born into a middle to upper middle class staunch traditional republican / very christian family. Around late 2004 / early 2005 I started to change, but still hang onto parts of my conservative christian up-bringing. I still oppose gay marriage and abortion. But, I also support universal health care, massive investments in clean energy, and getting out of Iraq. I do not agree with the policies of John McCain and that is why I can not support him. But in 8 years after Obama is done and we have universal health care, out of iraq, and are moving towards renewable energy, I would have no problem supporting a moral conservative if I feel that moral issues are more important than the other issues of the time. If it were up to me, I;d start a "middle" party that pulls a little form the left and a little from the right. But lord knows I dont have the time, money or political clout to do it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 08:47 PM) In case you missed it, the Daily Show tends to do an introductory video for the candidates each election year IIRC. Here's Obama's. I absolutely love the Daily Show.

Picking Palin practically BEGS people to talk about how old and close to death McCain is. It raises the "is she ready to step in" question.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 06:06 PM) And you're comparing a presidential hopeful to a vice presidential hopeful. Who's in charge? It's the president, and if we're talking about experience, McCain has more than Obama, but I agree that this experience thing should not be talked about anymore. John McCain said based on her experience as a very small town mayor and gov of one of the smallest states in the union she is indeed ready to be president.

Here is my prediction: By Sunday, Obama will have a 12+ point lead in the Gallup Poll. Monday starts the "subdued" GOP convention. It wont get really the "conflict" coverage that the DNC convention did. So, they wont be able to get those 12 points back. This VP pick wont hit many swing voters as game changing. (If Obama can push the lack of experience thing on her, it might actually hurt McCain). By Thursday of next week, Obama will have a 4-6 point lead. And that is just the tracking poll. many other non-tracking polls have shown Obama with a 3-5 point lead already before the convention. Those might go sky high. EDIT: For what it's worth, I thought Obama would have been very lucky to get a 6 point bounce and he's already well past that. So, I'm not exactly having a good record on poll predictions.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 02:08 PM) Im not trying to be antogonistic, but I have no idea what her stances are on the issues are. I know she likes guns, is pro-life and doesn't like those gays... but thats about it. Who is this woman? THat's what most Americans are asking today. This is why it is such a HUGE gamble. The McCain campaign needs to brand her nationally in a HURRY. If they dont, Obama will jump on it and they will be the one doing the branding and McCain will be trying to play defense when they need to be out front.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) I didn't say the bounce was over. Tuesday's Gallup tracking showed McCain up by 2.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 02:04 PM) The point with her experience is that it can knock the wind out of the sails of McCain's attacks on Obama over the same issue. Per the Far Right TownHall.com and Republican AP Shill Ron Fournier: If Obama is an empty suit, as McCain has suggested, is Palin suited for the Oval Office herself? She is younger and less experienced than the first-term Illinois senator... A governor for just 20 months, she was two-term mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, a town of 6,500 where the biggest civic worry is whether there will be enough snow for the Iditarod.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) Clinton supporters are overwhelmingly pro-choice unlike Palin. I dont know if I would accept that as fact. I'd be curious to see a poll on that. Maybe majority, but I am not sold on "overwhelmingly" -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) I don't see which swing state will improve McCain's chances with the Palin pick. If he's trying to court former Clintonites, it'll tighten a LITTLE. but not enough to make a huge impact. -

The great fear was that if McCain picked Romney, NV, CO, and MI would be practically in McCain's grip. (NV and CO because Romney is Mormon and MI because of ROmney's dad). Now that it is Palin.... this might open up Obama to take charge in those states. -
How many people watched the Obama speech? 38 million 3-4 million than the Olympic Ceremonies.

LMAO! Palin has international foreign policy experience... she lives next to russia!

Rahm Emanuel piles on: After trying to make experience the issue of this campaign, John McCain celebrated his 72nd birthday by appointing a former small town mayor and brand new Governor as his Vice Presidential nominee. Is this really who the Republican Party wants to be one heartbeat away from the Presidency? Given Sarah Palin's lack of experience on every front and on nearly every issue, this Vice Presidential pick doesn't show judgement: it shows political panic.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:03 AM) They are only a "forerunner" because they are published first. They aren't a true predictor of the states individually. no no. obviously. What I have said in the past is that you might only see state polls a few times a month. So, a national poll can possibly give you a prediction of state polls. Make no mistake, state polls are what count.
