  1. QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 12:16 PM) So does he sit Pierre or Quentin if he puts Dunn in the outfield? Obvious choice seems to be Pierre, but I doubt Ozzie even considers that a possibility. If CQ sits instead of Pierre than I'm done with this team. We'd be 15 games out if not for CQ. If Dunn plays the OF, which is going to be extremely entertaining, it'd better be in LF for that POS.
  2. Seems like benching JP and calling up DV has become an epidemic. http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/blog/roto_...=fantasy-wp3973 LMAO. He said Florence Henderson. I'm not drinking any beer right now. But I imagine I would've choked on it due to excessive laughter if I was. I didn't realize how staggering Viciedo's numbers have been since a relatively slow start. If you look at hitting and only hitting, there's only a few guys in the minors I'd take over him. And that's only the Bryce Harper's and Mike Trout's of the world.
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 11:41 AM) I see you've already picked him up in our saber league. Yup. And that kinda backfired. In yahoo he's listed at a LF. I assumed it'd be the same for ESPN. But they rightfully have him as a 2B. I already have Weeks. So I have nowhere to play him. Maybe he (Ackley) rakes and I can do something with him or Butler.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 11:30 AM) Can you say that he has put together good teams that have consistently been in contention for the playoffs? This is my criteria for a good GM. This of course is subjective. Instead of looking at each individual transaction (trade, FA signing etc.) can he build overall good teams? I really don't care overall how he builds the team as long as he can build a good team. does his success in getting Rameirez and possibly Viciedo (we still don't know how successful he will be in the majors), negate his "lack of winning trades." It's fun to discuss the individual transactions but that isn't the important overall outcome. Winning is. Except we're not winning. I don't look at 84 wins and no playoffs as "winning." Your ass is sitting at home in October just like the Pirates and Royals who may have won 65 games. It's all the same to me.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 11:32 AM) And yet the worst thing he's done, IMO, is air some dirty laundry about Jenks. It's one thing to criticize on the field performance, but off the field stuff needs to be kept quiet by the organization. Reminds me when KW let the entire world know that Jerry loaned Frank money on occasion.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) And Hanley has had a Dunn-esque year so far. I have him in multiple fantasy leagues. Believe me, I know. He's arguably the most 'talented' player in baseball. Dunn makes a tad bit of sense. New league. Definitely overweight. I wonder if Hanley is hurt.
  7. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) Morrison, drafted in the 22nd round, grrrrrr.... I don't want to hear it. It's quite obvious the only way to secure elite talent is to have a top 5 pick.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 11:10 AM) He's almost definitely not going to be back next year. I honestly think Ozzie will be their 2012 manager, and he'll do very well there. They can have him. And I'm sure he'll push for management to sign JP when he hits FA. Poor Marlins fans. All 27 of them.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 11:05 AM) Why's LoMo in hot water? He'd be an amazing addition to the team, but I just can't picture Florida doing it. If anything, they're going to start trading off veterans and build around Stanton and Morrison. They've got a disgusting young core in Stanton, Morrison, Sanchez, Hanley, JJ, Nolasco and Sanchez (Anibal). They still need a few more pieces. But they're fine.
  10. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 11:03 AM) Who's to say the Marlins wouldn't take that offer today? Morrison is in hot water with ownership, the team is in utter collapse, their manager is likely to be fired, and the organization loves and clearly wants Guillen. Not saying it's a sure thing, but it's not impossible. Morrison is hot in the water? Have I missed something? And the Marlins are not in utter collapse. They've been without arguably the best pitcher in baseball for a while now and he won't be back until mid-July at the earliest. Hanley just got back from the DL. That team is pretty good when all their components are in place. Manager likely to be fired? Has he been there a full year yet?
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 09:32 PM) Ackley up Wait just a minute...you mean a team boots a worthless, incompetent vet (Jack Wilson in this case) for a premium young talent that's done nothing but hit and hit and hit at AAA? Well I'll be god damned.
  12. The Chicago White Sox: catching the Twins at the wrong time every year since 2002.
  13. Great. So Morel's offensive ceiling is that of Jorge Cantu. That better be some damn good defense at 3B.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 03:24 PM) I think he's a mid .700's OPS 3b once he fully develops/adapts, and may cross .800 a couple times given the park he's playing in. With no power and no plate discipline? Unless he's going to smack 50 doubles a year, that's not happening.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 03:26 PM) The Tigers are 366-351 since the end of the 2006 World Series that they reached. Considering how "Bad" they've been? So unlike us, they've overachieved to a degree. Still doesn't make them good.
  16. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 03:21 PM) let me put a finer point on it: white sox record since '06: 451-430 (.511) white sox record vs central since '06 195-187 (.510) Yes, you're right, I certainly fail. That's a big difference from 50 games over. Considering how bad the Royals, Tigers (sans '06) and Indians (sans '07) have been, eight games over is nothing to get loud about.
  17. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) If by "below replacement level" you mean he provides positive "wins-above-replacement", then yes. 0.8 last year, and 0.8 this year. So now you throw fangraphs at me? lol. Fine, his defense has been alright. Offensively, he's Steve Sax.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) To this point, his contact rates have improved and his swing has gotten shorter. In otherwords, he is improving, especially over what we saw last year. Brent Morel has no offensive tools. That's something you can pinpoint right away.
  19. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 03:09 PM) The White Sox basically owned the Central from 2005-2008 (yes, even in 07). The last 2.3 years have been bad, but it seems as though people have pretty short memories. EDIT: 04-08. Roughly 50 games over. No, you fail. What is the record since '06? They obviously dominated in '05.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) Guys like Alexei Ramirez, Carlos Quentin, Brent Lillibridge, and Brent Morel don't count or something? Morel? Really? He's not that much different than Brian Anderson. Yeah, they'll go on an occasional singles binge. But ultimately they don't contribute much.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 03:07 PM) Charlotte. He has options. Fair enough. Ship him out. I don't discriminate. Gordon Beckham has been below replacement level for a year and a half now. I'm sick of picking on JP. I know he sucks. Now it's Gordon's turn.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) No offense, but that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. If you don't listen at work, do they fire you, or your boss? If Beckham isn't listening and making adjustments, he is the one who needs to go, because he is the one who isn't doing his job. What's the market for a mediocre 2B with no discernible tool?
  23. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) Considering that the White Sox play 37 of their next 41 games against teams not from Minnesota (with the 4 they do at home), and considering that they are .500 this season outside of those games despite playing like absolute dogs*** most of the time, and considering that they were 23 over against all other teams not named the Twins last season, and considering that many of those upcoming opponents are s*** teams, yeah, I'm sorry, but I'm not willing to abandon ship quite yet. Verlander, Scherzer, Miggy > The White Sox
  24. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 03:00 PM) We cant win 97 games-we have no games against the White Sox lmao
