  1. QUOTE (kageman129 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 08:37 PM) Right, but I would've loved to see Quentin go to Phillie and Brown go to Chicago . . . Instead, Brown is on the bench now. Phillies fans are saying Brown will shift to LF? May as well. Ibanez is worse than Pierre. Brown is more than athletic enough to handle LF.
  2. Gavin really does have gonads. Unfortunately, there's our offense.
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 08:33 PM) That's because they develop a lot of prospects. If we did that, we could cull a few out to other teams, instead of trading the only/best ones we have. Precisely.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 08:28 PM) And we get to see most of the Phillies system playing for the Blue Jays and Astros. I'll take that tradeoff.
  5. This, my friends, is why I "overrate" prospects. In the last three years the Phillies have acquired Lee, Oswalt, Halladay and now Pence. And they still get to keep Brown.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) The way Morel has been used this season, it feels like the Sox don't see him in their longterm future. Can't blame them for not wanting a singles-hitting 3B. His defense can only be so good. Wakefield going for his 200th win tonight, btw. Brian Anderson says defense > pitcher-like offense You're right.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 01:25 PM) That would be 3 straight starts of hitting Lester hard. How many times would it have to happen to not be a fluke? Sometimes a great pitcher has a team he struggles against. If baseball is funny like that, why can't something like that happen in the playoffs? We aren't talking about 162 games either, we are talking about a single 5-game series. If the Sox pitch well, which can happen, they still have no chance to beat the mighty Red Sox? I never said it couldn't happen. I said I don't believe it would happen.. 3 straight starts? What's that? One start a year. That sample size is too small for me.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 01:23 PM) So basically it all comes back to saying anything can happen over the course of 6 games. Correct? As long as the games are played, yes, anything can happen. I'm not, and never have, argued that. I don't think we could beat the '98 Yankees. But as long as they play the games, there's a shot. If that's enough for you to hang on to, great.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) You are arguing against yourself now. Match ups are more important than talent levels. 6 games is not enough to properly gauge how you match-up with a particular team. By your logic we can beat the Red Sox, Yankees or Rangers but not the Twins or Royals.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) But wouldn't those 6 games mean more than the other ones since Boston is our opponent in those 6 games? I mean look at that series against the Twins when they had their AAA team against us. On paper there was a ridiculous disparity of talent in our favor and didn't they sweep us? Baseball is stupid like that. 162 games. s*** happens that really doesn't make sense all the time. October would be totally different. If Boston was a division foe then I could properly gauge how we truly match-up with them. 6 games is simply not enough. I can only go by overall records and personnel.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) Even if they roughed up Lester badly? Again? Yes. Because roughing up Lester again would be nothing more to me then a fluke. We've been shutdown by Bruce f***ing Chen more than once. Baseball is funny like that. But over the course of 162, that usually tell you the truth. That said, I'm not even sure we're better than the Tigers. This is pointless to be talking Red Sox and the ALDS.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 01:03 PM) Would you change your tune if we swept or took 2 of 3 this weekend? Nope. 6 regular season games out of 162 don't tell much.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 12:48 PM) Relative records don't matter nearly as much as match ups. Or do you suddenly feel better about playing the Twins because we have a better record than them? I don't like the match-ups, either. The talent gap is too wide in this case.
  14. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 12:13 PM) Shedding Rios' salary is not areason to trade Thornton for someone we probably can't use. I think Rios can be dealt by himself. Anything is possible. I was told sometime earlier no one would take Teahan either I just threw up in my mouth. What are you talking about? What do you mean somebody will take Rios by himself? You can't be serious. If you're serious then I'm going down the street to this fat girl's house that likes me to have fun with her because fat girls never say no.
  15. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) Dont you actually have to put the ball in play for BABIP to matter?
  16. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 12:10 PM) The Pirates were mentioned once a possible suitor, but I find that hard to believe. They could make a minor move, like for Derrick Lee. However, they must have a decent farm system since they've been in a rebuilding phase longer than many SoxTalk posters have been alive. It's a lot better than decent. But it would be foolish for them to make any major moves. They're not going anywhere in the postseason if they get there. Which I don't think they will. They need to stick with their current plan.
  17. Yikes! Would that be the best defensive OF ever? Pence, Stubbs and Bruce? Although Pence's arm would be kinda wasted in LF.
  18. The Reds primary focus has been SP. I haven't heard much about them looking for bats. Though I'd love either one of their two catching studs.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) Hopefully the Phils get pissed, call KW and offer Brown+ and we take it. That would be ridiculous. With you 100% there.
  20. QUOTE (Sockin @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:40 AM) @SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman word is, #astros dont love #phillies prospects (maybe not even brown). this is becoming real soap opera. #youngandrestless We'll take them Philly, come here! Somebody needs to remind Ed Wade that he's horrible and that franchise is by far the most pathetic in baseball. That original Phillies package of Cowart, Singelton and another high upside prospect was a pretty damn good offer.
  21. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:37 AM) And if Dunn and Rios begin to hit anywhere near the career averages down the stretch, we'll be a respectable offense again. If I had a dollar for every time this sentence has been repeated I could buy my favorite pornstar (Lorena Sanchez) for one night.
  22. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:34 AM) With the way Danks is pitching now, he is a stopper. And he is a guy who pitches well in high-pressured games. He is the anti-Gavin Floyd. Yes, if Danks keeps this up the remainder of the year then I'd feel a little more confident. He's looked terrific his last couple starts.
  23. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:27 AM) Sports history is full of upsets where the chances were much lower. If you don't try, there's no point in playing the game. When give the choice between manning up and trying and putting my tail between my legs in going home, I tend to favor trying. I didn't say forfeit the series were it to come to fruition. I'm just giving my opinion on what I think would happen without letting my White Sox fandom influence me.
  24. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:22 AM) With a rotation of Danks, Buehrle, Floyd, and Peavy, the Sox have a legit chance against anybody. Peavy? And let's not get crazy here. We're not talking Halladay, Hamels, Lee and Oswalt. Or the video game that was the Giants rotation last year. I think we have a solid rotation. But there's no stopper(s) in this rotation.
