QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:28 PM) Time for a Pierre extension! Then it will be time for J4L to jump on the Royals or Nationals bandwagon. -

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:22 PM) Yea. He is far too involved with the draft decisions. He constantly hammers home that college players are the best choice as they are safer, and closer to the majors. Gonzalez reiterated this tripe in his pre-draft piece. And yet no matter how many years go by and this philosophy fails miserably, nothing changes. But we can hand out extensions to Teahen and $4 million bucks for a month of Manny. -
Just when you thought this man (little girl, actually) couldn't play baseball any worse. He somehow, someway, defies the law of what level a typical major leaguer should play at, at the minimum. Less than 4 months left until this clown is gone. I've already started the countdown.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:11 PM) Please not Granderson for Danks. Im sorry but the Sox havent exactly had great success with low contact power guys. Right now Id kill to have a NL style team that could get on base a lot and make things happen. Unfortunately what makes the Sox most like a NL line up is the fact they are trotting out a guy who hits like a pitcher. NL style in our park and the AL? -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:11 PM) Jacob Petricka, Erik Johnson! Was our draft pathetic or what? I'll obviously concede I haven't seen any of these guys play live. But looking at the scouting reports, some of the videos (especially youtube) and where other better prospects were taken, it's pretty demoralizing. -

QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:08 PM) Again I say...Danks for Granderson? Yankees aren't trading Granderson. And if we do trade Danks it will be for some young pitching. Or at least it better be. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:06 PM) Juan Pierre could bat .175 with a .205 OBP kicking the ball into the crowd every 3rd play and Ozzie would trot him out to LF because he is slappy and he fills his Marlins wantabee offense. This is a man who wanted Owens over Quentin. Only injury took that mistake away. NL baseball in the AL is not a winning formula. Don't forget that he's a professional and he comes ready to play every day. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:04 PM) Olivo blows no excuse to let that dumbass beat ya. Another bad lose. He'd be the best all-around catcher we've had since Charles Johnson. Then again that was only for like 2-3 months. -

This will be a very deflating loss. Especially after Q's second HR that appeared to give us all the momentum. Not to mention the Indians and Tigers losing. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 09:41 PM) Maybe one day we'll get a catcher that can throw someone out. Have we had one since Karko? -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 07:13 PM) Yeah, but don't they do one for each league? Oh, I have no idea.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 04:29 PM) Nah, no comeback player. There is about a 100% chance that award goes to Granderson or Beckett. Give me Lance Berkman. That's been easily the best signing of the year to this point.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 05:41 PM) I love Bill Simmons's writing style. Bill Simmons and Jeff Passan are the two best sports journalists on the planet.

Peavy to DL, Harrell back to Chicago

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 06:51 PM) Seriously, he's not really any good but you act like this organization is the Pirates or something. They are farm wise. Or a lot worse, actually. I get so sick of seeing "Harrell up" or "Marquez recalled" or "Torres to start." Let's not forget about the Dallas McPherson era. -

I bet you Lucas Harrell NEVER wants to leave this organization. No other team in baseball would call this hack up multiple times. -
Sox Draft OF Keenyn Walker with #47
Jordan4life_2007 replied to Eminor3rd's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) It's not a big deal, and I guarantee a good percentage of knowledgeable Sox fans who are familiar with the organization and how they've drafted recently said exactly the same thing. Also, I understand all the issues surrounding his involvement in the organization and how it's perceived by outsiders so let's not waste time discussing that. I believe what these last several years have shown is a strategy from our organization to take advantage of a market (black baseball multi-sport athletes that is neglected by professional scouts. They're hell bent on trying to develop their Carl Crawford (who was selected 52nd overall in 1999 btw). Honestly, I cannot even comment on this draft overall because I put no time into researching available players. I forced myself several years ago to assume every White Sox prospect is a bust until proven otherwise, and wouldn't you know, I began to feel less concerned with the pile of filth rotting in our system. Sure, it's embarrassing; but unlike several years ago when very few aside from myself were willing to criticize the minor league system, now everyone is aware of it's crappiness. Yup. I remember you calling the system out as far back as 2006. When we were about 18 seconds fresh off a World Series title. I didn't follow farms and prospects back then like I do now. And even if I had I was too drunk off the World Series kool-aid. I remember you saying that the putrid drafting for so many years straight would come back to bite us in the ass at some point. And you were undoubtedly right. -
Strained right groin for Jake Peavy

