2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
Jordan4life_2007 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I'd welcome Ellis with open arms. But for Noah? Who I'm not as big a fan of as most here. But an athletic center that can defend, grab double digits boards and not being a blackhole on offense (think Joel Anthony) is a pretty valuable commodity in today's landscape. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) You can pretty much discount any rumor involving the Bulls. They just don't make trades for stars. Jalen Rose says salutations. I hope green isn't required here. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) Damn fathom, 17-32? Fathom goes crazy whenever I bring up summer, 2009.

Michael Pineda good.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 01:01 PM) Not always. The drama threads get plenty of posts on their own. I say this all the time and all the time it's pretty much ignored. But some of you guys (not you specifically) really need to frequent other teams' message boards. There is a baseball world beyond Soxtalk. This board is NOTHING like the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Phillies or Cardinals' boards when they're going bad. Not even close. There's always going to be more discussion when the team is going bad. When the team is flourishing ('05 for example), there's nothing to complain or debate about for the most part. Everybody is happy. When the team is sucking ass, you're going to have two sets of posters: optimistic vs pessimistic. Therefore generating more discussion. It's rather simple. I don't think certain posters make it a point to post after a loss, yet go into witness protection when the team wins.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 04:19 PM) I see we've had a surge of ripping him and calling him fat and lazy posts. I can only speak for myself, but I don't discriminate. If I can tear JP to shreds. I can do the same to Dunn. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 04:06 PM) Any chance this bum retires out of shame? And walk away from $45 million? Doubtful. We're stuck with him. For better or worse. -
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) 2007 was when the Cubs fans got really started to get ramped up because it was coming up to the century mark of their WS drought and nobody wanted to see it go to triple digits. Everyone was sure that it was "their year". Then they got swept in the playoffs. 2008 was the century mark and again everyone was sure that it was "their year" Then they got swept in the playoffs. They've been sliding backwards ever since and Cubs fans are finally starting to realize that it's not all that lovable to be a loser. Yup. Especially 2008. I'm not gonna lie, I thought a WS birth was a foregone conclusion. They've gone backwards ever since and they're REALLY expensive and not so cuddly. Not to mention that cave of a ballpark is almost literally falling apart.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) If Kenny really had the power to make Viciedo play everyday then he would. My gosh, can people not read between the lines?? People or greg? lol. And I love greg by the way. He knows this.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) @MDGonzales Dunn, 7-for-37, 11 Ks vs. Doug Davis, sits. Ginger Kid 1, J4L 0 Wow, I had no idea he had been that horrific against Davis. So it looks like we've got a $14-15 million dollar platoon player on our hands? -

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 02:08 PM) @MDGonzales Mark Gonzales Sox lineup: Pierre - LF Morel - 3B Quentin - DH Konerko - 1B Ramirez - SS Rios - CF Pierzynski - C Lillibridge - RF Beckham - 2B Peavy - RHP I know Dunn is the equivalent to Paul Pfeiffer when it comes to hitting lefties. But Doug Davis? If you have no faith in him against Doug Davis then I don't know what to say. -
lol@SS2K5. Everybody knows greg is bipolar. He's like a box of chocolates.

I read the question too fast and thought you said who I didn't want back. So I chose Ozzie. Reading it again, I most definitely would want KW over Ozzie if I had to choose. But I want both gone.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 01:53 PM) How the **** are the White Sox getting their hands on Jeter? Tongue in cheek? You get the point. Bad players all around.
-
QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 01:46 PM) Who's running the team? Let Guillen be GM then and get him out of dugout The only thing worse than Ozzie the manager would be Ozzie the GM. Oh my goodness. Our starting OF would be Pierre, Erstad and Wise. Starting infield from third to first would be Cantu, Jeter, Young and Kotsay. Catcher would probably still be AJ.
-
Say what you will about KW and I've said plenty (mostly negative), but the guy is a great interview. He's 100% right when he says there's no player(s) out there they can realistically get that would be better than Rios, Dunn, Beckham, Thornton and I guess Pierre performing at a reasonably high level. They don't have the farm or the resources to go out and trade for a Jose Reyes or a Heath Bell. They need the current bums on this team to step up.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 01:10 PM) Do they eat their own like that? I don't know, I don't follow the Red Sox at all. They were the worst before '04 when they hadn't won s*** in eight and a half decades. Since then? Unbearable. -

I can't recall anybody ever criticizing Paul for being overweight or out of shape. The years he's sucked were mostly do to a combination of physical ailments beyond his control and the fact that he was once a mental midget. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 01:04 PM) Think about that for a second. He just called Chicago fans worse than New York fans. And Boston fans are worse than both. No doubt in my mind. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 12:53 PM) From when, from when we never watched the guy consistently? I sat 15 feet from the field a few games ago, the guy doesnt look physically out of shape at all, nor does it look like his swing is slow. It looks like he is either cheating on a pitch, or not recognizing it quick enough. Completely 100% mental. The Reds/Cubs play 20 times a year. I used to watch those games all the time. I would watch for Griffey (when he was healthy). In doing so I became a Dunn fan. He's definitely bigger. I'm not saying that's why he's not hitting. It's not like he was ever athletic or could run. Just saying the the extra beef can't be helping anything. He makes Thome look small. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) Come on, you think a few months of offseason would derail the most consistent power hitter in all of baseball? He doesnt look heavier than any other year, that is an extreme reach. I thought from the opening series in Cleveland that he looked a good 15-20 pounds heavier. That's no illusion. Many have alluded to this. I'm not saying he forgot how to hit over the offseason. But he definitely didn't spend the winter months in the gym. That much is obvious. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 11:11 AM) I think both are true but a center has a lot of value. Are there instances of a very injury prone player early in their career overcoming those and providing a stable 6 prime years? Not off the top of my head. And I know a center has a lot of value. I think Bynum's floor is around 15/10. If he didn't have to take such a backseat offensively to Kobe and Gasol, I think 20 PPG on elite efficiency would be a cinch. All I'm saying is the Lakers aren't playing for the future. There goal next year is to get back to the finals and win it. Nobody in this draft will help them accomplish that goal more so than Bynum. -
Who are your favourite non-Sox players?

QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 06:46 PM) Despite being an old timer now, I have always been a fan of Chipper. Dude can straight up hit. Besides him, Longoria, Tulo, Zimmerman (when he is healthy), HanRam and also used to really like Billy Wagner. Other than you know who, I've never seen a better closer in my time as a fan. Truly one of the most underrated pitchers ever, IMO. The only reason he's still not dominating now is because he chose to walk away. -

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:58 AM) Bynum's a walking injury at the ripe old age of 23. I can't imagine how poorly he's going to age. And he's a dickhead to boot. The Lakers should get rid of him. You don't need a true center to win in this league anymore. Not that I would deal him straight up for the 2, but I'd definitely deal him. True about his injury history. But the Lakers have probably a 1-2 year window in which to win another title while Kobe is still a top 5-ish player. He'll be 33 when next season starts and he's clearly not the player he was just a few years ago. No player they can take at #2 in this draft offers them more upside in the short-term than a healthy Bynum does. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:58 AM) I like the those as well (I'm assuming you're talking about this) I also like the black Oakland A's uniforms. The Royals used to have a black alternate as well, which I liked. The Sox wear the alternate black unis way too much for me to like them a lot. I do own a Quentin alt. jersey though. Yup, that one. The hot red ones are nice to look at as well. I actually like everything about that franchise. The logo. Beautiful ballpark. The works.
