  1. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:22 AM) So you don't think anything could happen then? Well this isn't college football. I mean, as long as games are played, yes, technically anything can happen. By my estimation, the probability of this White Sox team beating this Red Sox team in October is less than 10%. And I think I'm being generous.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:20 AM) Jon Lester's career ERA vs. the Sox is 5.94, including a 7-run drubbing this season. Beckett is a stud. Then what? Buchholz may not even come back this season. Wakefield? Andrew Miller? They had won 13 of 16 before the White Sox swept them at Fenway. The Red Sox are a very good team, but it's ridiculous to say that the White Sox don't have any chance to beat them in a 5-game series. How many starters do you need in a best of 5? Only 3. And I haven't heard anything about Buchholz not coming back.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) For a season? Absolutely. But for a period of 5 games? There's absolutely no business even insinuating that they couldn't The White Sox haven't been over .500 since April. Boston is playing at a damn near .700 clip since mid-April. Yes, it's painfully obvious that they would be massive underdogs.
  4. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:16 AM) The only evidence we have to this fact is how the teams have played against each other, and the White Sox flat out dominated. Boston would be favored and rightfully so, but to say the White Sox have no shot is extreme. Not if you believe one team is clearly superior to the other. I don't believe any central team has a chance against Boston or NY. Yes, anything can happen. But going in, I don't think we'd have a shot.
  5. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) Well, we played them well after their awful start. In fact, they were 13-3 in their last 16 games before facing the Sox. We still haven't gotten s*** from Dunn, our third baseman, our second baseman, barely our LF and yet we still outscored them 24-14. In the last four years, the Sox are 16-9 against the Red Sox. I don't care about any year prior to this year. This is by far the best Red Sox team since '07. Until this team blows right past .500 and consistently scores at a 4.5-5.0 run a game clip, there's no business at even insinuating that they could run with Boston.
  6. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:05 AM) We are 3-0 against them this season, all three in Boston. This series should tell some more about the match-up, but 10% is way to low. We always play the Red Sox well. That's nice. I still think we'd have no chance. One 3-game series in 4 months doesn't do a whole lot for me. Boston is 62-29 since that 2-10 start. And they still haven't gotten jack s*** from Carl Crawford yet.
  7. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:02 AM) How nice would that be to have four potential stud pitchers almost ML-ready? Sigh. Granted we probably could have said that after 2000 with Rauch, Ginter and Malone to add to Garland/Buehrle/Wells. Braves been doin' this s*** for twenty years. They effectively exhaust every avenue in finding legitimate talent.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 10:58 AM) IF we made the playoffs (not likely) we would be extremely dangerous based on our pitching alone. Problem is our pitching won't be facing mediocre AL central lineups. Our chances against Boston would be at about 10%.
  9. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 10:56 AM) If anyone thinks we have a chance of anything more than a division title, they are nuts In before '06 Cardinals reference. Edit: wasn't quick enough.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 10:48 AM) @Buster_ESPN Buster Olney Braves view those four guys as a hugely important part of their future; I seriously doubt they would move them for any available player. He's referencing Teheran, Vizcaino, Minor and Delgado If true, then move on from the Braves and focus on Philly. If you can't get at least one stud pitching prospect for CQ then we're better off keeping him.
  11. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) is pence a lot better than quentin? since you hear more about the phills and braves fightining over him and not much about quentin CQ has a little more power. Pence has the advantage everywhere else. Plus Pence is durable and under team control for two more years after this one.
  12. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 10:16 AM) "Frank Wren's dignity" has been edited out. Instead it says Jason Heyward and Greg Maddux.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 10:14 AM) The prospects are OK, but I'm not very interested in Frank Wren's dignity. Minor has #5 starter written all over him (#4 at best). Don't even know who the other two scrubs are.
  14. QUOTE (Sockin @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 10:11 AM) Everyone looks at Carlos' Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Quentin Jeff Schultz says it isn't true though. lol. That would be a terrible package.
  15. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:45 AM) how about Quentin for Jayson Heyward, now that would be something I wouldn't think of it unless they took AJ and gave us McCann as well.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 10:01 AM) But having nothing to do with his BABIP being abnormally high or his BB/9 being a full walk better than his career average? BABIP can fluctuate quite a bit from year to year. His K's are down and he's improved with his control (though his command sucks). His HR rate is WAYYYYYYYY down.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:53 AM) 2010: 3.17 FIP 2011: 3.21 FIP And that's due to his HR/FB ratio being abnormally low.
  18. QUOTE (gatnom @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:48 AM) Edwin Jackson with the White Sox in 2010: 3.24 ERA. Edwin Jackson with the White Sox in 2011: 3.92 ERA. I'd say that constitutes as reverting to a lesser form. And only due to him pitching very well against Detriot and Cleveland's AA lineup has he finally gotten that era under 4. He's the very definition of inconsistent. And he always will be. lol@whoever signs him to a 4 year, $45-50 million contract next winter.
  19. Why again did it take 58 years for Tampa to call up Jennings? All this guy's done in 6 games is collect 11 hits (including 3 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR). He's been on base a total of 15 times. Scored 5 runs. 4/5 in stolen base attempts. Yeah, call him up sooner and you might be a little closer to Bos/NY.
  20. QUOTE (heirdog @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:54 PM) I call BS on this rumor. You don't trade a key component of your team ( thorrnton) who could get you a hell of a lot more talent just to salary dump Rios. And worst of all you trade him for a mark teahan type who you just dumped. If brewers are even remotely interested in Rios, just waive him and let them put in a claim and have him. The Brewers are about to lose one of the elite run producers in the game after the season due to finances. You think they're going to claim Rios and pick up the rest of his contract? This very well and probably is BS. But if there's a shred of truth to this and we really want Rios gone, we're eatin' some money. A LOT of money.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 07:05 AM) Gavin Floyd is terrible half the time, John Danks has stretches where he's bad, Mark Buerhle goes on binges getting lit up at the end of the year, their numbers are usually around where they always are, and if they went 11-9 with a 3.66 ERA you would say they were pretty good. Edwin Jackson, as much as many hated the deal was pretty good with the White Sox. I think Daniel Hudson, had the deal not been made, would have had a tough time matching those numbers. You could be right. We'll never know. This is an organization that prides itself on giving perceived 'busts' second chances. Yet they gave up on Hudson after three starts. You don't sell out for Edwin Jackson. A guy that you knew had no future with the team after this year. It was blatantly shortsighted and a permanent black mark on Kenny's resume. And god help us if Holmberg turns out to be an effective starter at the major league level.
  22. Not that I believe any of this is true. But Rickie Weeks going down greatly alters whatever plan Milwaukee had.
  23. Rickie Weeks to the DL. Huge blow for the Brewers there.
  24. This Matt Moore of the Tampa system is somethin' else. 13 Ks in 8 innings tonight. 151 Ks in 115 1/3 IP. 8th round pick in '07.
  25. Remember when Justin Upton was 'available'? Yeah. And where are the Diamondbacks right now with Dan Haren at the front of their rotation? One of the worst trades of the last twenty years. That's not even KW bad.
