Great Sports Quotes
Jordan4life_2007 replied to The Ginger Kid's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Kyle just shutdown this thread. -
QUOTE (LayelBurton @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 10:43 AM) Wes Whisler re-assigned to Charlotte after 5.0IP scoreless over his last 5 apperances for Kannapolis as a left-handed specialist. I wasn't even an alcoholic when this guy was drafted. That's how long it's been. At what point can he be dismissed as AAAA fodder? He's still brought up around these parts fairly regularly.
-
This is sorta random...But what the hell has happened to Nick Markakis? This dude had 5-tool (at the very least 4-tool) talent oozing from the seams. He's gone downhill ever since he signed that extension back in '09.
-
All I know is I'm glad Michael Bourn is a Boras client. I could totally see Ozzie being fixated on him after Juan (hopefully) goes.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 09:32 AM) That has been my biggest complaint about his game. The taking plays off of on the defensive end. He is an elite defender when he wants to be. There are other times where he is Ben Gordon on D. C'mon now. That's just wrong.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 09:24 AM) Can the guy make it to the majors first? He'll be here next year. But you can already see the writing on the wall. This kid is going to be hated. And I love it.
-
This is why I don't mess with Ozzie post-game interviews. I made out about seven words in that 2:29 clusterf***.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) Solid catch. Can she play LF?

The best baseball writer in the business, Jeff Passan, strikes again. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AtYC...n_mullet_060711 Talks about how baseball needs a villain post Barry Bonds. And Bryce Harper seems like a perfect fit for the part.

Sox Draft OF Keenyn Walker with #47

Didn't Devon White kick our asses in the '93 ALCS? -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 12:22 AM) I think Carlos and Danks are in the same boat contractually. So 2012 is the last year we own both of them. Yes, you are right. That's perfect. Assuming we don't go rebuild. In which case I wouldn't have a problem trading him for the right package (his value is pretty high again). It's a shame we're wasting such terrific seasons from PK/CQ and Lillibridge coming out of nowhere. I said coming into the year that the three guys on this team I had absolutely no worries about were Danks, Thornton and Dunn. And the guys I worried about were PK, CQ and I just assumed Humber and Lilly would just take up space. Like a reverse jinx or something.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 12:15 AM) I saw you had lost post in this thread and knew you were going to mention Dunn in reference to Ciolli. Thanks for being predictable. Sorry. When I think Ks, I think Dunn. It's just natural.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 12:15 AM) Carlos Quentin had a sizable lead in the majors in extra base hits heading into tonight's game with 35. The next closest in either league is Adrian Gonzalez at 32. No one with 30 extra base hits had one in the AL tonight, which means that Quentin's 37 extra base hits are now 5 more than anybody else in the AL. His Iso after tonight's game is .325. That is second in the majors to Bautista's .372. Given 600 plate appearances, Quentin is on pace to hit 47 doubles, 40 homers, and himself 31 times. Given 650, those numbers increase to 51 doubles, 43 homers, and 33 HBP. Carlos good at baseball. How many more arb years does he have remaining? I love what Carlos has done this year. But I'm still hesitant to commit to him long-term. I'd like to see a similar year in 2012 before I'd be comfortable with that.
-
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 12:11 AM) I'm starting to think he's a reliever. How about Ciolli tonight? 0-6, 5 K. Yikes Adam Dunn is contagious. He needs to be quarantined.

Happy belated Though I only missed by 7 minutes.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 11:44 PM) Yes but so have Dunn, Rios. AJ and Morel have not been stellar. You can't bat everybody ninth. I already said I want Dayan to play left. He can't butcher it much worse than Juan, but I suspect he will be just a tad worse than Juan out there. You act as if we're discriminating. There's a 270 reply thread detailing the disaster that has been Alex Rios on the front page. And Dunn has been taking it up the ass like Jodie Foster did in The Accused. But at least Dunn is fun bad. JP is just bad.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 11:27 PM) Let's just say that Morel and Pierre collided during a flyball to LF. He botched it before they collided.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:54 PM) I would rather have our current heart of the line-up be Wil Cordero, D'Angelo Jimenez, Julio Ramirez, Albert Belle and Magneto. This is not aimed at greg, but I get the feeling a lot of fans would rather have a bunch of likeable nice guys that played super, duper hard yet finished in third place every year than a group of talented assholes that ran roughshod over their sport (see Heat, Miami).
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 11:24 PM) I'd like to know as well. I'm going to assume this happened in the 10th inning. He botched what was a makeable high flyball that led to a leadoff 2B and eventually turned into the game-winning run.

Official 2011 MLB Draft - Day 3
Jordan4life_2007 replied to Jordan4life_2007's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:27 PM) This article gives the White Sox honorable mention for teams that might have had a good draft. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...rtnerId=rss_mlb Kind of surprised. Anyone see any draft review yet? Not surprising to see the Rays, Red Sox and Jays up there. And the Nationals easily had a better draft that the Padres. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:05 PM) Iggy for; Hedo, Ellis, or Kaman. I feel like Bulls can top two of those Wait, what? What's going on?

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:31 PM) Since KW has come to the Sox, we're one of the highest spending teams on Latin American players..... This can't be right.
