Nice AB Rios. What a waste of a roster spot. -
A Matt Joyce type would be nice.

Slumps and Adam Dunn: they've met before

QUOTE (Real @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 05:48 PM) reasons without factual basis are excuses Didn't you read Wite's initial post? He gave us facts. Plenty of them. No human being alive will deny that Dunn has been anything but bad so far. Wite showed us a consistent history of Dunn struggling over a sustained period of time only to get his numbers in the end. Now he's not hitting 40 HRs. More than likely not even 35. But there's still reason to believe he can turn it around and be a major factor for this team the rest of the way. -
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 05:02 PM) I dont think its the fact a team people dont like might win the title as much as it was how that team was assembled. Everything from the decision to all three players seemingly stringing along the Bulls last summer. Not to mention that a lot of people think the Heat have gotten favorable treatment from the refs during the playoffs, which obviously the NBA has a track record with. And besides the Decision and the short-bus celebration the next day, what exactly did the Heat do wrong? String along the Bulls? They could only choose one spot. I'm sure Knicks fans felt they were strung along. Clippers fans. Nets fans. Especially Cavs fans. As far as favorable treatment goes, that's been going on since I was in pampers. Superstars get calls. LeBron would be getting the same treatment as a Bulls if he were one. And I'm sure not many on the board would be complaining.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 04:39 PM) LOL at you telling people to get over it. Serious LOL\. Yes, get over the fact that LeBron did not sign with the Bulls last summer. That's where 99% of the hate comes from. He went to Miami. Let it go.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 04:47 PM) did morel fail to walk in minors, too? 87 BB in 1316 PAs in the minors. So it was an issue even there. Just not this bad.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 04:37 PM) If he develops into the potential defensive 3B he is on an arc to be on, I don't care about his offense. On a team centered around pitching, his D, along with Alexei's, is huge. An offensive blackhole at an offensive position such as 3B won't suffice in the AL. Regardless of his defense. .250 should be his floor. Not his ceiling. And a single walk in 130 PAs is just unacceptable. Is that a fluke? Is he going to be a player incapable of working walks at an acceptable rate? That's a big issue. I know he's a rook. It's only been a couple months. I just don't buy into the thinking that as long as he's a standout defender that his offense is moot. Even Crede was a 20 HR threat (topped out at 30 before the back went dead) with all of his offensive deficiencies.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 04:26 PM) With the glove he has, and the pitching staff we have, any power is a bonus. As long as he can put .250 on the board with the occasional pop, we are set at 3B for a decade. Those are some pretty tame offensive expectations. And personally, I'm not looking forward to 10 years of Brent Morel manning 3B. But he's clearly the best option for now.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) It's the culmination of a decade of the league going downhill. Maybe it's only babyish because you don't in agree with it? I'm not giving up the sport I've followed for 20 years because a team I don't like wins a title. And it's not that people don't like them. People just can't get over last summer. I've been over it.

Spectacular choke by Papelbon. Red Sox were up 7-3 going into the 9th and the A's have tied it up at 7. He's bad now. Wonder what dumbass organization is going to overpay for his services.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 08:52 AM) I have no problem drafting in the mid-sandwich-round and walking away with a Closer. Not with the starting pitching depth we have in the minors. We need legitimate SP prospects that in a absolute worst case scenario don't pan out and you have to relegate them to the bullpen.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 08:19 AM) He's a rookie. Settle down shooter. Everything I've ever heard of Brent Morel reminds me of Scott Brosius. I'd be OK with that. I know. I did kinda rear off into another dimension. This thread was obviously dedicated to Morel's divine glove work the last few weeks. I just don't want to be offensively-challenged at an offensive position. Independent of his defense.
-
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 07:06 AM) It says that he has three potentially plus pitches from the left side. That's more than many Major League starters can boast. Baseball America notes: Just hinting at him eventually ending up as a closer or a left-handed set-up man is enough to make me look the other way. And Standford must think he isn't starter material (though I can't clarify) This franchise needs starting pitching in the worst way. And this draft is insanely deep with SP. Damn shame we don't have a first round pick this year. If the system didn't suck so bad, we land Dunn at the break last year and don't lose that critical pick. But don't want to do the dead horse thing.
-
I don't think Morel is an every day 3B (he is on this team). His offensive skillset is rather unimpressive. You knew the power wouldn't be great. I thought he would be more of a line drive/doubles guy. 25 of his 32 hits have been singles. His LD% is a well below average 13% and he hits a ton of ground balls. Won't even get into the BB. My expectations are so low with this team when it comes to developing position players that I can't say I'm even disappointed. He can stick at third on this team as long as he keeps flashin' the leather. And his glove has been great of late. Hope that continues.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) s***, I only got 105. There were some really obvious ones I missed. I got like 1 pirates/padres filled in. Pirates and Padres fans couldn't get all those right. Phil Nevin? lol. I forgot he even existed.

This site is addicting. I've been on it for almost two hours. It's amazing how you can forget the simplest s*** when you're rushing. I've gotten one perfect score so far and it was an easy one. The roster of the '96 Bulls and coaches. 19/19. Way too easy, though.
