  1. QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 11:37 AM) whats boring about taking a SP with 4 pitches who could move quickly through the system? Isn't that something we need with ?'s like Buehrle, Peavy, Danks, Jackson, and Humber in our current rotation? Right-handed pitchers who throw in the low 90's without either a plus breaking or off-speed pitch=boring.
  2. QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 11:33 AM) But will that change our grade with J4L?? Most definitely. From big fat F to a C.
  3. Is MLB.COM's feed f***ing up for anybody else? Blue Jays took Norris? That's outstanding value.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 11:22 AM) Kevin Goldstein just tweeted he might be a reliever at the major league level. And that's fine in the second round. Especially when they've already nabbed Bauer and Bradley.
  5. QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) lol, a couple picks into round 2 and you're giving people A+ grades on drafts that wont even matter for 3 years To this point, yes. And let's not act like I'm the only human being on the planet that gives out draft grades right away. Happens in every sport. I'm not waiting until 2015.
  6. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 11:14 AM) Bauer, Bradley, and Meo? Amazing. Nationals, Pirates and D-backs all with A+.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 11:11 AM) Please sign Bell, Pittsburgh! They've spent more on the draft than anybody the last 3 years. They must feel pretty confident they can get something done.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 10:41 AM) Why have said players fallen? Has to be signability, right? No doubt the Rays clean house today anyways. Knowing what they have in place, they reach with their own second rounder (I imagine they have it still) and take high upside players they can sign with their other 28 picks. Yes
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) So Bryce Harper's kind of arrogant One, he sure watched that HR for long enough and then the kiss was ridiculous Um, what did he do wrong?
  10. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 09:04 AM) We're really going to complain about trading away a guy 8 years ago, who just NOW may be figuring it out, when the guy we acquired for him helped us win a WS title 2 years later? Wow. I was being mostly facetious. I don't care about Michael Morse. I do care that we drafted a Keenyn Walker.
  11. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 07:54 AM) He won't be anything like Bautista, not even half of him. I'd put money on that. I don't think he will, either. But I do think he's a legit 30 HR guy.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 07:33 AM) Is that the same Mike Morse the Sox traded away years ago? Wow. Took him a while to figure it out, he's already 29, although I guess he had injury troubles. Well at least that trade directly helped win a WS, so can't complain too much. Yup. He's built like a locomotive. He's been raking of late. And like with Bautista, he showed flashes the previous year.
  13. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 07:30 AM) When does day two get going? Noon ET.

The Sox first three picks will be 80, 110 and 141. Here's a list of the top remaining talent courtesy of Baseball America: No. 15. Josh Bell, of No. 16. Daniel Norris, lhp No. 28. Austin Hedges, c No. 30 Andrew Susac, c No. 31 Dillon Howard, rhp No. 32 Matt Purke, lhp No. 39 Jorge Lopez, rhp No. 41 Josh Osich, lhp No. 42 Alex Dickerson, of No. 46 Dillon Maples, rhp No. 50 Tony Zych, rhp I'd also like to add Anthony Meo (P), Jason Esposito (3B/SS), Derek Fisher (OF) and Ricky Oropesa (3B/1B) to the list.
  15. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 12:42 AM) Paulie was an awful signing and Crawford was one of the best ever. Whoa there. I was talking his knowledge about prospects and the minor leagues in general.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 12:45 AM) I've thought Konerko was gone a lot before too, and he's turned it around just fine. In fact, this season sort of reminds me a lot of Konerko's 2003 season. There is absolutely something wrong with Dunn right now. Whether that it is mechanical, physical, mental, or even emotional, I'm hoping he is doing everything in his power to keep the team up to date on it to try and get it fixed. When I say "gone" I don't mean for the rest of his career. I mean pretty much for this year. Like Mark McGwire in 1991. It might just be one of those flukish years that one simply can't explain.
  17. QUOTE (Sophist @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 12:24 AM) Keenyn Walker? Don't remind us. And welcome to the board.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 12:26 AM) If Adam Dunn does this for the entire season - hits about .180 and 15 homers and a Pierre-ian OPS - then I get worried, because that is about 800 plate appearances dating back to roughly midseason of 2010 that Dunn has been a bad hitter. I mention that I have 6400 plate appearances worth of data to base these assumptions on. I have about 10,000 PAs worth of data that says Frank Thomas is going to be an MVP candidate next year. At some point, a detrimental change in talent can have its effect on a player. I haven't seen anything to indicate that there has been one with Dunn, whereas it is quite clear that it has happened with a now 43 year old Frank Thomas. Your optimism is to be commended. But I've never seen Dunn this lost. He's decimating his career K% and that's saying A LOT. I think he might be gone at this point.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 12:21 AM) It sounds like Sox will be taking a ton of pitchers in the next few rounds. I have a feeling we were going to take Goodwin if he was still around. Wait a minute, the Nationals took Goodwin. I was thinking Bell. lol. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 12:22 AM) I bet the Brewers front office is thrilled to get two college pitchers who are considered close to being major league ready. It's exactly what that organization needed, so I give them the best first round of anyone. Yes, they did exactly what they had to do. I personally think the Nationals had the best day 1.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 11:44 PM) I expect the Sox to draft about 8 pitchers tomorrow. I don't really care either way for the Walker pick. To be quite blunt, there's a lot to both like and hate about his game. Point blank, I have no problem with the Sox injecting pure raw talent into the system and that's exactly what this pick is. I would say it deserves a grade of a C+/B-. I would have preferred they draft someone who may hit for a bit of power if they were going to go with a hitter, but I would have ultimately hoped that they had brought in a pitcher. Whatever. We've already got raw, speedy, boom or bust clones in Mitchell and Thompson. Why do we need another?
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 10:58 PM) All lefties, including Dunn, should copy the stance/stroke of KC's Hosmer. Wow, the rookie can hit the ball. He has perfect form. I fully expect Hosmer to win the ROY. Only Pineda has a shot.
