QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) You mean like the Giants were last year? Did we just recently trade for that '10 pitching staff?
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 03:07 PM) But wouldn't you want to see what the market would bear for them individually? Sure. I'm just giving my opinion on this particular rumor. I don't even think it's legit to be honest. I've never been an Edwin Jackson fan. And Matt's stock has dropped some this year. And he's making upwards of $6 million starting next year. That's a lot for a guy that crapped his pants when he was asked to close.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) Meh. Anything could happen in the playoffs. We still did sweep that Boston team at Fenway. Of course it can. But short-sightedness year after year is why we're in this mess right now.
-
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:55 PM) This is a move you gotta make if it's real. I obviously want to win this year. But it's becoming more and more apparent to me that whoever wins this joke of a division will be nothing more than first round fodder for the Red Sox. If you can make a move that makes you better in '12, '13 and '14, even at the risk of coming up short this year, you do it.

I'd be THRILLED at adding a premium, young, cost-controlled talent like Rasmus at the cost of a pitching enigma that we're going to lose after this season anyway and a 35-year old reliever who will no longer be the bargain he's been starting next year. This team needs young talent that it can control multiple years like I need this six-pack of MGD I'm about to destroy.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) Boston's offense is simply amazing Against Pineda no less. Mike Trout with his first HR.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) Rasmus for Viciedo/Thornton/Jackson is far too much from our end. I'm calling BS. Why would they trade Rasmus for an impending FA and a 35 year old reliever?

It's obviously not April Fools day. I think Dayan is gone.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 10:41 AM) The White Sox haven't drafted well in recent years, so you have to go outside the organization if you want to win. Beckham and Sale were 2 guys anyone on Soxtalk could have drafted. Its about time the White Sox scouting department comes up with a 5th round gem. Had one. Traded him away because our GM got played by another.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 09:10 AM) You just bolstered my point. It is all about money. You have to spend money here to be successful. No, you make it sound as if the Red Sox are the only team that can devote more money to this cause. And even then, the science of scouting is so inexact that money only plays a certain role.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:57 AM) You are off of your rocker if you think that stuff isn't a direct result of money. No, I'm not. Don't pigeonhole the Red Sox because we're completely and totally inept in this department. You know who's spent the most money in the draft the last 4 years? The free-spending Pittsburgh Pirates.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:30 AM) which is much easier when you can spend more money than anyone else Again, that has nothing to do with scouting and player development. Deep pockets come into play when it comes to retaining and signing free agents.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 11:10 PM) It sure helps when you have their payroll. Nothing to do with their scouting and player development.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 06:11 PM) They're an incredible organization; they're probably the best team in baseball, I know they have they best offense and pretty much all of their most productive players this season are either homegrown or were acquired by trading away some of the better prospects in baseball: Gonzalez, Pedroia, Youkilis, Ellsbury, Beckett, Lester, Buccholz, Papelbon and Bard. To acquire Gonzalez and Beckett they traded way the #10, #35, #40 and #75 prospects in baseball. Ortiz, Wakefield, Aceves and Albers were all scrapheap pickups. They're the blueprint on how to run a year-in and year-out successful organization. Other than the Lackey signing, I can't think of a single bad move they've made in the last 7 or 8 years. Well, I guess you can throw Jenks in there. He's bad. Ha! Forgot about Dice K. They're not perfect, obviously. But they do so much right that it negates when they make a mistake.
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) yeah, we'll see. remember, asdrubal cabrera for eduardo perez. Jackson is a little over two months away from free agency. And he's league-average to begin with. Nobody is raping their farm for him.
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 04:54 PM) can't believe theo's making a run at Beltran. #bostonyankees Drew has been god awful. Add Beltran to that lineup and it's curtains. Must be nice to have a productive farm system.
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 03:40 PM) Rosenthal predicting the Sox will be sellers, CQ will be the most coveted RH hitter on the market and Jackson will fetch a prize, with no impact to the lineup since Viciedo is ready and we already have a 6 man rotation. In other words, we remain contenders but also bolster the minor ranks (I assume). Pence > CQ And no way in hell Jackson nets us a "prize."
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 03:05 PM) Unless he decides not to exercise it, yes, the $16 million option would vest if he was traded. Then that takes care of that. Aramis ain't goin' nowhere.
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) Aramis wants to stay in Chicago. Why not at 3B for the Sox? Has it been confirmed that if traded the 2012 option vests?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) Total class. He's had a nice season. The lesson is: If you are not the best player in the world, don't make an error or two that costs the Sox a game in April or you'll be hated on the rest of your Sox career no matter how you turn your season around. Even though the Sox have dropped so many games in so many variety of ways with just about every position player on the team a huge goat at some point. Incorrect. The lesson is that when you're the second worst everyday player at your position you're not going to garner much praise. Other than that, yeah, Juan appears to be a good guy.

Sox "uncharacteristically quiet" on trade front

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 08:41 AM) Coming from the guy that did nothing but complain about Carlos once he was selected to the ASG. "Look at his average!!" "Will he be hitting at .240 by the time the ASG is here?!?!" I'm starting to think greg has multiple personality disorder. This dude is crazy. -
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 11:17 PM) I love that this thread was started by the guy who said "I'm out" in the the 3rd The third? More like the first.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) Detroit sucks ass just as much as anyone else in this division. They have Verlander and Cabrera and 23 levels of suck. They could throw Verlander out there twice in the ALDS. That alone gives them a chance against anybody.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 10:54 PM) The one thing I am sure of is that Detroit will not win the division. And that would be kinda sad. Considering the other three teams in the running suck ass. It'll be like a bye week for the Yankees or Red Sox.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 11:01 PM) Of course. You aren't changing your expectations at all. And it is funny you mention Trout, because every time Mitchell comes up, you mention Trout. Yes, it sounds like that is exactly what you expect. Should I have said Bryce Harper? I didn't expect him to obliterate high A. I didn't expect him to be this bad, either.
