  1. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 09:34 AM) Says the man with a Juston Upton sig on a White Sox board. We never had Justin Upton.
  2. Meh, the PK interview was kinda boring. If you've heard one PK interview, you've heard them all. He didn't say anything of substance. I did like what Olney had to say. Basically called out KW and said he's every bit as responsible for this mess as Ozzie is.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 09:24 AM) Ogando's not the best example, because I think he is that talented. If it wasn't for his visa issues, he would have been here earlier, probably for another team. Would Duncan/Cooper have the same success elsewhere? Time would only tell, but I think they have done it with several players who other coaches couldn't fix, so I would assume they would. Word on Ogando. He would've been up long before last year if not for the human trafficking scandal he was involved in.
  4. Pretty much every team has played at least 81 games. So here we go: AL MVP: Adrian Gonzalez -.356/.410/.601/1.011 - 4.4 WAR (you could just as easily make a case for Miggy). AL CY: Justin Verlander - 10-3, 2.38 ERA, 2.83 FIP, 8.67 K/9, 3.5 WAR (Weaver is my runner-up). AL ROY: Michael Pineda - 7-5, 2.65 ERA, 3.08 FIP, 8.74 K/9, 2.2 WAR (there's nobody else close at the moment). AL MOY: Joe Maddon. Not much has to be said here. AL CPOY: Josh Beckett. Though a good case could be made for James Shields. NL MVP: Jose Reyes -.349/.393/.525/.918 - 5.1 WAR (Matt Kemp is my runner-up). NL CY: Roy Halladay. No numbers necessary. The guy is just really, really good at getting guys out. NL ROY: Craig Kimbrel - 23 saves, 2.63 ERA, 1.48 FIP, 14.27 K/9 (that's not a typo). He's been simply the best closer in baseball. If Brandon Beachy hadn't gotten hurt, he'd probably be my favorite. Damn I hate the Braves so very much. NL MOY: Bruce Bochy. Team continues to overachieve despite a less than impressive roster sans the rotation and a season-ending injury to their best player (Kirk Gibson is my runner-up). NL CPOY: Berkman, Lance. The end. Edit: Meant to put this in the DC. Feel free to move if necessary.
  5. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 08:18 AM) I gotta admit, J4L is my boy, but Mike... you got him good there. Yeah, I set myself up for that one.
  6. Due to female complications, I once again missed another game. Can't dissect at all. But I'll take the win. But at some point, we need to go on a 12 wins in 14 games streak. Hovering around .500 is making me ill.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 10:08 PM) Jose Reyes is putting up some crazy stats this year. He's a legitimate MVP candidate. I thought he was done as far as being an elite player. But god damn. He's f***ing cold. Outside of Votto and Kemp, who's more deserving ( I concede there's probably multiple players I'm forgetting about)? Throw Prince in there as well.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 05:18 PM) That's all I was asking. I certainly am not going to tell someone they're wrong if they say Duncan is the best, but I was just asking if there was an overwhelming consensus that I was unaware of. Your answer is no. He's clearly among the best at the very worst. Well if you put a gun to my head, I'd say Duncan was the best. But I'm not going to sit here and act like I know about all 30 teams' pitching coaches. I couldn't name half of them. I'll just say that I have no problem with Don Cooper. He's probably the one guy from the coaching staff I want to see stick around.
  9. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 04:03 PM) I don't know if this has been posted, but Josh Fields had his contract purchased by the Yomiuri Giants. The Rockies released him in order for it to happen. JPN, please change your sig. Be a pal. I get sick to my stomach every time I see it.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 05:01 PM) Phil Humber, Gavin Floyd, Matt Thornton, Jose Contreras, Esteban Loaiza isn't a good comeback, just from the example I'm most familiar with? It is. Then I can throw Westbrook, Carpenter (he wasn't s*** before he was a Cardinal), Weaver ('06 playoffs say hello), Franklin (though that didn't last), Jeff Suppan and Jason Marquis. That's just off the top of my head. I don't think there's a consensus, as we're talking pitching coaches here. But nobody sounds silly if they declare Duncan the best.
