QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 11:18 AM) I think it's especially funny because the reporter seems especially passive and accommodating in her questions. no, i think it's being fair. She asked him a question and pressed him on it. It would be rather unprofessional to me to badger him into a response or anger attack. I thought she did a good job, he just pooped his pants when asked and didnt know how to respond. You cant FORCE him to answer. Heck, his NON-answer was almost an answer in itself. PS: He said he would get back to her later that day, I have not seen yet that he ever did. But, he was a little busy trying to appease us whinny Americans.

Via the NYTimes: I cant even begin to tell you how icky his makes me feel.

This may be one of the most awkward moments in political history... I can almost see his mind turning and thinking "oh god. how have I voted? i dont know where i stand!" UPDATE: Ed Rollins (a Republican Strategist) said that video is the most uncomfortable video he's ever seen in his 40 years in politics.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) I'm all for solor and wind power, but I don't think it is ready to take over as a major producer of energy. We need to put money into research as we build some new nuclear. I don't think nuclear power needs to be the total long term solution. agreed

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 07:11 PM) I totally disagree. McCain is for alternative energy just as much as Obama. Also, the Dems haven't done anything for energy independence, the notion that they are better on energy is a farce. A lot Democrats won't even allow windmills in their area. Plus, there is more to alternative energy than wind and solar. I agree with everything you just wrote. in general, neither side as really done much. I do believe that McCain and Obama would both change america's energy policy in a good direction. I think Obama's is more drastic than McCains, but that is up for debate. Energy is probably one of those things that I'd have no major issue with either of them. Personally, I prefer Obama's policy of wind and solar with some nuclear over McCains policy of heavy nuclear with some wind and solar. but whatever. I also think that Yucaa isnt as big of a deal as people make it out to be. Just dump the nuclear waste there.

Sorry, but I have to: Panderer-in-Chief: McCain Tells a New Version of Heroic P.O.W. Story I could make a "senior moment" joke, but I wont.

Obam was scheduled to give a speech at the Brandenburg Gate in Germany when he makes his trip later this month. The German government wasnt too keen on it. now it looks like the Bush-ies might have been working behind the scenes to snuf Obama:

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 12:01 PM) Could you imagine the media frenzy that would happen if one of the candidates DID actually rip one while they were talking or something? Parody, not reality

Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.: "One of Senator McCain's top economic advisors may think that when people are struggling with lost jobs, stagnant wages, and the rising costs of everything from gas to groceries, it's merely a 'mental recession.' And Senator McCain may think it's sufficient to offer energy proposals that he admits will have mainly 'psychological' benefits. But the American people know that our economic problems aren't just in their heads. They don't need psychological relief – they need real relief – and that's what Barack Obama will provide as President,"
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 10:34 AM) A lot of people keep calling Obama out for throwing people under the bus. Why don't they do it for examples like this? “not representative of McCain’s views”??? He did say a few weeks back that our economic situation was largely psychological. Doesnt psychological = mental?

McCain Awkward Moment of the Day when he actually gets called out on an issue. This reporter wont be on the Straight Talk Express tomorrow I am guessing. This video will resurface in ads targeted towards women... mark my words.

A few weeks back John McCain said that a lot of our problems are "psychological." Today, a John McCain Adviser: "You've heard of mental depression; this is a mental recession... We have sort of become a nation of whiners...You just hear this constant whining, complaining about a loss of competitiveness, America in decline" Suck up you whinny American's and take it in the butt by the Chinese!

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 07:50 AM) I find it obnoxious when people hide behind the "I'm a vet and you're not!" thing and avoid any criticism. It's a pet peeve of mine. I've said for a while that I think McCain uses his POW experience to hide and avoid criticisms. A few weeks ago, a McCain supporter said flat out that McCain's flip-flops, I'm sorry.... shifts in position, were far less important than Obama's because McCain was a POW and he deserves some slack. Remember, back in 1982, John McCain said: "One of the things I've never tried to do is exploit my Vietnam service to my country because it would be totally inappropriate to do."

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 07:28 AM) Jesse's son is also his national co-chair. and he pretty much laid the smack down on his dad.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 07:06 AM) I'm not so sure that Jessie really wants Obama to win. I see a petty man there, one who is jealous of Obama's campaign success, and who is all but ignored by Obama. I think on the surface he is pulling for him, but underneath, I bet he is very conflicted. I agree with you that I think Obama has been talking down to people, just not quite sure on Jessie's motivations. Jackson has an ego the size of a hot-air balloon (hot air pun FULLY intended). I think you have a pretty good assessment there. I've said it before, I think Jackson desperately want to be the modern day MLK (hence why he place the race card every possible chance he gets). The problem is that Obama is not in that mold. He's not Al Sharpton, not Jessie Jackson. He's... well.... more mainstream as to not have white people think he's some crazy black guy.

McCain has chimed in. and he say's Obama wavers. I have no idea how he would have voted on this bill. no wonder he didnt show up like usual. Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA) rips McCain for being a no show:

Iraq Prime Minister demands US withdrawal timetable

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 08:58 PM) Why is everybody trying so hard to obscure a very simple fact? Bush and McCain were both talking out of their asses when they gave lip service to the notion that they would heed the wishes of a freely and fairly elected Iraq if the US was asked to leave. When initially asked the question, W did not say it would depend on the situation on the ground. He said, “If they were to say, leave, we would leave.” When McCain was asked the same question and had an opportunity to say that W spoke out of turn and we would only leave when we decided it was time, No, he said, ""Well, if that scenario evolves than I think it's obvious that we would have to leave.” These are very direct responses to a situation that is very likely to arise, it's not some outlandish hypothetical. The only outlandish part is that anybody would take the president at his word when he pretends like he cares about the will of the fairly elected Iraqi government or its people. :notworthy -
I've learned this... Jackson likes to think he represents the entire African American community, but he does not. I've learned to ignore anything he says as him just trying as hard as he can to be MLK. By the way, Bill O'Reilly actually was very fair about: How is reaching out to faith based organizations talking down to black people? Is it talking down to them by telling them not to rely completely on the government for help?

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 06:03 PM) This is exactly correct. The Democrats only want which system favors them at any given moment. If it was the other way around, the Dems would be saying the electoral college is key to a strong union of states. The electoral college is ok, and it does represent what we are, a union of states. I've thought the electoral college was silly since I was learning about it in Junior High. That and lobbyists. Neither made much sense to me.
