talk about a tread rising from the dead

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 10:15 AM) Free trade is a tricky thing you have to address carefully. Obama kind of takes it to an extreme and he makes it sound like he doesn't know what he's talking about. McCain just kind of carries the banner of "yeahhhhhhhhhh OMFG trade trade trade all of it's good." Obama has said that Free Trade isnt necessarily a BAD thing, the problem is the imbalance of it. We import way more than we export and we import products there once made here... we export the jobs to import the product. that is Obama's key criticism of free trade. I guess balancing free trade wouldnt exactly make it FREE, but that's a semantical point in the end.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 09:58 AM) I agree. Hopefully McCain won't comment and the whole thing will just fade away. Well, the campaign wont let it die... McCain Surrogate Demeans Wes Clark's Service Say being being a POW does not qualify you to be president... demeaning and bad. Saying someone did a $hitty job while in charge.. totally ok.

Obama continues his red state push:

Does John McCain really think that he can win the free trade argument? I am curious. I would think all you;d need to do is show closed factories all over the country and show how they were shipped over seas to put Free Trade down. McCain said in this ad he is for making more jobs in MEXICO! What about the jobs in Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania? How has free trade helped them? Anyone notice the not so subtle jab at illegal immigrants? "With more jobs, they will be able to stay in their country".

Dear Orioles, please send a bag of balls and we will consider it a trade ~Sincerely, AThomeBoy_2000 -
well, for what it is worth, if a black hole is created and destroys the earth, it'll happen before we ever realize it. See ya on the other side!

PS: Sorry about the Republican side of the poll. i thought I had included "OTHER", but I guess i missed it.

I lost the link to an article about when the candidates will announce their VPs. It points to the Olympics being a problem. The candidates dont want their VP announcement to get buried by the Olympics.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 06:49 PM) Obama/Sebelius I just dont know what she adds really. Everyone talks about her, but I know NOTHING about her and I dont think that is good when you have to try and explain to America who your VP is.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 05:12 PM) I'll say again, against popular opinion, that these two candidates are the best pair we've gotten for office in my lifetime. They aren't great, but they are an improvement. A huge one of the last two or three cycles. I agree with you 100%. i dont like McCain, but he's better than bush.

2008 General Election Discussion Thread
HuskyCaucasian replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
FYI: To try and keep the "new polling data" posts down, I am going to do one post a week on every Wednesday for the previous 7 days polls. This will also include a quick analysis on that weeks data and a RealClearPolitics map of the Electoral college. As a teaser for this Wednesday, the polls show a VERY interesting shift in support... but it MIGHT not be what you think it is. -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 04:23 PM) i think the American people demand attack ads about McCains military career. *waits for ad to totally backfire on Dems* If Obama can be attacked for "lack of experience", McCain can be called out for the "experience" he claims to have.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 04:04 PM) And Obama did drugs and ... and ... and ... WTF is your problem? Seriously? Obama isnt running on his drug use experience

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) McCain was a war pilot, and put his ass on the line. I've also seen actual footage of the man leaping from a plane, across a burning flight deck, to then help the crew try to put out a fire on the Forestall. And he is worth our respect. But I reserve the right to look at the whole of his experience and say "ya know, this isnt what he says it really is". As Clark said, being a POW doesnt make you qualified to be president. If it did, there should be hundreds running for president right now. And as someone else just pointed out: There is a difference between being a war hero and being a military leader. Being a POW does not give him ANYTHING extra that makes him more qualified to be president than any other person on this planet.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) McCain's military records are out there. Go ahead and peruse them. But its utter B.S. to say that his whole thing is (have pity on my, I was a POW". That's as much B.S., if not more so, than the Swifties. Where are the records? Last i heard they've NEVER be released out side of what he says. I read a rumor that John Mccain wasnt going to be offered to be an admiral, he says he turned down to become a senator. Both sides have no evdience. The records would/ As for the "POW stuff: In 1982- "One of the things I've never tried to do is exploit my Vietnam service to my country because it would be totally inappropriate to do." Note This: And he mentions being a POW and Vietnam every chance he can get.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 04:41 PM) Yet no one asks Obama why it is OK to attack McCains wife and war record... It is ok to question Cindy McCain's connections since McCain is using her jet and if Republicans can call for John Kerry to release all his military records, it's more than fair to call out John McCain to do the same since he is indeed running on his military background as proof he is ready to lead this country. Did you know John McCain crashed 5 airplanes in his military career and finished 5th from the bottom of his graduating class? I think the American people would find that interesting.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 04:36 PM) Dude, WTF? That is as direct an answer as he could give. What else were you looking for? I hate this kind of crap. It was a stupid question for the press to ask, and its useless to the process. When asked about Afganistan and Pakistan he had 3 words "yes and yes". When it came to Obama... "well,... yea know... he's a story... he's liked. Next question. What was so hard to say "yes, he loves his country".

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 03:27 PM) i was just gonna say the same thing. but damn if it doesnt piss me off. screw Obama for having Clark go out and rip McCain's war service and then denounce it to keep his hands clean. disgusting. I think a thread on McCain and his service needs to be made at some point. but not now. There is a lot there and a lot of rumors. If Obama can get a "Wright" thread (heck, at one point I think there were 2), there needs ot be a thread on what McCain's military service was REALLY like... other than just saying "have pity on me. I was a POW"

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) it was a yes or no question. he never answered. He WANTS to leave the door open for people to attack it. If he says "yes, he is patriotic and cares abotu this country", it's done. Now the door is open. By the way, a few questions later he was asked a yes or no question about Afghanistan and Pakistan. His response: "yes and yes. Next question". Glad to see someone else picke dup on this... Asked If He Questions Obama's Patriotism, McCain Doesn't Directly Answer

Although i tend to agree with what Wesley Clark said, I think he just talked himself out of the VP.
