  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:31 PM) No mention of the Beltran deal yet in here? It's been mentioned in White Sox catch-all. And that's incredible that the Mets got Wheeler for two months of Beltran. Very short-sighted move by the Giants.
  2. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:24 PM) I don't see how they can trade TCQ at this point. They're 3.5 games back. They just won 4 out of 6 against the division leader. And they're still below .500. That's what's so infuriating about this team and just about every Sox team of the last 5 years. They're never bad enough in which you can just punt the season. Yet they're never good enough that you can legitimately place them in the upper echelon of contenders. Always somewhere in the middle.
  3. That article actually wasn't terrible.
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 08:31 PM) Mark Buehrle is the pretty obvious answer at this point. It's only been two starts, but JD has been electric since coming off the DL. If keeps this up, Ozzie would have a tough decision there.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:49 PM) Boston's offense is just insane Jacoby Ellsbury has officially become the top premier leadoff man in the AL. Maybe all of baseball. Only other guy in the discussion is Jose Reyes.
  6. It is 8:18 PM here in Chicago. And somebody suggested Chris Sale start game 1 of a playoff series.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) I know it's green, but I never said I was on break. I'm on strike from Kenny Williams. He needs to go. I'm out for 14 days if I don't like what I see by Sunday.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:52 PM) That million and a half bucks is actually a big deal with the Luxury Tax threshold in there. How close are they to this threshold? QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:52 PM) Dom Brown would be a sexy get. They wouldn't part with him for Halladay, no? I'd be shocked.
  9. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) So then his opinion of Stewart should not be discounted. Balta insinuated that because Keith Law 'always' hates on our prospects that him giving Stewart any love is a positive. I hate that.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) Yes that's right folks, we traded for a pitcher that Keith Law really likes. It's as controlled of an experiment as we can get. If Keith Law suddenly stops liking him...well, we'll know. Anyway, he hasn't really lost luster because of anything he's done. He's lost "luster" because the Jays traded for guys like Kyle Drabek and that moved him down their list. The Keith Law hate is so lame. This guy knows what he's talking about. Read his pieces or listen to his podcasts. He's not some imbecile who loves 29 other teams systems and makes it his mission from god to hate ours. EVERYBODY thinks our system sucks.
  11. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:43 PM) the good news: DeAza hits first MLB home run. The bad news: Kenny Williams just offered him a three-year extension. That was a good one.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) 2000: 0 2001: 3 2002: 1 2003: 2* (one was a 5 person combo) 2004: 1 2005: 0 2006: 1 2007: 3 2008: 2 2009: 2 2010: 6 2011: 3 I'd say it 's more that was 2010 was an aberration. It's still an accomplishment. I'd still include Gallaraga's and Halladay's playoff start (unless that was one of last year's 6?).
  13. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) Jayson Stark is saying that the Phillies offered up Jared Cosart, Jonathan Singleton, and another mid tier pitching prospect for Hunter Pence. Quentin is cheaper and has been more productive this year than Pence, but is worse defensively, but I would think a similar package could be had for CQ. Giving the Sox a solid bat in the system to replace PK and a starter for 2013. He's only cheaper by a million and a half bucks or so. And Pence is under team-control for two more years after this one. That's a big deal. He doesn't durable and an absolute stud in RF. I doubt they'd offer that same package (though I'd love it if they did) for CQ.
  14. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) Well Max k's the side. Not a good start for the new era Sox That's like the 17th no-hitter in the last two years. It's really not much of an accomplishment anymore.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:23 PM) Wow. Dunn is up to .161. He must be on fire. He got his one hit for the week last night. I predict another 10 Ks before he gets another. And I also predict Scherzer will K at least 10 guys. He's got his good stuff today.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) Zach Stewart better be something, or else we basically gave up Dan Hudson for Jason Frasor... This deal is KW cleaning up his own mess. Dan Hudson AND David Holmberg. I don't know why people keep forgetting about him.
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:19 PM) I like how we ditched Teahen's contract in this deal, but if adding Matt Thornton to what we already gave up would have netted us Colby Rasmus, I don't know WTF Kenny is/was thinking. Apparently Rios has scarred the franchise for life. Morons. Even if Rasmus flopped, you wouldn't have anywhere close to the financial obligations that you do Rios. You could either trade him or non-tender him. Where's the risk? Wait. We're waiting for Jordan Danks and Jared Mitchell.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) Kevin Goldstein. And it was one thread on a s*** Cards board thats not even populated. Its not a good deal for them, but you still cherry picked the posts that proves your point of hating KW and the Sox. And still you wont follow up on your statement to take a break from the Sox and this board. All talk no action. You love to be as miserable as possible. I'm going to wait until Sunday.
  19. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) So wait I missed something we got someone else from the Cards? A 55 year-old loogy is apparently on the way.
  20. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:56 PM) Cardinals are definitely the long-term losers here. Edwin and Dotel will help them this year, but they're both gone in two months. People are going to stop trading with AA. AA is making a mockery of this sport. I forgot about the Yunel Escobar for old ass Alex Gonzalez trade.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:54 PM) Cherry picking I see. How about the guys who call him lazy, or uncoachable, or a bust? Please, that was just one thread. How about people that get paid to cover this s***? Find one that doesn't believe the Cardinals got sodomized.
  22. Cardinals fans after learning of their return for Rasmus:
