QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 09:49 AM) Was McCain piloting the helicopter that freed the hostages? He is/was in Colombia. no. if he were, it would have crashed. No green, because it's probably true.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 09:26 AM) Did I miss the Edwards Vice-Presidency? oh shoosh! I meant VP running mate.

McCain Supporters Find Way to Skirt the McCain-Feingold Act A story in today's Wall Street Journal reports on new Republican efforts to circumvent the landmark campaign finance laws named after their top candidate -- the McCain-Feingold Act of 2002. The McCain camp is also trying out some other tactics to get around McCain's 2002 law and rake in more money.

Well, John McCain is ready to roll out a new talking point: Jobs First It's not confirmed if he will be talking about Jobs first in the USA, or jobs first in Mexico, India, and China. His full throttle support for NAFTA and free trade would seem to suggest the latter.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 06:59 AM) And McCain is labeling Obama as the elitist? The average American doesn't gamble away thousands at a time. I think his strategy on Iraq shows he's an "all in. go for broke" kind of guy while Obama thinks it out and plans carefully.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 08:37 AM) Didn't you just say the other day that he was a loose cannon, and you'd rather see Edwards? I would absolutely. But I dont think Edwards wants to be VP again. He's said no, then well maybe. but in the end I dont htink he wants it. Richardson is my second choice, but he does scare me a little. What he said last night really impressed me. I think the campaign will have to keep Richardson on message, but he'd be a solid choice, he jut worries me a little.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) Insert McCain instead of Obama, and you'd be posting s*** about McCain like there was no tomorrow. I'm sick of this, and it's not even July 4 yet. and if I found out it was false or the interpretation was inaccurate, I'd pull it. I already have once.

I just heard Bill RIchardson on Larry King Live talking about the Columbia hostage situation. Obama..... pick this man. He'll make John McCain look like a 4th grader when it comes to foreign policy and knowledge (not that McCain hasn't already mad himself look like a 4th grader)

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 05:32 PM) Not really true (about not creating enough electricity). The technology is now approaching a level where its not just a novelty - its a viable solution. correct. It's just a matter of driving down the costs to build and install. The new trend is to rent / lease solar from a company. They come out and install the solar panel then charge you base don your power use. Kind of like a electric company. It's a much cheaper instal than a ownership model.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 02:04 PM) This smells MORE than a little fishy: RNC creates independent expenditure arm Talk about taking a loop-hole, ripping it wide open and running through. Obama responds: "It has been reported that the Republican National Committee will begin running television ads in a number of battleground states this weekend. As John McCain's own advisors have noted, the RNC and the McCain campaign operate as one unit. And since these ads will likely be attack ads that contradict McCain's pledge to run a respectful campaign, he can, and should, immediately reverse his plan to air them. In fact, a few months ago, McCain urged GOP state party committees to run a respectful campaign, stating, 'I have pledged to conduct a respectful campaign. And I have urged, time after time, various entities within the Republican Party to also do that.' Clearly, the RNC should adhere to the same standard."

Ok, this just made me laugh: Senator McCain's pitch for campaign funds Telegram?? He doesn't know how to use a computer and he is "aware" of the internet. So, instead of e-mail, apparently he has chosen the telegram route. Is he trying to make the "Old Man McCain" jokes that easy???

For those who might want to think Fox News is a real news organization, check this out.... http://mediamatters.org/items/200807020002 During a segment in which Fox & Friends co-hosts Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade labeled New York Times reporter Jacques Steinberg and editor Steven Reddicliffe "attack dogs," Fox News featured photos of Steinberg and Reddicliffe that appeared to have been digitally altered -- the journalists' teeth had been yellowed, their facial features exaggerated, and portions of Reddicliffe's hair moved further back on his head. I am sure it was just an "accident" by a staffer and they have since been fired.

