  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:56 AM) See, on this one, that's a difference...those guys are solid arms but are several years away. The Phils have already established they'll move talent and arms to get better now. They're not going to give up on all of them and they'll play hardball, but if they think it's the deal that puts them over the top they'll do it. I actually think a bigger issue for them is money. They've already spend a fortune, Howard's contract only goes up from here, and they're only about $1 million away from this year's luxury tax threshhold. If they acquire Carlos straight up, they're paying the tax. They've got a big decision to make on Oswalt after the year. He's 34 and has been on the DL for over a month. And he wasn't pitching that well (by his standards) before the injury. Hamels is 'bout to get PAID! Halladay and Lee are obviously going nowhere. But that's $40+ million between the two of them for the foreseeable future. I'm not saying they wouldn't trade any of their top guys. But they would have to be overwhelmed. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:57 AM) If the Sox are trading away Q, they shouldn't give him away. But a package of 2 solid SP prospects, or one of those with a solid position player prospect, is probably close to what Q is worth. I'd expect Morel to hit similar to what he did in W/S in '09--.280 avg, .330 OBP, with 20 + 2b's, 10-15 HR's. With his stellar D, the sox don't need an upgrade at 3b for 2012 http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/pro...p?P=Brent-Morel This is awesome. Brent Morel actually posts here. What's goin' on? Why do you make Jeff Francoeur look like a disciplined hitter?
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:22 AM) I was making fun of foolish posters telling me Jackson was worth more than Colby f***ing Rasmus. Or that Jackson was worth one of the Yankee top prospects. The guy is a #4 starter who's about to become a FA in two months. You're not getting anything that on the surface appears to be of any value. KW f***ed up. I think it's time people come to that realization.
  3. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:44 AM) It's for the draft picks. If the Jays think the draft picks they obtain for Bell are better than prospects they give up, it makes sense for them in that way. It still makes no sense. Give up good prospects closer to the Show for unknown draft picks who will undoubtedly be further away than the guys you're giving up? I've really started to hate the trade deadline the last few years. Twitter has given the entire world a license to be stupid.
  4. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:30 AM) If the sox dealt with the Phils, the likely targets would be A+ SP's May, Cosart and Colvin. All are 21, 22 with good numbers. The sox are thin in SP in the A+, AA levels. Getting 2 of the 3 would be a decent package. A "decent" package? The Phillies aren't trading any of those guys for CQ, let alone two of them. Especially with all the wear and tear on Oswalt's arm and Hamels hitting FA after next season. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:31 AM) Brent Morel should be more than fine for 2012. Define "more than fine"?
  5. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:50 AM) read over on the Blue Jays forum that if the deal is true that they would like to see Edwin + Eric Thames or Edwin + reliever flipped over for Rasmus, that would be really dumb to see KW just give Edwin to see him dealt immediately for the guy he wanted. Blue Jays have been noted to have interested in Rasmus as well. Can you link the forum? I've been looking for a Toronto forum and couldn't find anything.
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:22 AM) Peavy much more so than Rios. We gave up nothing to get Rios. It was a total gamble and so far, it's been bad for 2 halves and good for 1. Peavy, on the other hand, I will admit to being a failure thus far. Then again, who would have predicted he tear apart his lat? It's not like he's had consistent shoulder or elbow injuries. Peavy was hurt in '08 and injured at the time of the trade. And then there's the contract. And there was part of me that always wondered about the Petco effect. Though I will admit I was excited about the trade at the time. Man if we could've gotten Haren instead. I thought he was better before the trade.
  7. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:13 AM) This is so incredibly hypocritical it boggles my mind. You obviously dislike KW for some reason. Just say it. Because there's no sensible reason for you to be saying any of this. You can't pretend you know so much as a fan and then turn around and say, "Well, I'm not a GM!" "Boy, I really liked what KW did with this team. Should be a hell of a ballclub." "Oh wait, the guys are underachieving and a lot of them are having the worst years of their careers. KW sucks!" I'll give you Dunn, as most people would. But Peavy/Rios were big time risks. Both have failed miserably.
  8. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:06 AM) I believe the Jays are baseball's best drafting team for like the last decade or two (in terms of major leaguers produced). The GM changes, but they have a core group of scouts that doesn't who ultimately recommend the players that end up being successful. Which is why I don't believe this for a second. I could see KW doing something stupid like this. As all he's done for 4 years now is turn us into the AL version of the Cubs/Astros. The Blue Jays farm is so stacked that they could produce guys that could probably equal or exceed whatever Jackson could give them for 10 cents on the dollar. Teahen? lol. Not happening.
  9. It's rare to see a trade proposal (a legitimate one) that really makes no sense for both sides. If AA were our GM and KW were the Toronto GM, I might believe this. AA has done a tremendous job in a really short amount of time of maximizing their top trade chips, shedding sunk costs and building up what many believe is the second best farm after Tampa. I don't believe he would do something stupid like this.
