  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) I don't know why I am surprised, but I was. The man needs to look in the mirror and not the camera for once.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 09:01 AM) Now they are saying Jesse dropped the "N" word too... http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...17002&imw=Y doesnt Jackson tell black people how to behave on a daily basis?
  3. Gore sets "moonshot" goal on fuels, climate change
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 08:03 PM) Actually this is already happening. They're not building new refineries, but thanks to government mandates and subsidies, they've been expanding them quite rapidly. More rapidly than oil production can keep up with actually. According to data from the EIA, and a bit of simple math (calculating a 12 month moving average) Over the last year U.S. refineries have been operating at about 88.2% of capacity, and that number is dropping sharply (for the last 4 months it's down to 85-86% or lower). The last time that the U.S. had such a low percentage of its refinery capacity utilized was early in 1992. I stand corrected. interesting information.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 07:54 PM) nonetheless, athomeboy is going to post every bit of news on mccain or obama during the day, and has been for 3 months, yet you and ss2k5 feel the need to respond after many of his posts with "OH BUT OBAMA IS ALWAYS RIGHT" blah blah. You clearly know what he's going to post, so why does it shock you still so much. We're all adults here and can personally disseminate which news is important and which is frivilous, no need to consistently attack athomeboy. I personally enjoy that he keeps this forum at least very active. you can tell that my day job has been very slow the last few months lol
  6. I'm giving you Republican's an ally-oop here. Consider it a peace offering Media Stars Will Accompany Obama Overseas
  7. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 07:31 PM) But transportation costs alone should be less, no? possibly. but what I thought I read was that we could be pumping a billion barrels a day out of alaska or Texas and it still wouldnt help since we physically cant turn it into a usable product fast enough. I believe US refineries are running at near 100% capacity. Building refineries needs to be step one in my opinion.
  8. I took a look at the upcoming calender and I want to project when Obama will name his VP. Obama will be overseas 7/22-7/30ish. The Olympics are 8/8-8/24 The Dem Convention is 8/25-8/28 There is a very small window there. Most believe he wont name his VP during the Olympics and not before he heads overseas. So, we are looking at 7/31-8/7. Obama will want his VP to get some coverage before the Olympics. So, I am projecting August 3-5. What about McCain? Well, the Rep Convention is Sep 1. Maybe McCain names his VP while Obama is overseas to steal the news coverage away from him. The other options are during the olympics (bad idea), or IMMEDIATELY after the Dem. Convention August 30th? A Saturday? hmmm... maybe not. I dunno with McCain. It's a tough call.
  9. Isnt some of the argument that America doenst have the refining capacity for an increase in supply?
  10. Obama Campaign Opens 20 New Field Offices In Virginia I dont know what type of election day coverage we plan on doing here (i think he'd be cool if we did some kind of live webcast, but that's just me), but when we have a thread on election day, I want you all to place CLOSE attention to Virginia. It could be a map changer. I'll save the in depth analysis until later, but all three polls done in Virginia since June 14th, have Obama ahead by 1 or 2 points (within the margin of error).
  11. AP is reporting that the FBI is investigating IndyMac for fraud.
  12. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 01:35 PM) From Congress Daily: Democratic and Republican congressional aides say there is turmoil within the the House Homeland Security Committee's majority staff and that oversight work is being eclipsed by a focus on promoting contracting opportunities for small and minority-owned businesses. Sources who spoke only if they could remain anonymous said they are particularly concerned that the committee's new staff director, I. Lanier Avant, does not have the qualifications to lead the committee and faces a conflict of interest because he continues to serve as chief of staff in House Homeland Security Chairman Bennie Thompson's congressional office. They expressed concern that Avant must balance his duties on Thompson's personal staff, which includes attention to politics and fundraising, and managing the heavy responsibilities of running the committee, which he began doing last month. Avant does not have a security clearance. Sources said that raises questions about his ability to make decisions on issues involving classified information. Speaking candidly with CongressDaily, Avant said he does "the bulk of [Thompson's] political work." I have no idea what any of that means. I read "blah blah blah". lol Can someone smarter than me explain this?
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 11:27 AM) the gorilla joke? Me either. Must be 80s humor. yea. I thought that too. The punch line made no sense to me.
  14. I, for one, find ape rape hysterical. Flashback: McCain joked about how much women love to be raped by an ape
  15. Week in Review (July 9th-15th) Swing Away? Alabama (AEA/Capital Survey) - McCain 49%, Obama 36% Kansas (TargetPoint ®) - McCain 49%, Obama 36% Missouri (PPP (D)) - McCain 47%; Obama 44% Missouri (Rasmussen) - McCain 47%; Obama 42% New Jersey (Rasmussen) - Obama 44%, McCain 39% Maine (Pan Atlantic SMS) - Obama 37%, McCain 26% Illinois (Rasmussen) - Obama 52%, McCain 41% North Dakota (Rasmussen) - McCain 47%, Obama 46% Wisconsin (Rasmussen) - Obama 52%, McCain 42% Washington (Rasmussen) - Obama 51%, McCain 43% Missouri (Research 2000) - McCain 43%, Obama 48% Louisiana (Rasmussen) - McCain 56%, Obama 37% Colorado (PPP (D)) - Obama 47%, McCain 43% Michigan (Rasmussen) - Obama 50%, McCain 42% South Dakota (Rasmussen) - McCain 47%, Obama 43% Minnesota (Rasmussen) - Obama 54%, McCain 37% Iowa (Rasmussen) - Obama 51%, McCain 41% In the movie Signs, the famous line is “Swing away, Merrill.” So, why did I choose this line for today?s theme? Simple... it works on two levels. 1) The trend in polls of key swing states like Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, and Iowa is Obama pulling AWAY in SWING states. These states need to be in Obama's column for a win in November. In another swing state like Colorado, he has a marginal lead, but it's been fairly constant at around 5 points and I suspect a bumb after the convention. that is Why Obama's big lead in Minnesota is so important. 2) Obama is going to “swing away” at states he should not win, but might! Polling shows he's got a shot. Look at North Dakota (McCain +1) and South Dakota (McCain +4). South Dakota has voted republican in every presidential election since 1968 and only voted Democrat once since 1940! North Dakota is exactly the same. In 2004, George Bush won South Dakota by 21.47%. Here is the RCP Electoral Map base don poll averages: Of note: I said last week the Chuck Todd of MSNBC says a lot of internal and private polling shows Indiana VERY close and Obama ahead in many. Just two hours a go, and Obama supporter said America will be shocked by Indiana come November. He insinuated that Obama will win Indiana, and it may not be close.