2008 General Election Discussion Thread
HuskyCaucasian replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
Week in Review (June 26th-July 1st) Missouri (SurveyUSA) – McCain 50%; Obama 43% Tennessee (Rasmussen) – McCain 51%; Obama 36% New Jersey (Fairleigh Dickinson) – Obama 49%; McCain 33% Ohio (SurveyUSA) – Obama 48%; McCain 46% Mississippi (Rasmussen) – McCain 50%; Obama 44% Texas (Rasmussen) – McCain 48%; Obama 39% Arizona (Rasmussen) – McCain 49%; Obama 40% Virginia (SurveyUSA) – Obama 49%; McCain 47% Massachusetts (SurveyUSA) – Obama 53%; McCain 40% Georgia (Rasmussen) – McCain 53%; Obama 43% New York (SurveyUSA) – Obama 57%; McCain 37% Alabama (Rasmussen) – McCain 51%; Obama 36% North Carolina (PPP) – McCain 45%; Obama 41% Florida (Rasmussen) – McCain 48%; Obama 41% Florida (PPP) – Obama 46%; McCain 44% As I said earlier, I have been wholly impressed by SurveyUSA's primary results so I have been following them closest. In May, SurveyUSA did a round of polls and towards the end of June did another round of many of the same states. From what I have seen, McCain has closed on Obama on many of the swing states, but what's of note is that Obama hasnt moved, and in a few cases actually gained a few percentage points. But, McCain picked up the “undecided” votes in large quantities. In many of the polls it was 10+% undecided in May, but in June it is 5% or less and McCain gained most of those. what does this say? I am not sure. Obama's base seems strong, but he NEEDS those undecideds. If he can even pull 3 or 4% f those undecideds back away from McCain, Obama could be in for a landslide victory in November. Based on the polls I have seen, McCain has made little or nor ground on “blue states”, but Obama is making it VERY close or ahead in many “red states” (Virginia, North Carolina, Nevada, Colorado). McCain is kind of close in Michigan, but it's tenuous at best. States to keep a close watch on: Virgina is very close and would “change the map”, as is North Carolina Also keep an eye on Ohio. It's close, but Obama doesnt need it to win. A win in Ohio, makes it almost impossible for McCain. -
D'OH!!! This from this morning... Q: You have admitted that you’re not exactly an expert when it comes to the economy and many have said – McCAIN: I have not. I have not. Actually, I have not. I said that I am stronger on national security issues because of all the time I spent in the military. I’m very strong on the economy. I understand it. I have a lot more experience than my opponent. This from last December- "The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should. I’ve got Greenspan’s book." This from January 2000- Seeking to explain his shift on economic issues, McCain claimed: “I didn’t pay nearly the attention to those issues in the past. I was probably a ’supply-sider’ based on the fact that I really didn’t jump into the issue.”

Video Of and Behind the Scenes of Tesla:
-
Well, web 2.0 is a new way at looking at how the web can function. Could Tesla Motors be auto manufacturer 2.0? This company is a new car designer / developer founded in 2003 and based out of Silicon Valley. Their earlier results have been very impressive. Their first car is a $100,000 all electric roadster. It gets the equivalent of 256mpg, but can currently only go 220 miles on a charge. In the next 5 years, they are looking to roll out a $60,000 sedan to compete with the BMW 5 Series and the Audi A6 and then use those profits to mass production sub-$30,000 sedan. And now, there is a rumor that Tesla has inked a deal with Daimler to supply it with lithium-ion batteries for upcoming electric cars. Daimler is apparently looking to ditch gas by 2015. Keep an eye on these guys. I wish i could invest in them.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 05:50 PM) They want Hispanics, and they want foreign policy experience? And a catholic? Bill Richardson, your table is ready. Man i dunno. I like him a LOT, but I dont have a lot of faith in his discipline. He kind of scares me as a bit of a loose cannon. He's a tough talker though, so Obama might need someone like that. I feel conflicted. But my record shows if I had to pick Obama VP, Edwards would be first, Richardson second.
-
Chuck Todd said he is hearing a LOT of rumbling behind that scenes that there is a push for Obama to take a Catholic with foreign policy experience. The foreign policy is obvious, but the catholic part is to reach out to Hispanics and the religious right. The name being heavily floated is Chis Dodd. But I think the Countrywide Financial loan scandal might make that not very attractive to Obama.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3469308 The ball Barry Bonds launched for his record-breaking 756th home run took a strange turn Tuesday on its possible path to the Hall of Fame. First, the Hall announced it wouldn't take the asterisk-stamped souvenir because talks with its owner broke down over whether the ball would be loaned or donated. Hours later, the man who paid $752,467 for the prize presented a different view. "At this time, the ball is on route to the Hall of Fame," fashion designer Marc Ecko said in a statement. "I hope that they will accept it and honor their commitment to display it at some point in time." Ecko spokeswoman Laurie Baker said the ball would be offered as a "permanent donation." After many conversations back and forth, the Hall said Tuesday afternoon that recent talks with Ecko had "unfortunately reached an impasse." "The owner's previous commitment to unconditionally donate the baseball has changed to a loan. As a result, the Hall of Fame will not be able to accept the baseball," the Hall said. Early Tuesday evening, Ecko responded. "I am surprised that the Hall issued a statement that said they would no longer accept the Barry Bonds' 756th home run baseball. We had been in communication with them just this morning and the Hall did not mention that they would change their position and no longer accept the ball," he said. "Based on the Hall of Fame's previous statements that they would both accept and display the ball, the only open issue we were talking about was the Hall's recent indication of discomfort in displaying it and addressing the controversy surrounding the record." The Hall held many internal discussions and consulted with several prominent museums last year before deciding it would accept the marked ball. Bonds called Ecko an "idiot" when the designer announced plans to hold the vote. The slugger later said he would boycott the Hall if it displayed the ball with an asterisk. Bonds finished the season with 762 home runs. The San Francisco Giants did not offer him a contract for this year, and he hasn't gotten an offer to play for another team.
