QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 09:51 PM) When the Pirates with a win tonight are over .500 and the Sox are not even .500 there is a huge problem with this team! Not really. The Pirates, aided by a hoard of s***ty seasons that's enabled them to collect some elite young talent, and a couple of under the radar moves (getting Charlie Morton in the McClouth trade, Tabata from the Yankees and signing Kevin Correia last winter), has brought them back to respectability. They're basically the Royals of the NL. They've made a commitment to scouting/drafting/signing/developing and they're FINALLY starting to reap some of the reward. Really doesn't make us look bad. We look bad enough on our own. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) The funny thing is that people probably think I hate Peavy. He's definitely not someone I dislike, and really hope he can be a big factor for the Sox the next year and a half. Never had a problem with Jake. I know the guy's not getting hurt on purpose. Soxtalk is making me hate him. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 09:33 PM) Wait, games in May are considered big games? Peavy playoff start in '05: 4.1 IP, 8 H, 8 ER, 2 HR, 3 BB, 16.62 ERA, 2.53 WHIP Peavy playoff start in '06: 5.1 IP, 11 H, 5 ER, 1 HR, 1 BB, 8.44 ERA, 2.25 WHIP Peavy game #163 vs the Rockies in '07: 6.1 IP, 10 H, 6 ER, 2 HR, 4 BB, 12.54 ERA, 2.27 WHIP But he battles. He inspires. He makes you believe you can be anything you want to be. Be like Mike? That's poppycock. I wanna be like Jake. If I can be like Jake. -

QUOTE (Real @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 09:31 PM) Uh what? Like that CG 1hitter this year against the team that was in first place? He was dominating the tigers before he got hurt in his last start too No f***ing way I compare him to Javy Vazquez Neither would I. Javy at least took the ball every 5th day. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 08:27 PM) Isn't Pierre leading the AL or entire majors in plate appearances so far? Between Kotsay last year and Juan Pierre this year....it's almost like the Twilight Zone how KW and JR can watch this and actually side with "Ozzie's gut" over winning pennants? He's 4th. I believe he leads the AL, though. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 07:58 PM) Don't tell J4L that Morse has two more homers Are you serious? Damn. Jose 2.0. Zimmerman is back. Harper will be there next year. Rendon the year after that. AND I've read they'll be a major player for Prince Fielder come winter. -

Gavin's 2009 ERA vs Twins: 5.27 Gavin's 2010 ERA vs Twins: 8.06 This shouldn't be all that surprising. Though this lineup is similar to the Jordan Danks-led Charlotte Knights. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 07:45 PM) You have to put 66% of that failure on Morel...he has to do better than that, I guess we can keep making excuses for him as a rookie, but that sucked. At least Morel swung the bat. JP with essentially a check bunt? -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:57 PM) Ooooo, late night baseball? In. I've got two King Cobras and a big can of Pringles. I'm ready.

Basically players with minimal to no talent catches Hawk's fancy. Just like our manager.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) If you're gonna tell me he wasn't hurt last year I'm gonna come back and hit you with that .749 OPS he put up for the season. I was just going by games played/missed. He began last season on the DL. Once he came back he started every game but one that rest of the season. So you're talking about a guy that effectively missed an entire season+. Not all that surprising that he didn't have a great year. But I think he's squashed all doubts on whether if he could regain his pre '09 form. He's gettin' paid.

Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen
Jordan4life_2007 replied to Bighurt52235's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:34 PM) The guy has had what, 4 or 5 injuries now in the past three seasons? It's time to look at this objectively. He's injury prone. Perhaps there's an underlying reason. Maybe he was a steroid guy, who knows? He suddenly started getting hurt in various ways. If this were Mark Prior, we'd all be thinking the same thing. And if he's such a "competitor" as everyone loves to preach, he'd be able to find a much greater competitive edge with PEDs. And hasn't he also lost velocity over the years? Yes -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) OK, but instead of muddying up the current subject to help your argument, let's remember that this has been the case since 2009. This isn't just a "moment" thing. Actually started in '08. He's been on the DL at least once every year since then. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) It's at least 2 injury plagued years. Well, more like a year and six weeks. '09 was basically wiped out. He played in 133 games last year (132 starts). From '05 through '08 he started 161, 153, 159 and 160 games.

QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) If someone signs him to a Carl Crawford like deal in a few years he'll top the horrible current contracts in baseball lists... You're thinking Prince Fielder. Though he's been a monster this year. I have no idea what it is with him and odd-numbered years.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) He sure found a good time to have a career year. Nobody would have said he'd deserve a Crawford-like deal this time last year. He's been easily the best player at his position to this point. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) I certainly wouldn't offer him that kind of money (without a heckuva insurance plan at least)...but I wouldn't put it past some GM's. It's hard to believe he's only 27. If he keeps this up all year (no reason he shouldn't, as talent has never been an issue), there most definitely will be a team(s) out there willing to sign a superstar SS in his prime to a similar deal. They won't care about one injury plagued year.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 08:00 AM) Even then, someone will pay him a decent amount. Jeff Passan thinks he'll get a Carl Crawford-like deal.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 02:55 PM) In other words...there's still a good number of reasons to look at that team and think they're "April Cleveland-ing" it right now. Problem with that comparison is that the Tigers have the two best starting pitchers in the division. -
He got strep throat from all the gagging he did on Jemile Weeks last weekend.

This has to be the most random thread bump in Soxtalk history. What would possess one to even search for this thread, let alone actually bump it?
