QUOTE(Cknolls @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) Gas City is one station I know of that sells E85 and it is .20 cheaper than regular unleaded. Ok, so let's do the math.... Long DIstance Driving $3 per gallon / 30 MPG (regular gas) = $0.10 per mile $2.8 per gallon / 25.5 MPG (with E85) = $0.11 per mile City Driving $3 per gallon / 17 MPG (regular gas) = 0.176 per mile $2.8 per gallon / 14.45 MPG (with E85) = $0.19 per mile hmmm..... actually costs slightly more to use E85.
-
Interesting note: My wifes family is from Iowa, so we head out there about every other month. Typically, their 87 octain stuff is cheaper than it is in Chicago. On top of that, their 89 octain is 10% eth and $.10 cheaper!

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 12:04 PM) yea. My Explorer gets definitely 10-15% less. It sucks. Thanks for the article. How much does a gallon of E85 cost you? Just curious how it compares to regular gas.
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) So in your opinion, do you think ethonal has a negative impact on mileage? I don't know enough about it... and it seems like you might. E85 information

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) In older forms, or more specifically when ethanol is made from corn, you'd have been 100% right. But there are new methods of producing ethanol coming on line which have the potential to turn that around. Brazil, for example, uses ethanol as the majority of it's fuel right now, and they produce it from sugar cane, which is roughly 7 times as efficient as producing it from corn. Furthermore, refinements in the processing of corn have actually made that form more efficient as well, such that the energy gap in using corn-based ethanol is either shrinking or completely gone. Interesting note: You'd think that if we used American grown products to produce ethanol, it would bolster our economy and really give a kick to our farming industry. I heard a saying (I'm paraphrasing here), that as farmers go, so goes the economy. meaning, if the farmers depress, the US will depress.
-
I'm going to get on my soapbox for 30 seconds here and just say 3 simple things... All new cars should be FlexFuel (E85) - Mandated by Government Governemnt should help Ethanol replace gas (even if they FORCE oil companies to invest their rediculous profits into Ethanol plants) Government needs to invest HEAVLY into Hydrogen research and development.

QUOTE(MEANS @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) windblows and best should never be used in the same sentence. mac all the way I agree 100% with that. However, he said he wanted part of it for gaming. Which is a good chance that the games he likes to play are not made for Mac.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) Buy a Mac. And add BootCamp with WIndows XP. You get the best of both worlds

Soldier Field Loses Historic Landmark Status
HuskyCaucasian replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 06:40 PM) Part of the deal to let them renovate Soldier Field was that they couldn't change the name for thirty years or something like that. I thought it was they couldnt sell the team for 30 years. Something about the new stadium rasing the team's value and the city didn't want to be used to raise a teams value in an attempt to sell it and make a boat load of money. -
Bonds: Passing Aaron not likely
HuskyCaucasian replied to Phuck the Cubs's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 04:55 PM) ^^^^^^^^^ I think people would be amazed to find out how racist Bonds is. Some of the stuff I've heard from ex-teammates is pathetic, in regards to how he acts. DO you know how much crap BigMac would have gotten if he said "I cant wait to pass the black guy Aaron. i dont car about Ruth. i want the black guy"? He'd have been beaten to a pulp. But Bonds says he wants to only pass the white guy because he donst like white guys... nothing is said. What a double standard! -

Who you crappin' Barry? THe ONLY reason you are still playing is becaus eyou want to hit more homers. This has NOTHING to do with a World Series. If you were smart, you'd realize that you bearly being able to play is probably hurting the team! -

Soldier Field Loses Historic Landmark Status
HuskyCaucasian replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Confederate_48 @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 07:10 AM) Isnt the historic landmark status what kept them from trying to rename the stadium too ?? I don't think so, but I could be wrong. I think they didn't sell the naming rights because of the flack they would have gotten for taking the "soldier" name off the stadum. Direspecting the soldiers aftall. -
I have a book called "The Physics of Baseball". It's very scientific, but part of the book is dedicated to the "rising fastball". It's VERY interesting. To expand on what the above article says, basically the when a ball rotates faster it doesnt drop as much as a ball that rotates less. So, that rotation causes it flatten out and seem like it "jumped" because your brain is preprogrammed to how it SHOULD be dropping.

Soldier Field Loses Historic Landmark Status
HuskyCaucasian replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
How ironic.... They couldn't level the place and do the whole stadium corrrectly because of Landmark status. Now because of what they had to do to shoe-horn it in there... it lost it anyways! lol -
My opinion... over the next several years get fiber to every house in America. If it's "too exspensive" to provide fiber to rural area's, then Wi-Max (or something similar) must be offered. We're "supposedly" going to be pulling out of Iraq, use some of that money to get this done!
-
I found this article and it really got my attention. While we fight a war in Iraq and continue to freak out over oil... we are forgetting about our technology development. Specifically... the internet. We Need a National Infrastructure Initiative
