QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) Happens to all of us at some point in life, that's a bad time for it though. He had a sense of humor about it. He's like "ah whatever" lol

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 04:26 PM) Meh. It doesn't touch the stage used for Bob Hope's 1987 Christmas Special. I was 4 years old.

I think more convention speakers need to wear cowboy hats. I dig that. PS: Unless I havent said it enough times, I covet that stage. Seriously I want it. Anyone know how I can steal it and put it in the church I work for? I could have a lot of fun with that.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 12:44 PM) http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/20...n-jabs-oba.html I already thought that him doing his speech in a different venue than every other democrat at the convention had a nice little touch of arrogance to it, but this is too much. Who does he think he is, Zeus? I swear, sometimes I wonder if Obama is just completely unaware of his weaknesses, or just ignores them. And neither is a good thing. Someone pointed out that it could be a representation of say... the Lincoln Memorial. 2 Reasons For that: Anniversary of "I have a Dream" Lincoln.... Illinois.... Obama... Illinois.

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) WAKE UP AMERICA! (...and have a gander at my wife's rockin' tits!) oh i forgot about her. Dennis needs to be in the spotlight more so she'll be around. Bet yet, just have her around, he can stay home.

2008 General Election Discussion Thread

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) The funny part is the Obama people have threatened legal action against stations airing the ad, even though I would love to hear what in this ad is illegal. As I said, the ad obviously is exaggeratory in nature, but the general information in it is pretty accurate. I have to find the link, but many of the clips int he video were lifter from a movie and they did NOT ask permission to use the, The movie maker is suing for copyright violation and requesting they pull the ad. By the way, McCain promised to denounce outside groups who ran negative ads. His response to the ad: well... it's got some good points! -
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) I think #2 is important to me. In America, our Muslim population has been very hardworking and has gotten themselves relatively ahead. In Europe, they are among the poorest population, and isolated with terrible schooling and completely marginalized. The result is they've opened themselves up, as radicalization takes place so they can feel power in something. We cannot marginalize productive, patriotic Muslims in this country. Obama has to stop treating the Muslim claim like it's acid. Conversely, McCain's repeated talk about how mid-east countries are averse to our "Judeo-Christian" values is seen as setting up a religious war to uneducated peoples. Was this country founded on Judeo-Christian principles, yes. Is that the reason we are facing threats from radical muslim extremists? A small part. But if you push that to the front it is a dangerous precedent. This country has come too far to villify our own Americans, and immediately after 9/11 I think we did a good job of embracing our Muslim population. Do not perceive this as me advocating teaching the Q'uran in public schools or backing down at stuff like that, more that we should be careful about our language. Muslim has become such a dirty word, if people begin attributing the radicals of terrorist groups to hard working Americans we are creating problems at home we don't need and can easily be prevented. :notworthy Was i reading too much into the "radical Islamic government" comment? Or is there a subtext there?

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 11:22 AM) CNN had a body language expert to show that Hillary wasn't really supporting Obama, lol. "body language experts" are like shrinks. They go to school for years, ask you to pay lots of money then just give you BS answers to make you feel better.
-
There is this crap floating around that "body language experts" say that Hillary wasnt REALLY supporting Barack. And to mock that a little: Greg Sargent: "Breaking: Secret footage reveals Hillary delivered non-endorsement by blinking it in morse code!"

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 10:05 AM) That's stupid. Seriously stupid. (the ad and the out of context, not you... ). I'm not the stupid one for a change. SWEET! hehehe 2 MAJOR problems with the ad other than the obvious out of context stuff: 1) As was pointed out to John McCain, Ahmadinejad is NOT the leader of Iran. In fact, he hold very little power. 2) It says "radical Islamic government". Does that mean McCain wants to declare war on Muslims? Why would you bring that up? I am probably over analyzing on #2, but it brings up an interesting topic of discussion. In America, Muslim = bad, even if they are good people. Muslim = you are going to blow me up. So, to play to that fear is disgusting.

Another day, another McCain ad that flat out lies about Obama:

Sadly, I think a similar strategy was used by Cheney to get Bush to OK a war with Iraq.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 12:26 AM) That guy from Montana has 2016 written all over him. he was AWESOME! That guy is a room warmer if I've ever seen one.

For those who didnt notice it during the speech, at one point they cut away to a shot of Bubba and he was near tears and you could read his lips saying "I love you Hillary..." Sweet moment.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 10:51 PM) I think they are very sad that she didn't get it, but they will vote for Obama. They are diehards, they won't sit home on election day. one would hope. but some people are stubborn or stupid.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 09:38 PM) that is an awful analogy. I never said it was a good one. I am just trying to make a simple point that when you spend all your time working foe one goal and the dream is squashed, it's really tough to pivot and move another direction.

Apparently the McCain campaign wasnt listening to the same speech everyone else was: “Senator Clinton ran her presidential campaign making clear that Barack Obama is not prepared to lead as commander in chief, Nowhere tonight did she alter that assessment. Nowhere tonight did she say that Barack Obama is ready to lead. Millions of Hillary Clinton supporters and millions of Americans remain concerned about whether Barack Obama is ready to be President.” "And when Barack Obama is in the White House, he'll revitalize our economy, defend the working people of America, and meet the global challenges of our time. Democrats know how to do this. As I recall, President Clinton and the Democrats did it before. And President Obama and the Democrats will do it again." SOunds like she said he is ready to lead.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) Yeah. I just don't get it. It freaks me out to be honest. Ya know, i got to thinking. My analogy might be a little "touchy" given what happened to joe Bidden, but let me try and put this in a little bit of a human perspective... Delegates are like a husband or wife. you give your time, money, and commitment to get one single person elected to be president of the united states. you are picked as a delegate because you are loyal. Then one day... the love of your life dies tragically in a car accident. It's sad. It's really really hard. You loved her. But, you have to move on. But how? In time, you might meet a new person and get married. but it's never the same as your first love.
