  1. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 08:44 PM) The best way to handle it is expect a signable college arm, and be elated if it's something else! What do you think about Henry Owens?
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) I didn't say they were drafting for need. I was ridiculing the idea that the pick was done for "Need". Of course they drafted the guys they had as BPA. Fine. BPA. Whatever. No need to go Carlos Zambrano.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 08:37 PM) Yeah, they're weak at the catching position. The solution is to draft a catcher out of high school...collect underpants...wait 5-6 years...and profit! Drafting High Schoolers based on filling a need? Are you kidding? What's the problem? He's a first round talent. At worse early supplemental. And that's only because of his asking price. Somebody was going to take him. If Boston had only one pick this round and had taken him instead of Barnes then that's one thing.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 08:34 PM) Wow, Boston got top 20-30 talent at pick 26? I can't believe that. What a steal! They filled a need with their second pick. Yes, I'd say they're doing well.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 08:30 PM) Read the post above you. Boston's clearly cleaning up. He's a consensus top 20-30 talent by most.
  6. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 08:29 PM) High School catchers in the first round...not a good idea. It's worth the risk in their case. Tek is a mummy and they have nothing in the system at C.
  7. Ross makes up for the bad pick earlier, IMO. Here we go with Boston again.
  8. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 08:14 PM) C'mon Josh Bell to Tampa! I'm guessing either him or Swihart (they desperately need some catching). Edit: They still could go with either or even both before this round is over.
  9. Been jerkin' off over in the draft thread. How's Danksy lookin'? And how many times has Dunn struck out?
  10. Wong? Wow. I don't like him at all. He's got the physique of a 12 year old.
  11. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 08:01 PM) Beede is going to be expensive. I like him though. Nice pick. Yeah, I've heard in other drafts he's a top 10 pick. But Toronto will spend.
  12. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 07:50 PM) But everything else you mentioned is pretty much spot on. If Jim Bowden was still the GM I'd say Washington is f***ed either way. I admit I go overboard with young prospects. My obsession started in '08 when I subscribed to BA online. And it's no coincidence that around that time or a year later I started killing the Sox for their ineptitude. But even if I wasn't that into them (prospects) I'd feel the same about Washington.
  13. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) Assuming Washington gets sellouts and has wheelbarrows full of cash money, they still have to make the correct free agent signings. That is not a given. This is true.
  14. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 07:46 PM) Bell or Swihart I'd guess. Maybe Hedges. Edit: Barnes. Forgot he was on the board. They will have the chance to take the big money elite talent later. lol. We both edited at the same time.
  15. Now watch the Red Sox piss me off. I'm thinking Bell or maybe Goodwin. Matt Barnes if they go pitching.
  16. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 07:37 PM) My point is that you can have great players and still have a bad team. The Cubs have had great players, sucked, and still sold out games. Having sell outs doesn't lead to you having a great team. They have? They've had good players. Strasburg showed me enough last year to come to the conclusion that IF he's healthy he's extraterrestrial. Harper? C'mon now. I know it's easy to say no prospect is a lock. But he's as close to a lock as it gets. And the sell-out will enable them to supplement the superstar talent.
  17. Damn, excellent pick by the Angels. I know the Red Sox wanted him.
  18. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 07:34 PM) They're pretty broke... I know. It's still funny to me.
