  1. Mayo says Pirates are for sure taking Cole. Gonna be really interesting to see what the Mariners do. Most think they'll take Rendon. If they don't, that could throw the entire first half of the first round off.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 10:59 AM) So what round are the Sox taking Ozney in? And is he even a legit prospect at all? I know a couple years ago he was mentioned as someone worth paying attention to. JPN will love this.
  3. Adam's K% is now at an astounding 42.4%. It just keeps rising. Couple weeks ago it was around 39.5%. Then it shot up over 41.0%. Now it's over 42.0%. I know Mark Reynolds % was around that when he set the K record. But he hit 44 HRs that year. Big difference. Edit: Nevermind. Reynolds set the record last year.
  4. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 10:55 AM) How many rounds are they doing today? 1st round and supplemental round.
  5. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 10:47 AM) Well the good news is that we are just fans of the game and none of this really matters anyway. What's wrong with a guy trying to earn his money again? At least we gave up nothing for him. I don't call almost $50 million nothing.
  6. Man, Adam Dunn better remember how to hit a baseball again and SOON. This draft is f***ing stacked.
  7. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 10:43 AM) I know who he is, but really have paid much attention to his football vs. baseball debate. Where is he at in that regard? I know it's Nebraska for football as a QB. Seems like he's leaning towards football. But that could be just posturing. I saw some vid (I know. Can't take too much from a 45 second scouting vid), but the athleticism is legit. And every draft site I've been too says he has 5 legitimate tools.
  8. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 10:37 AM) Or have 12 picks in the first 89. The Rays have already won this draft before it even starts. As well has Arizona.
  9. Bubba Starling is generating some serious helium. There's rumblings he could go as high as second, though I doubt it. I saw one mock that had him going to the Cubs. Let's hope not.
  10. I remember that Cintron HR like it was yesterday. No lead was safe against us that first half. Seemed like we were coming back from legitimate deficits 2-3 times a week. We were owning every top closer in baseball.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 09:33 AM) 11-0 To be fair, I initially thought they meant all-time. Not just since the 2-3-2 format. That did sound kinda unbelievable. This is much more passable.
  12. Happy b-day to a fine fella. :drink
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 09:28 AM) The big lecture you gave everyone in the NBA thread. I still don't get it. What does me criticizing our $16-17 million dollar a year pitcher for refusing to acknowledge when his body is betraying him, thus ending up on the DL again have to do with 85% of the board threatening to never watch the NBA again because the Heat are a good bet to win the championship?
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 09:21 AM) So this is you getting over it? The point of this post escapes me. Can you clarify?
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 08:41 AM) I never laughed at Mark Prior or Kerry Wood for trying to pitch through injury. In fact, I hope for good things for both of them. If there was anything I ever laughed at regarding that situation, it was the Cubs' constant refusal to admit to the injuries or the prognosis. I'm not sure why some general feeling you got from Soxtalk 5 years ago somehow equates to my opinion on this? Fine, forget about the Cubs portion of that last post. Let's address the other part. Again, at what point does one realize he's incapable of pitching through pain? You're not helping anybody by getting hurt every couple weeks. When you feel something, anything, let Herm, the medical staff or whatever know. He doesn't deserve extra credit for trying to be tough.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 08:25 AM) You have all the answers, J4L. It's really easy for you to bash everyone while you sit on your couch and drink 40 ouncers. Try to put yourself in his position...the guy was probably the best young pitcher in the NL for 3-4 years, and now he can hardly get out of bed every day without hurting himself. He's got Kenny who took a huge risk in acquiring him, as well as a lot of pressure from a fanbase in a major market, as well as his own expectations of himself. Again, I'm not saying he shouldn't do what Wite said...but I highly doubt he intended on giving up 6 freaking runs that inning and I highly doubt his intention was to hurt the team. I don't think anyone is happy with this situation, but I'm not going to take potshots at him for caring enough to make a f***ing effort. Meanwhile, you know everything, so by all means, continue on. First of all, what's wrong with 40's? They're one of the great creations by mankind. Secondly, how come it was OK for us to laugh at Wood and Prior ad nauseum when they were getting hurt over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over gain, yet we have a guy that continues to get hurt over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again but it's alright because at least he's going out there and trying to pitch through pain when it's been decidedly proven that he's incapable of pitching through pain? Makes no sense and is pretty hypocritical.
  17. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 06:23 AM) It was kind of humorous how Miami couldn't get a call finally. Than depressing that Dallas couldn't take advantage of it. Can Jason Terry play worse right now? Really blows that Caron Butler got hurt back in January. As good as Dallas is, they really don't have that legitimate #2 scoring option. A guy that you can't count on to get 16-20 PPG consistently. One night it's Marion. Another night it's Terry. Another night it's Barrea. It obviously hasn't bothered them to this point. But they've never seen a defense and superstar tandem like what Miami possesses.
  18. One of my favorite events of the year. Sucks we don't have a first round pick. So what's the scoop for what the Sox have planned at #47? Anything new? I'll be surfing the web all day for info.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 08:12 AM) What do you mean the guy that puts the team before himself? What do you suppose he was trying to do? How was trying to pitch through this putting himself before the team? The guy is a competitve sob and he's certainly more frustrated and baffled by this run of injuries as we are. He's just trying to do what he loves to do and the only thing he knows how to do. He's not pitching for a contract. He could easily be Mike Hampton and just go down with every injury because his money is all guaranteed. But he tries to battle through it because he doesn't know what else to do. I'm not saying he did the smartest thing he possibly could have, but to say he is putting himself before the team is the biggest bunch of bs I've heard lately. And I am not some huge JFP supporter, but it's hard to fault the guy for trying to pitch through this when he could just as easily say "this team is under .500, they have 5 other starters, my paycheck is coming every other week no matter what..." So at what point does he realize that his body is not working in conjunction with his Conan the Mighty Barbarian act? Do we need 5 more DL trips between now and when his contract is mercifully up for him to understand this?
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 08:08 AM) Basically, we must mock for everything. Makes us feel like big men ourselves! /mocking. Yeah, that was my master plan. My self esteem went up about 50 notches in the last 1:37.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 08:05 AM) So, he pitches through it and we insult him for costing us a game, he goes on the DL and we insult him for not being a warrior. No, I was mocking those that act like Peavy is some kinda inspirational hero because he pitches in pain. Yet if you blow on him wrong he gets hurt.
  22. But he's a warrior! http://www.suntimes.com/sports/5793841-574...jake-peavy.html
  23. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 11:27 PM) I'm excited to see Pineda for the first time. Dude is a stud. Either way we're in for a treat. Of course we want to win. But if we get shutdown, at least it will be entertaining. This guy is scary good. I've seen him twice and my mouth was like wide open half the time. Why can't we find guys like this? We've got the most popular latino manager/coach in pro sports and what's come out of LA for us since he's been here?
  24. So I was right as far as the 2-3-2 format goes. I have no clue about before that.
  25. QUOTE (Anderson Cooper's Quivering @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 10:01 PM) You forgot Erstad, Griffey, Kotsay, unThome, MacDougal, Teahen, the 2007 bullpen experiment, the list goes on and on.... As fathom always says, thank the devil they took advantage of their chance in '05. Looking back now, it's hard to believe a team under this management/coaching staff pulled off a World Series title.
