  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 03:56 AM) WTF are you drinking? I'm not drinking (yet) anything. Dirk is a better shooter, penetrator, comparable rebounder, better defender. Definitely quicker and more athletic. Bird was a better passer. That's about it. Larry Bird was obviously a legend during his time and it's unfathomable to rank a modern player over a legend, regardless of it's warranted or not by some, but these playoffs were enough for me.
  2. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 05:28 PM) Three guys whose comebacks this year I don't completely trust. Berkman, Ortiz, Helton. Did these guys all find the fountain of youth, or something else? My cynicism won't subside until Olympic-style blood testing is in the CBA. I just don't buy the idea that things have been cleaned up completely. A more punitive environment has just made fewer players willing to take the risks of staying ahead of the testing. So what about Konerko? Career seasons at the age of 34 and now 35? Do we have to suspect he's on something?
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 12:40 AM) Wow, I just realized how silly this is. 10 better than Dirk off the top of my head: Michael Jordan Wilt Chamberlain Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Magic Johnson Oscar Robertson Larry Bird Bill Russell Kobe Bryant Shaquille O'Neal Hakeem Olajuwon Dirk > Bird And I think Bill Russell is a little overrated. I agree the rest are above Dirk (Kobe and Oscar barely).
  4. QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 11:35 PM) J4L, watch these three videos and then tell me that the Blazers' collapse in game 7 was on Pippen. The whole team choked. I never said Pippen was the entire reason they lost. But Pippen was the the 6-time champ. Pippen was the one that had seen every possible scenario one could see. That was his chance to fully escape Jordan's shadow. And he failed. Think MJ or Kobe takes 3 shots in a do or die game 7? I think not. Jordan would've said, "f*** you Rasheed," give me the god damn basketball and get out of the way. Scottie never had that mentality. He was a follower. Not a leader.
  5. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 11:33 PM) I wasn't saying Pippen was on the same tier as Lebron, but he wasn't just some garden variety 20 PPG wing player either. The only forwards I've seen with his kind of solid all-around game are Lebron and pre-injury Grant Hill (oh, and I guess McGrady if you consider him a forward, though nowhere near the defense). Fair enough. I guess I was just blasting Pippen for his idiotic comments a couple weeks ago. I'd have much more respect for him if he would just come out and say he was jealous of MJ. I don't think anybody would blame him. Though I really do think he was a tad overrated.
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 11:19 PM) No LeBron led team has won a damn thing either. And Pippen had the Bulls close 2 years in a row with BJ Armstrong and Toni Kukoc as his 2nd leading scorers. And WTF, Kobe "serving" a 34 year old Pippen. Impressive. 2 years in a row? They lost in the second round in both '94 and '95. And I don't recall anybody serving up a 34-year old MJ. Though MJ is worlds better than Pippen. Still, the Blazers were up 16 points in game 7 against the Lakers in the 4th quarter. Pippen's line that quarter: 0/3 from the field and 1 point. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 11:20 PM) 1) I mis-remembered, thought that they played them in the conference finals. I editted my previous post a bit. 2) I never said they would beat Houston, just that they would have had a legit shot at a ring. 3) The Pacers weren't exactly a juggernaut, they won 47 games and went 1-4 against the Bulls in the regular season. Reggie Miller was the only reason they challenged the Knicks, and Pippen likely would have guarded him down the stretch. New York was easily the toughest team in the East, I don't really care that Atlanta won 57 games too. 4) As I editted in, that wasn't exactly a stellar supporting cast either. The starting lineup was BJ Armstrong, Pete Myers, Scottie, Horace Grant, and the four headed monster of mediocre centers. I know they weren't a juggernaut. But they peaked at the right time. They were an offense rebound away from at least tying that game 7 and sending it into OT. And LeBron did more in Cleveland with arguably a worst cast in '07 and '09.
  7. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 11:07 PM) A Pippen-led Bulls' team with Horace Grant as the #2 scorer was a bad Hue Hollins call away from getting a shot against Hakeem and his merry band of role players for the title. So we're going to pretend the Pacers, who took out the Shaq/Penny Magic in a sweep, the #1 seed in Atlanta in 6 games and pushed the Knicks to 7 games (lost 94-90 in game 7) didn't exist? There is absolutely no guarantee the Bulls would've beaten the Pacers, let alone the Rockets, without HC advantage.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 10:58 PM) Sigh... Go watch some film, then come back and apologize. This is as dumb as Scottie claiming Lebron is as good as MJ. LeBron is twice the player Pippen was. Get over your hate for LeBron (even I admit he's overrated now. But still great), and your love for Pippen (you're obviously a Bulls fan) and realize no Pippen-led team would've won a damn thing. I still can't get over a 21-year old Kobe serving Scottie's ass in 2000.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 10:53 PM) This might be the dumbest post I've read in this thread. Seriously And that's fine. Pippen was ten times the choke artist LeBron is. He just had Michael. Simple as that.
