QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) Juan Pierre would clear waivers because any team that claimed him would be on the hook for his full remaining contract for this season (something about $5 million for the next 3 months). The White Sox at least have the Dodgers helping pay for a portion of his salary this year. And it would be ludicrous to pay a bad baseball player $5 million for three months. The only thing worse than that would be paying a bad baseball player $5 million for one month.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 11:04 AM) we need a new sub forum for Pierre threads As a Juan Pierre fan, I'd be honored to moderate such a forum.

Both. Ozzie for obvious reasons and KW for even having to trade for this below replacement level player in the first place.

QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 08:54 AM) Jurjjens, Tommy Hanson, Jhoulys Chacin, Bumgarner, Latos. Proabably not better but damn there is some sick young pitching Only guy close on that list is Hanson. But that's a lot of premium young talent right there. The Rockies actually have another guy by the name of Juan Nicasio who was killin' it last night against the Padres. 9 Ks in 6 IP. Consistently poppin' his FB at 94-95 MPH to go along with a nasty lookin' slider. The Rockies have owned Latin America of late.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:40 AM) That he is willing to take one for the team? That fits his personality better than anything else. Well, that makes for a nice Disney movie and all, but in the real world that screams failure. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:27 AM) This is thing that drives me crazy about Soxtalk. One day Peavy is an asshole for pushing himself too hard. The very next week when he offers to do something to try to help the team, and put himself in a situation to save himself a little more, he gets taken apart. Taken apart? All that was being insinuated is that he possibly thinks he can't start anymore. He's healthy enough to throw 1 inning but not six? How else is one supposed to take that? -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:22 AM) Edwin Jackson did it. Is he a quitter too? So did Phil Humber. Edwin Jackson hasn't been on the DL 5 times since '08. Humber? Who cares about him. -

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:19 AM) jesus you guys are reading into this like its the f***ing Zapruder film. He realizes he put the team/org in a tough spot and is willing to do whatever he needs to help. Is that really unfathomable? And what happens when he gets hurt as a reliever? Do we make him the most expensive roogy in history? -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:15 AM) I don't think the's giving up on being a starter for the rest of his career. I think he just sees now that his body isn't 100% recovered from all the rehab, along with the realization that the 6th starter conundrum is due to his injury problems, and he just realizes that maybe he should be the one in the bullpen right now. There is no doubt in my mind that 2012 spring training will feature Jake Peavy as a starter. So basically another lost season from him. And why is 2012 supposed to be any different? He's going to all of a sudden get and stay healthy? Once is a fluke. Hell, twice could be just bad luck. But three, four, five times? And let's not forget that our rotation could look drastically different next season. Looks like we might have to overpay for Buehrle if we want to keep him. Jackson is as good as gone. Danks could be gone depending on where we're at come July 31st. We've already lost a full season of Chris Sale developing as a starter. So he probably won't be an option until 2013 at the earliest. And there's nothing else even close to big league ready in the minors. It's Floyd and Humber (the latter has all of a sudden become a necessity instead of a bonus) as our locks going into next season. Yikes. -

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:09 AM) I am probably the biggest conspiracy theorist on this board but even for me this seems to be a reach...but again maybe my optimism is clouding my view... How is it a reach? Why would a career starter just out of the blue offer to go to the 'pen if he didn't have at least some doubt about his future as a starter? -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 09:54 AM) Which is ridiculous if he came to this conclusion after a groin strain. It's not like he was pitching like s***. Other than that meltdown inning against Detroit, he had been pretty solid. So he can't be offering this up due to poor performance. Nothing else to to believe other than him coming to the conclusion that he probably can't physically do it as a starter anymore. So we officially have a Kerry Wood clone on our hands. A $17 million dollar one. The SP prognosis for this team going forward (specifically after this season) is frightening. -

Jordan4life_2007 replied to Bighurt52235's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sounds like Peavy is 'surrendering' to me more than anything. Like he knows his days of 30+ starts and 220 IP are over. Ahhh, I see Shack already alluded to this. -
The whole LeBron thing is kinda funny. It'd be a lot funnier if it weren't the Cubs of all teams (even their minor league teams) mocking someone for a lack of rings. 103 years and counting? I've lost track.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) He has to have the greatest publicist in the world He just annoys me now. We don't need your ass in the bullpen, jake. Just like we don't need you to try and be Leonardo Dicaprio and 'sacrifice' yourself and play hero when ultimately you're gonna end up on the DL again (has it been 4 times since we acquired him?), anyway. -

Watching the Cubs right now. Other than the immortal Clayton Kershaw, is their pitcher in the NL 25 and under better than Gallardo? You can't hit this dude when he's not walking guys.

Didn't know where to put this. Is it a bad thing that I would drink Coco's (Ice T's wife) urine if she asked me to?

.316/.451/.784 this season vs. Lefty pitching

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 09:11 PM) night off for viciedo or ...? He's in Chicago finalizing his U.S citizenship. Don't worry. You're not the only one that got a little excited. But then the fact that Ozzie Guillen is still our manager slapped us all back into reality.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 03:17 PM) Oh no that means the Heat will extend their championship run past this year through 2020 because they will be unstoppable and have already won it all.............oh wait That would be a considerable upgrade, though. His length, athleticism and shot-blocking ability would make an already good defensive team more lethal. He'd be basically their Tyson Chandler. But I can't see him taking such a drastic paycut, even if the MLE remains at $5.8 million. -
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 08:40 PM) Dexter Carter with 6 scoreless innings. His best start yet. He's slowly getting back to form. He is? He'd given up 9 ERs in his last 13 1/3 IP with mediocre peripherals across the board going into tonight. At 24 and still in low A, I'd say he's just filler.

Tigers officially in first. Verlander, along with Weaver, are the top two AL CY candidates to this point.

Jose Reyes finna get paid.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) Ronald Guzman Yes, I've heard of him. Damn, they're about to sign him? KC ain't playin' around. They have a plan and they're sticking with it.