  11. And I now see Ubaldo has been pretty damn good this month. So I'm even more discouraged. Mark needs to be good this night.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 04:49 PM) Is it generally accepted that Duncan is the best coach in the league? I'm not saying he's not excellent, I'm asking if there's consensus that he's the clear and away #1. Kyle Lohse. The end. They've gotten two above league-average seasons (including this year) and another right around league-average season out of him in three of the last four years. And he sucks. I say this with supreme confidence.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 04:36 PM) Ubaldo had been U-Bad-O this season, score some runs you White Sox! Pierre - LF Morel - 3B Quentin - RF Konerko - 1B Ramirez - SS Pierzynski - C Rios - CF Beckham - 2B Buehrle - LHP The White Sox offense is the perfect antidote for a struggling pitcher. I am glad Ozzie isn't playing Dunn. He'd have no chance against Ubaldo. That'd be an automatic 4 whiffs.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 04:36 PM) God dammit, I wish they would just fire Ozzie already. Underachieving team-Check PLayers Loafing-Check Dumb comments in public and on the internet-check Reluctance to accept top prospect into lineup-Check Children who bash GM in the media-check What else needs to happen? And you're considered an "optimist." I've had it with Ozzie since last year. The whole Kotsay thing was my boiling point. But let me say this because it's just automatically required. "Mark Kotsay is not the reason the White Sox didn't win the central last year." /Ranger
  15. I still don't get how JM had a GF to begin with. No women should ever be stalked or physically harmed. But she deserves at least a fine for even datin' that tool.
  16. Anybody know what Onley said about KW?
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) In 2006, especially in the 2nd half, I thought Anderson was acceptable, and I'll go to my grave saying we win that division if he'd played every day after June 1. Morel's hitting .282 since May 1. The OPS is still putrid so don't ask, but when you also take into account the league averages...the league average OPS on the season is .684. This is another position where the numbers have gone way, way down from the steroid era. Chris Johnson from Houston is hitting .244 on the season and has put up a .685 OPS...he's basically the average 3b right now with the bat. Since May 1, Brent's OPS would be the 22nd best in the league for what teams are getting out of 3b. It's not good, but the league's production isn't good this year either. If I go to May 7, Brent's OPS is .673. Since May 7, Brent morel has almost been a league-average 3b. And this is why I've come to realize that BA is overrated. And Ozzie has had to play mix and match with Morel all year. I don't believe for a second he could hit .282 over a sustained period playing every day.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) Yeah, we can say he's doing better the last month or so, but the overall body of work offensively from him has been miserable. It would have been acceptable on a team with 6 or 7 other hitters that are performing well, but with other guys struggling, he's just another black hole in this lineup. You can cherry-pick stats to death, as bucket of suck loves to do. But a week or two of hitting .250 is not going to mask the fact you've been terrible. And you make a good point. It seems like I'm picking on Morel. Ideally, you'd love to not have to worry about his production and just hope he can play a stellar 3B. At least for this year. But with so many proven regulars falling flat on their faces, Morel's crap season is magnified. Very similar to what happened with Anderson. Pods and Uribe were crap most of '06 and it made Anderson's struggles look much worse.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) I like Morel and his potential. He actually tries to hit line drives and hit the ball to right field when it's called for. I don't, however, think you could say he's having a very productive season though. People that follow on base percentage religiously can't be impressed with his one walk in about 200 ABs. Morel's production has been horrid. Even for a rookie. The defense has been fine. But no sub-.600 OPS is acceptable at any position outside of maybe catcher, and that's only if he's Yadier Molina-esque behind the plate. If Morel is acceptable, than '06 Brian Anderson was acceptable. And he most definitely wasn't acceptable.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) I think a lot of people were turning on Paulie because they "didn't think he could match" last year's performance. Paulie is our best hitter period. I wasn't turning on him. But history did suggest a regression was in order. And it'll probably come at some point, be it next year or the year after that. But as for this year? Yeah, Paulie owns the regression police. And it's a shame that such a great year is being wasted because of guys like Dunn, Rios, Pierre and Beckham. If those 4 were producing at an even league-average rate, we'd probably be in first place.
  21. Wow, going through some of this thread there were more than just a few people who either didn't like the signing or weren't crazy about it. I remember pure jubilation. And lol at the Kotsay or Dunn post.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) Eh, that was weaker than I remembered. He said he liked Dunn as the DH, just not the dollars. I know for a fact he said Dunn was an "NL only" hitter. But I think that was last July when we were trying to trade for him.
  23. Randy did to us what those jurors did to Blagojevich.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 10:45 AM) Gross...he's going to end up being a top 50 prospect Hudson/Gio both dominated last night as well. But I digress. For now, anyway.
  25. QUOTE (Real @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) We have a piece for Montero from the Yankees, his name is John Danks. Danks for Montero + Gardner ? Works for me.