  10. That'd suck to get screwed by the Nationals again.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) If you're the Yankees would you trade Austin Romine for him then? Knowing you still have Montero and Sanchez down there? Supply and demand dictates that players don't always get equal value in return, in either direction. It's pretty much popular opinion that Montero's future is at DH. Top catching prospects don't grow on trees. Not saying either (Romine or Sanchez) is untouchable, obviously. But for a couple months of EJ? I don't see it. I actually don't anticipate much of anything happening anywhere. I expect Beltran to get traded. Possibly Heath Bell. Maybe some smaller moves (i.e. bullpen additions) But teams just don't want to, or are in no position to, trade prospects right now. And that makes for a rather boring trade season.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 12:25 PM) I believe he's signed through 2015 at a relative bargain. Even if they don't plan on competing until 2013/2014 that would still give them 2-3 years with him on their team. He's just so good already that I don't know if you can do that. Even if the Yankees offered Banuelos, Betances and Nova, can you really make the trade? Hernandez is barely older than them as is and at the end of teh day they are all still question marks. Even their catching trio have their questions. As good as the Yankee prospects are, none are considered close to sure things I don't think. Just a really hard deal to make if you're Seattle. You'd have to get an absolute king's ransom (no pun intended) to deal him Hence me asking what team wouldn't empty out their system for him?
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) He gives you a better shot than anyone who doesn't have initials for a name on the NYY. That is the point. Not at the expense of a top prospect. You trade elite prospects for Cliff Lee's and CC Sabathia's. Not Edwin Jackson.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 12:04 PM) The Yankees could give a s*** less about the playoffs. They need to win the World Series or they are considered a failure. That's why they are looking for more help. I think you missed my point. I know they don't give a s*** about just making the playoffs. They're already in the playoffs. Now it's about matching up with the Red Sox and Rangers. If you're Cashman, do you feel Edwin Jackson, the same guy that's been traded four times in 5-6 years or whatever, the same guy who's really only put together one great half of consistent pitching in his career, gives you a better chance against two powerhouse offenses? And if that's worth a top prospect. I'm not saying they wouldn't have any interest. But some of the names being thrown around here. Please.
  15. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 11:44 AM) Its the difference between getting a multi-year deal at 33 instead of 34. I think his agents probably have some metrics that say he is better off hitting free agency this season I would guess, especially given the uptake in production he has had over the last six weeks. Sox payroll couldn't support him though and we dont have the prospects to get the Cubs to eat some money. He's 33. Injury prone. Defense has been eroding for years. He wouldn't get anymore than a 3-year deal, IMO. But hey, I'd definitely take him for two months if he dropped that option.
  16. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) Rosenthal per MLBTR "If traded, Ramirez would likely want his new club to drop his $16MM option for 2012 so that he can hit the open market after this season, Rosenthal reports. Ramirez's '12 option technically becomes guaranteed if he gets traded. " http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/aramis_ramirez/ Is Aram taking stupid pills? WTF? lol. I need to see a direct quote from him. He'd probably get half that on the open market. He could then hit the market after '12. Not like any team is about to sign him for 5-6 years.
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) Isn't it amazing that the M's were predicted to possibly win the AL West by some people last year? They were the poster boy of sabermetric principles with Jack Z making what appeared to be good move after good move, but all those good moves haven't turned into much. Justin Smoak's the only positive thing to come out of it. Seemed like a decent plan. lol. Although most knew they would be offensively challenged. But this is f***ing ridiculous. 4 runs is an explosion for them.
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 11:30 AM) Jackson would arguably be a 2/3 on the Yankees. Would you really start Freddy and Colon if you think you are a World Series contender? I know they have been good this year, just seems like a wreck waiting to happen. Would you really trust Edwin on the October stage against those two offenses? Even if theoretically you could say he'd be a slight upgrade. It's certainly not worth a top prospect. I'd honestly call up the Mariners and say pick any three guys from our system. Obviously talking about King Felix here.
  19. Yikes. I'm behind. I didn't even realized he had signed. Must've been in the last week or so? Anyway, this was the one pick I liked. I'll definitely be tracking him.
  20. I really don't see anything happening here. The Yankees are a different beast. They don't have to do a thing and they're still going to the playoffs. It's WS or bust with them. Does Edwin Jackson give them a better chance of matching up with Texas and Boston? They're not giving up a top prospect for a #4 starter.
  21. He's not getting traded to anybody. $16 million dollar option vests if he's traded.
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 08:49 AM) Yup. And I believe they were only 2 games out then. Add in a 12-game Rangers win streak and now they are 15.5 back. That's how you blow a division in 2 weeks. I thought it was nuts to even suggest. But honestly, if you're the Mariners, do you at least consider trading Felix? That organization is in complete shambles right now. Their lineup rivals any from the dead ball era. Not much of a system to speak of. Ackley/Pineda appear to be legitimate building blocks. But they're so far away right now that Felix could possibly mean more to you in a trade than he does pitching for you every fifth day with no realistic chance of competing. What team wouldn't empty out their farm for him?
  23. KW also said he wouldn't trade Gio Gonzalez a second time.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 05:45 PM) LAD We better be getting Kershaw back.
