  2. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 06:25 PM) That young whipper snapper Beckham is trying to cause problems again I'm stunned.
  3. Feel up Florida?
  4. Whack The Snake
  5. Squeeze the Weasel?
  6. There's got to be a hitting coach out there who can fix his swing.
  7. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 01:45 AM) You can consider yourself very fortunate indeed that you didn't have to endure 1970 (56-106). We had the likes of Bobby Knoop, Syd O'Brien, John "Pineapple" Matias, Bob Spence, Chuck Brinkman, Jerry Janeski, Billy Wynne, Danny Murphy, Jerry Arrigo....I could go on but it's depressing me. The 1988 and 1989 seasons almost made me deny to people that I was a Sox fan.
  8. I'd contact Brooks Boyer (bboyer@chisox.com) and see if he can connect you with Buehrle's agent. Might as well do it right.
  9. Good luck getting an autograph if you're over 14.
  10. Having a TV in your bedroom is bad for your sleeping time/love life though. Move it downstairs.
  11. $23 is a lot better than the hassle of driving past the stadium, finding parking downtown, walking to an El station, then spending 20-30 minutes plus on a crowded El Train doubling back. Anywhere you park downtown will probably cost $20+ as well. Drive up to Michigan City, Gary, or East Chicago and take the South Shore in if you want, but two people is still close to $23.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 12:37 AM) Or they can pick up the option and then trade him to us... Which would cost Hudson, Flowers and others probably.
  13. I don't believe that this plate appearances clause option year is covered by any Philly money. NYM paid the Sox for Castro - i.e. he was free. Pena makes pre-arbitration, I believe. So, minimal cash was added there.
  14. TB would have to decline his $10 mil option and the Sox would probably need to offer more than any team in the majors - most likely $15+ mil for 5 years.
  15. QUOTE (rangercal @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) WAIT WHAT? I added the
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 10:25 PM) Marte might have beeen our closer for a couple of weeks, at most. And Gordon wasn't IT for very long either, that season. You forgot to mention Bill James, he had some very decent years with the White Sox, especially 1983. Gordon had the most saves in 2003 and Marte was in double digits. Bob James was his name; and yes, I did include him - he was the main closer in 1985 and parts of '86 and '87. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 09:01 PM) I remember in 1997 with Roberto Hernandez, we went through Bill Simas, Matt Karchner, Bobby Howry, Keith Foulke, Tom Gordon, Damaso Marte, Billy Koch, Shingo Takatsu and Dustin Hermanson before we got another good closer in Jenks. In fact, there was a deluge of semi-questionable closers prior to Bobby Thigpen like Bob James, Ron Reed, Dennis Lamp, Salome Barojas, Ed Farmer, Mike Proly, Lerrin LaGrow, Jim Willoughby, and Dave Hamilton. Dennis Lamp and Salome Barojas were the Sox's closers in '83. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHW/1983.shtml
  17. QUOTE (Chet Lemon @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) Foulke was actually an excellent pitcher during his White Sox tenure--mostly during the heyday of the steriod era. He put up very comparable numbers to Jenks. Foulke's White Sox stats: 0.84 HR/9, 2.11 BB/9, 8.71 K/9, 0.98 WHIP Jenks' MLB numbers: 0.60 HR/9, 2.90 BB/9, 8.60 K/9, 1.17 WHIP Foulke wasn't a power closer like Hernandez or Jenks though.

    QUOTE (Nixon @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) Have no fear, District 9 opens soon. Guantanamo Bay allegory?
  21. Who's interested? We'll probably put a few leagues together this year; depending on poster interest.
