2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
Underrated by stats or underrated by fandom? Ted Williams is overrated by fans but his career is underrated because without WWII and Korea stints, he would have blown Babe Ruth off of the top of every stat record.

Replacing Jenks
QUOTE (The Gooch @ May 9, 2010 -> 09:25 PM) I don't care if we don't have another decent lefty, Thornton deserves the closer role. There is no one else from the bullpen that I feel safe with a one or two run lead. With Matt in there, I feel like we win the game. With anyone else, its 50-50. You may not care, but the people who make the final decision do care.

Replacing Jenks
QUOTE (fathom @ May 9, 2010 -> 09:22 PM) Wait, you're saying we're wrong cause we want to see our best reliever be the closer? http://www.sabernomics.com/sabernomics/ind...reliever-usage/ Honestly, I agree. The best reliever should be the one to pitch in the tough situations, not just when it's the 9th inning.

Replacing Jenks
There's a chance that it could be Putz as the 1st option because he's a non lefty veteran.

Dallas Braden (Oakland) Throws A Perfect Game vs Tampa Bay
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 9, 2010 -> 07:49 PM) Similar type of pitcher. Mediocre at best fastball with a very good straight change. Yeah, also a lefty who works quick.

I watched the last inning or so, and he reminded me a lot of Buerhle.

QUOTE (Wanne @ May 9, 2010 -> 06:40 PM) please...I don't want to see Lilly anywhere near the major league roster. Sarcasm, Wanne.

Winter/Spring 2009-10 TV thread
QUOTE (Brian @ May 9, 2010 -> 06:37 PM) They have done different variations of that skit in the past. Shows how much that I've watched SNL in the last... 5 years.

Winter/Spring 2009-10 TV thread
I'm sorry but the Lawrence Welk sketch cracked me up when the "special" one stuck her baby hands in the guy's mouth. But, I wouldn't be surprised if NBC gets nasty letters from some Special Needs Family group over that sketch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgH-_Ctwi-g

That link sucks. They'll only show the 9th inning.

Blue Jays @ White Sox - 1:05 CSN
Replacing Jenks as the closer was a year overdue; but, Ozzie to his credit/detriment is a loyal guy. Because of that, guys like Timo, Jenks, Kotsay, etc. have jobs longer than some people think that they deserve.

Blue Jays @ White Sox - 1:05 CSN
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2010 -> 05:43 PM) Putz hasn't shown me anything either. You have to say screw it with the LH/RH matchup for a week and give it to Thornton. He's the only one who's earned it. Him or Santos, and I'm not sure Santos is ready to take it yet True about Putz, but he'd be Ozzie's first choice. He's married to the LH/RH routine, so Thornton probably isn't happening. Especially since Williams has been so awful and he's the only other lefty in the 'pen. Yeah, Santos would be my choice as well, but again, I agree with you that he's probably not ready yet.

I wonder if I can sell my set of War Machine comics on eBay now?

Blue Jays @ White Sox - 1:05 CSN
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2010 -> 05:38 PM) There's no way you keep Bobby as the closer after this. Yeah. You might as well go with Putz as the closer and see how it goes.

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 9, 2010 -> 05:34 PM) Don't let anyone's comments in this thread keep you from seeing Iron Man 2. Dumping Terrence Howard was a bad idea, though.

All I can say is, that bringing in Linebrink to stop the Jenks bleeding is like using paint thinner to douse a fire.

Sandoval wants Sox to move out of Camelback Ranch
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2010 -> 04:36 PM) Really? The Cell is built to be a 60 year facility? I was figuring by 2020 that the team would start lobbying for a new ballpark. The thing is, they've done a lot of updating and construction on it in the last 7 or 8 years, so I think that it might be at least 20-25 more years until the ownership group starts thinking rebuild. If I know how Reinsdorf/Einhorn etc think, they'd be more inclined to update every ten years or so rather than let it go to pot and ask the city for a new building (especially after the Springfield Miracle in 1988). They bought into and personally saw what the "Palace of Baseball" turned into after 20-25 years of people not giving a s*** and they know how long that a bad reputation takes to rebuild.

Gordon Beckham: What To Do?
That's true. Lillibridge can hit a lot better than Vizquel...

Gordon Beckham: What To Do?
What about De Aza? He'd be a real spark off of the bench for bunting and pinch running.
