QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) Does Dunn's WAR go down by one since today's loss can be pinned on him? If so, he is indeed lower in WAR than Pierre now... Hard to say. Dunn is a DH and WAR accounts for defense. Will know tomorrow, I guess. But at least JP makes contact with the damn baseball. Meaning something flukish can always happen when you put the ball in play. Dunn. K and that's it.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) Setting up to be an interesting bottom of the 8th if Ozzie lets Dunn face a LHP. I'm kinda looking forward to K number 100 in less than 230 at bats. I've always said if you're going to be bad, at least be entertaining bad. With that said, I wouldn't mind a 475 FT bomb to RF.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) Every person in the universe would have laughed at you if you told them that Adam Dunn would be hitting .175 with 7 homers in late June. s***, if I woke up from a coma and saw Dunn's numbers, I'd literally say, "is this real life?" I've never seen anything like this. Yes, 1-year wonder for sure. Brady Anderson, Brett Boone, Preston Wilson. But this makes no sense. I'm discombobulated as a fan.

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:41 PM) This is so dumb. People are falling all over themselves to extrapolate 1/8th of a contract to make Dunn one of the biggest busts of all time. Or less than 1/2 of a season to say that Dunn is having the worst season ever for a DH or some other horses***. Look, he really sucks right now. Like really, really bad. But at least let him fail for the full season before evaluating his worth over an entire season. This is what people said after April. And after May. Wite tried to convince us change was coming (and he did a good job). But Dunn is still failing at a rate that boggles the human mind.

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) Are you talking about Dunn? Because if you are, how can you say this when the season isn't even over? He gets paid to swing the bat. Not defend. Not run. Not bunt. Swing the bat. On his current pace, and there's absolutely nothing other than past history to suggest anything will change, he's no doubt having one of the worst seasons for a full-time, 1 dimensional player in years.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) Assuming that a player must be the worst of the worst because you don't know how to look for data is either hyperbole, laziness, or naivete. He's been bad. Plain bad. People have been worse. Lots of people have been worse. Brandon Wood's epic .382 OPS last year was a pretty good example. He might well be one of the worst ever to put up these numbers while being paid this kind of money. That narrows the list down considerably. Adam Dunn will probably end up with at least 550+ PAs this year. You have to throw that caveat in there.

greg, will have to see how Dunn ultimately finishes. He's been 10 levels beyond embarrassing to this point. But if he keeps up this current pace, yes, I think it will go down as one of the worst all-around season's of the modern era. Even guys like Rafeal Belliard, the worst hitter I've ever seen, gave you above average defense.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) There are 139 different players who have put up a sub .600 OPS over a 400+ plate appearance season since 1980. Cesar Izturis put up a .545 OPS last year. And even he'll give you the glove. Adam Dunn is one of the top 5 worst players in baseball and he's making $14 million dollars a year.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) Yeah, that's pretty much hyperbole defined. Good luck. With a player who offers NO defensive value, I challenge you to find 10-15 players worse. To this point, anyway. And even if you somehow could, who cares. This has gone WAYYYYYYYY beyond a slump or a physical ailment or a switch of leagues, this dude, in 2011, is not a legitimate baseball player.