  10. How stupid does Scottie Pippen feel right about now? That dumbass still to this day doesn't realize that MJ made him what he was. Scottie - MJ= Reggie Lewis or something.
  11. QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 10:25 PM) No. First of all, its hard to be a bandwagon fan before any games have been played.. secondly as I already explained during last summer, I am not a huge NBA fan and have really never had a favorite team outside of following the Bulls when they had Jordan due to my mom and being from Chicago and then following Orlando when they had Shaq and Penny.. I already liked LeBron and Wade as individual players as it is.. GMAB, tru. You jumped on the Heat bandwagon like Oprah jumped on those corn dogs during one of her recent shows. You had that avatar of the Heat 'celebration' the day after the Decision. You never talked about or made it known you were a Heat fan before that.
  12. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 10:16 PM) Without even looking, you're forgetting Julius Erving, George Gervin and Bernard King. s***, if you're going down to guys like Andrei f***ing Kirilenko I'm sure there are some other SF's. I'll give you Julius. Though his best years were clearly in the ABA. Gervin and King couldn't spell defense, let alone play any. Alex English is another 1-way SF that comes to mind. There weren't many defensive studs that played SF in the 80's.
  13. I now realize how weak the eastern conference really is. The Mavs totally exposed the Heat as frauds.
  14. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 10:04 PM) Baseball isn't the game of athleticism that basketball is, but yeah, Babe Ruth would be worse in today's game. Indeed. I think Bird could be an 18-20 PPG scorer. But it would be almost laughable to see guys like LeBron, Marion, Granger, Josh Smith, Gerald Wallace, AK47, etc, draped all over him. Back in the 80's you had Dominique and I guess Worthy. That was it at the SF position.
  15. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 09:58 PM) I must have missed the part where Dirk was flying up and down the floor and dominating in transition. Could you imagine Bird trying to get his shot off against the athletic freaks of nature we have in the league today? I'm not saying he would suck. But he wouldn't be as dominant as he was during the 80's. That's for certain.
  16. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 09:54 PM) The first part, possibly. The rest, no. You need more than one ring to be top-10, and Larry Bird was basically Dirk with much better passing. Larry Bird was slow and had about as much athleticism as Robin Williams. He did his thing during his time. Dirk is great in any time. Dirk > Bird
  17. LeBron sucks. His Cavs teams of '09 and '10 are the only team in history to fnish with the best record in the league consecutive years and not even get to the finals, let alone win the title. He gets Wade AND Bosh and STILL can't win it. I'm done pimpin' LeBron. This is Dirk's league.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 09:46 PM) LMAO at all of you that said Miami would not only beat Dallas in this series but had already locked up the next 3 or 4 titles. And I have no problem being wrong and looking like an idiot. This is sports. We have no control over what happens. We throw s*** out there independent of if we end up right or wrong. I don't bet on this s***. This is a great day and I'm happy as one can be for a team I don't give a s*** about.
  19. I've seen enough. Dirk is the best player in the league and now a top 10 great. Coldest white boy I've ever seen. Larry Bird would be Kyle Korver in today's league.
  20. I remember when Jason Kidd couldn't hit water if he was in a boat. He's really developed his 3-point shot.
  21. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 08:47 PM) Dirk is going to have to come up big if Dallas wants to win this game. He's been doing just that all postseason. I believe he's averaging close to 11 PPG in the 4th quarter in these playoffs. No matter how off he is during a majority of the game, he rises up in the 4th.
  22. I've totally underestimated this Mavs team. Jason Terry has quicky become one of my favorite players. Please let them end this tonight.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) He cant play an everyday SS in the majors. However, I dont understand why nobody is clamoring for him to replace Gordo at 2B. He's clearly a better hitter than Beckham at this point. I think it's MUCH more imperative to let Gordon play everyday, despite his struggles, and see if he can live up to the expectations everybody had for him going into 2010. JP sucks and has no future (at least he better not) with this organization past this season. But our manager is a f***ing idiot. So will definitely see another 350-400 at bats from JP before all is said and done.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 12:10 AM) Why would JR order you to cut the payroll of a team that will win the division? Are we really making these threads now? He did say "if." And I like your confidence.
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 11:59 PM) and the Royals lost...again I know. But this year is not about wins and losses for them. It's about their young studs getting their feet wet and developing. Hosmer has been a beast so far. Moustakas is already off to a good start.
