QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:14 AM) Turner called up to pitch today for kitties. Showcasing him? lol. He wouldn't be pitching today if he were about to be traded.
-
The Braves are more protective of their pitching prospects than I am a bottle of absolute vodka. They could've had Pence if they wanted. They could have CQ if they want. But with Lowe/Hudson both FAs at the end of next year, they're extremely hesitant to deal any of these guys. I can see why they don't want to deal Teheran, though.

QUOTE (Real @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 01:18 AM) be hilarious if KW swept in and traded Sale and whatever else for Jiminez According to reports, the Rockies want four major league or near major league ready players for Ubaldo. That is most definitely not us. I wouldn't be shocked if the Rangers made a play. They're the only team with the system and the need for a clear-cut #1 starter.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 08:46 AM) In his 1,633 AB with the Sox, Quentin has hit 103 homers. That is one homer in every 15.85 at bats. Add in his RBI totals and I think most would concede that Carlos is a legitimate slugger. Pence is a consistent 25 HR per season hitter. He's not a slugger. RBI is a team dependent stat. The Astros have deployed some of the worst lineups in baseball for quite some time now. Carlos has a little more power. Not much more. And you're seriously underestimating the difference in their defensive abilities. You could legitimately argue that Pence is the best defensive RF in the game. And now that he's not stuck in the baseball abyss of suckage that is Houston, his skills will be more on display for everybody to see.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 08:35 AM) And Hunter Pence plays good D, better OBP, better average, and is good for around 25 HR and 80 RBI. The big problem being Q's health. If he were consistently healthy, we'd get whatever we want for him. And he's got one more year of team control than Carlos does. Current contract status is always key in cases like these.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 10:42 PM) That seems a little harsh doesn't it? I don't literally mean that. But I do think they're the most obnoxious fanbase there is. -
Rumor: Rios/Thornton to Brewers for Gamel?

QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 10:00 PM) My sources tell me that several teams are interested in Alex Rios right now and are willing to send the Sox two lesser prospects with the Sox absorbing 110 % of Rios' contract. I love this guy. I still can't believe he predicted the Adam Dunn suckfest. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:42 PM) You moan about our lousy offense and want to trade CQ, one of the two guys on our team that can hit? Confusing to me. 3 hits tonight and we win. We'll obviously take it, but wow, our offense is abysmal. Our offense sucks with CQ. Unless Dunn, Rios (barf), and 3-4 other guys start hitting at the same time, we're not going anywhere. I don't think this team has a chance in hell of getting to the World Series. If you can get pieces to set your franchise up from '12 and beyond, you pounce. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:57 PM) I dont understand, I thought the Red Sox had an amazing offense and the White Sox only had a 10 percent chance to win and Gavin was a mental midget in important games. Does not compute But there was no Agon! He's worth 5 runs by himself. Anyway, I knew this was coming. Hey, seems like even the best teams have that one annoying mosquito they can't seem to squash. -

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) F*** Red Sox Nation!!! Oh yes. Please believe me when I say this. I respect the f*** out of that organization. But Red Sox fans? I'd rather see the Cubs win a title before the Red Sox win another. Red Sox fans are disgusting and they need to be executed. They think the baseball world revolves around them. They're much worse than Yankees fans. -
Which players will be traded before Sunday at 4 pm

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) I'm not sure they're actually ready to deal Turner for Ubaldo Jimenez though. It will be interesting to see who they do end up with. Seems like Kuroda wants to stay in the NL. Someone along the lines of a Jeremy Guthrie. If the Tigers get Ubaldo then I'm done with the sport of baseball. Or at least I would call for some kinda independent investigation. Their farm sucks. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) Thorton. Age and contract and bullpen already good means dealing from strength. That's the key. I don't see anybody trading for just Thornton due to the money he'll be making starting next year. Especially with Bell still out there. I see Heath Bell getting traded. Maybe Upton. Other than that, I don't expect much. The supply just isn't there this year. -

Unless the Braves look at what the Giants and Phillies have done and say to themselves "WE HAVE TO MAKE A MOVE!", I don't see anything happening. This is absolutely no credit to the White Sox as a whole. But this division is f***ing awful. May as well go for it and if you come up short, shop EVERYBODY. f*** '12. -

I wonder do Red Sox fans look at us the way we look at a team like the Royals. "We blitz the f*** out of everybody. But we can't seem to beat those mediocre White Sox." They would be a lot more vulgar, of course. -

Beachy was dominant tonight. Sucks that the Braves are so unwilling to part with any of their 40 stud pitching 'spects for CQ. -

I still hate this offense. But Gavin manned the f***ed up this night. Can we, um, possibly go over .500 tomorrow night? -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:09 PM) Selena is growing into such a hottie. Man, she is f***ing annoying, dude. I hate her. She's got nothing on Miranda Cosgrove. Not a damn thing.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:06 PM) I think teams like Quentin, it's just that Pence was such a perfect fit for what the Phillies wanted. I've been on a couple Philly boards the last few days. And take this with a grain of salt. But it appears it was Pence or bust for Philly. -
QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) I'm happy for the Phillies, hopefully this helps them beat Boston in the Series... Now, Atlanta... get desperate! Happy for them? I f***ing hate them. Respect? Sure. But I hate them like I hate Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:03 PM) It's definitely shaping up that he'll be kept and then traded in the offseason. That might be best for the organization, as you wouldn't "white flag" this season and then try to get some cost-controlled help for next year. It wouldn't shock me if Viciedo's injury is worse than they've let on, but we don't want to announce it until after the deadline. It is a little discouraging that while teams were obviously 'interested', nobody really came off as wanting to pony up for CQ. Have to imagine durability concerns and his current contract status played a big role. -

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 08:57 PM) Now that the Phillies got their guy and it doesn't look like Atlanta will give much of anything, how about the Sox go on a tear? This. Unless you can get some high-end talent for CQ, you're better off keeping him. -

QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 08:44 PM) I don't get this deal at all for the Astros. Congrats to the phillies for getting a great ball player without having to give up any MLB ready talent. Gotta see who the other two PTBNL are. That said, the Astros are probably at least half a decade away from competing again. Yeah, ideally you want guys who are on the brink. But in their current position, they just need high-end talent. And they got that in Cosart and Singelton, at least.
