  1. Keynote starts in 30 minutes. Let the fun begin!!
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 14, 2008 -> 11:14 AM) Most of the pollsters appear to have decided to simply avoid Nevada after the New Hampshire debacle, but there's a few still attempting it. You beat me to the punch. I was just about to comment that it appears there are almost no polls in NV. They seem to have tucked their tales between their legs and run away. lol hmm... wow. A lot of Edwards support. I bet Hillary finishes 3rd again. Remember, this is a caucus just like Iowa.
  3. I read an article on Wired.com that totally ripped him apart and I think it was fairly accuraite. if you want to read it... head on over here.
  4. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) Whoops http://www.chicagoelections.com/voterinfo.php thanks! lol not sure it applies to me since i live in roselle, but pretty cool
  5. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) Enter your address on this page to obtain a sample ballot for Feb 5th (Illinois voters). I'm going to research some of the less prestigious positions beforehand to make sure I vote for the right people. huh?
  6. I want to clarify, i dont know one way or the other if she actually has done anything. I just find it odd that she can make these broad statements and not be called out on them. You see Hillary calling out Obama on his experience (and probably rightly so), yet they let her fly. hmmm....
  7. Ok, so i just heard an interview on MSNBC with a Hillary supporter and she mentioned that while Obama talks about change... Hillary has produced change. Ya know, every time I hear one of her supports on TV mention that, they NEVER have followed up with a "well, how has she produced change?" I know we have talked about it here, but no one in the national media feels to the need to follow up on that.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) Or, it's "I think if this person is elected, I will benefit more from having him/her in the job". true. I phrased my second option wrong. I meant to include that too.
  9. QUOTE(Chet Lemon @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 10:12 AM) Arizona Gov. Endorses Obama Along w/ Kerry and Johnson, this is another endorsement that will benefit Obama. He wins support from a popular woman governor of a western state. An Obama administration would likely consider her to lead the Justice Department or view her as a possible Supreme Court nominee. As you may have inadvertently hinted there, not all endorsements are "oh i like this guy, vote for him". Many are for political gain. "Hey, i gave you my support, now give me something back".
  10. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 09:03 PM) EDIT: By the way, why is Hillary the only Dem on the Michigan ballot? Even though the delegates don;t count there will be people who do not pay very close attention and notice that she "Won easily" in Michigan. Hence why she is still on the ballot. She needs a "see, i won!" moment. I believe she is also one of few still on the Florida ballot.
  11. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 09:03 PM) Interesting take on Michigan. hmmm.... kinda right. i think Mitt is good for the Democrats and Hillary is good for the Republicans. Hence why many hope for a Obama / McCain battle. THat will be epic.
  12. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 11:29 PM) It's the old folks' fault!!! Well, kinda right. you could argue this younger generation is in favor of massive changes but older people like the status quo.
  13. Kucinich wants a recount in NH because of the difference between machine counted votes and hand counted votes. More info at newsobserver.com
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 05:39 PM) I hear they're in need of writers. Of course, this is a Dems only thread... Well, we all know the GOP has no sense of humor JUST KIDDING!!!
  15. With all this witty banter, i think if we banded all of SoxTalk together we might just give the Daily Show a run for its money.
  16. Ok, after seeing the numbers on paper, I am really against this. It doesn't add up. People in a lower tax bracket have to pay more while the rich pay less. You could argue trickle down economics, but it doesn't work with corporate greed.
  17. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) math error... if you pay $8,218 in taxes under the current system, under the 30% sales tax system would would have to buy $27,393 worth of items. ($27,393 x .30= $8,218) OMG! wow, I'm an idiot. Had it all out on paper and used a wrong number. OOPS! I'll correct that.
  18. I just did a quick calculation... Based on $60,000 a year income (pre-taxes) you pay $8,218 in federal taxes. So, you would need to spend the equivalent of $27,393.34 today (27,393.34 x 30% sales tax = $8,218.00)
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) That makes sense, but shouldn't we look at income projections and spending projections to determine what is off? The little trick of just increasing the projected income and spend is dangerous. We did that at my church for years. "oh, we'll project a giving increase of 7%". Well, then it would increase 3% or less and we'd be screwed. Now they take a much more modest look at it.
  20. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) Shorter and wider. :lolhitting :lolhitting
  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 02:40 PM) I would be open to conditions on the balanced budget amendment... 3/4 super-majority to override, or a declaration of War (and only applicable to that spending), for example. You always want to have that last resort option available. But that is what it should be. Agreed.
  22. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) Currently that exec or baseball player with $21M is taxed on $21M, with a sales tax, how much is he really going to spend? And I'm using an extreme example, but even take a $500,000 salary. We'd only be collecting taxes on a smaller percentage of those earnings. He would be taxed roughly $7,336,103 based on the current system. So, he would need to spend the equivalent of $24,453,676.67 today (24,453,676.67 x 30% sales tax = $7,336,103.00)
  23. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 01:52 PM) It would probably be a disaster. Any regressive tax is not what we need to be doing. I dont know on the final outcome, but the transition would be hell.
  24. The "FairTax" has really been in the spotlight recently with the surge of Mike Huckabee in the Republican primaries, I wonder what your thoughts of it are. I am actually going to start a 3 month tracking of my expenses vs income and see just how a "FairTax" would effect me (middle class).