I get what Jake is trying to say. But whoever these "guys" are he's talking about aren't ending up on the DL every two weeks. -
QUOTE (Real @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 06:27 AM) Let me clarify I don't think we'll win the division because the Twins give this team fits every year, and even when they're horrible they come into our ballpark and f***ing no-hit us. Detroit is also better than we are, and has no problem beating this team this year (or last year, aren't we 1-11 against them in the last 12 games?) I watch every game, and I refuse to get excited when we beat King Felix, Pineida, Lester, or whatever other Ace we face that isn't in our division, because those wins mean little to nothing when you can't beat the Twins or Tigers, which we didn't do last year and aren't doing this year It wouldn't even surprise me if we leapfrog Cleveland because we've owned them so far this year, but Detroit looks better than them and looks better than us, and Minnesota is still lingering around and is enough of a threat to THIS team that even if they finish last in the Central, could still keep this team from winning the division because they beat our ass every year It will take a massive turn around for me to start believing this team can contend this year, and just looking at W/L isn't enough for me at this point of the year. It'll take a lot more games against our divisional opponents before I'm convinced this team can win the division I get you now. Fair enough. But I will say to be where we are with Dunn, Rios, Danks and Thornton all being bad to deplorable by itself is enough reason to be optimistic. And no, Scott Merkin did not hack into my account. I just can't help but get encouraged when we beat Pineda and Felix. But back to Mr. negative if we lose to Vargas.

QUOTE (Real @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 06:18 AM) I can't argue with anything in this post. But that's the thing, you're not really arguing with anything I've said either. We're mediocre and it looks like Cleveland is coming back to earth, which part of that should get me excited? Can you point it out, because I can't find it Do you not want to win the division? That's all I care about. Once the playoff starts all bets are off. Seems like you're saying that because it might not take 90 wins that it will mean less. Maybe I'm not understanding what you're saying.
-
QUOTE (Real @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 06:09 AM) Wait, personal attacks are allowed now? Ok. Cleveland started struggling over the last 14 games L, L, L, W, L, L, W, W, L, L, L, L, L, W = 4-10 We're 8-6, in those last 14 games which is 2 games above .500. 8-6, is a .571 Win%, coupled with what our record was at the start of those 14 games (22-27), would put us at 87-75 at the end of the year 87 wins = mediocre qwerty, gmafb child. I certainly don't think the White Sox are 'cured' and primed to take over the division. But the fact is they've played much better ball the last month and have made up considerable ground. And you talk about how Cleveland is struggling. How else are we supposed to make up ground on them if we're not playing them? lol. The Indians offense and bullpen are legit. No doubt in my mind. When Choo and Santana get going, and they will, they probably have the best offense in the division. But their rotation is beyond suspect. And they've been getting torpedoed of late. 87 wins is mediocre. But we're not in the al east. That could very well be just enough to win this division.

I have no idea who's left at this point. I'll follow anyway.

My second all-time favorite player is Barry Bonds. So I obviously don't have a problem with doucheiness (I know that's not a word) as long as you can play. This is overblown. It just goes to show you how much s*** has changed. This was an 18-year old in a single A game that was more than likely just messing around. But with MUCH more extensive media coverage and twitter and facebook and everything else we've got out there, the smallest things get overhyped. I've seen Pujols, Ramirez, Griffey and many other great players stand and admire their HRs. Look at f***ing Sammy Sosa. This is no big deal.
